Nice one. Is the option to convert part of your stipend to cover the shortfall of the international student tuition fees available at all uni's or it would have to be specified even in the proposal advertised.

      Thank you.
I am not sure if that option is available at all UK Universities, because I am aware of funded PhD programmes that specify that the prospective international student would need to cover the difference between home (UK) and international student fees (and if the PhD funding comes with a stipend, that is paid monthly, not as a lump sum. So I presume in that case the individual may not be able to use the stipend to cover the difference).
In my own university, the fully funded PhD advertisements specify that (most of) the PhD funding is used to cover the international student fees. Hence, we don’t need to worry about paying the difference in tuition; however the remaining part of the total yearly funding is given as a monthly stipend.
You would need to check the specific details for each funded programme.
      Hope that helps.
      Thanks for watching.

Just a follow-up question, did Andrew travel with his family or solo? Would love to know how being with a family on a family stipend is like.

      Thanks for watching.
As far as I know, when he commenced his PhD he was single/came alone.
Additionally, I’m not aware about the concept of a ‘family stipend’.
