Most facilities take multiple decades to build and if we keep thinking in the short term of what can we get in the next 5 years we will fail to make any real progress as a country. Roman leaders would start construction plans that took longer than their own lifetime to complete. So if it takes 20 years so what, that's just how long it takes to build subs.

Building or buying nuclear submarines is a complete waste of money for Australia. There's no point in aligning ourselves with the USA, whose influence is waning. China is actually our bigger trade partner, and it's hypocritical to prepare for a fight with them while doing business and selling off our assets, farms, and industries to them. The politicians involved in this deal are corrupt and will no doubt receive hefty commissions. The promise of 20,000 jobs is just a smokescreen, as those jobs will only be temporary. Australian citizens will ultimately suffer through higher interest rates, a shortage of housing, and inflation. The $368 billion could be better used for scientific research, education, innovation, building sustainable jobs and the development of our country. If China were to attack Australia, a few submarines would not be enough to protect us. The government, banks, and big corporations are essentially a mafia group. They may appear friendly, but they are ultimately enemies of the people. The American intention is crystal clear - they want to sell weapons. With friends like the USA, who needs enemies? As an Australian citizen, I am completely against this initiative.
