  • The Vietnamese coffee maker is now my favorite device for daily use. It brews a full cup of smooth rich coffee in about 5 minutes or less.
You can make coffee without electricity as long as you can boil water.

I sometimes like my coffee a little watery so I can drink it slowly for a good amount of time.
If it’s too strong, my heart races.
To make legit Vietnamese coffee, cut the water in half and double the amount of grounds, and brew into a 1/4 Cup or so of sweetened condensed milk, and then make sure you have a way to expend the huge amount of energy you'll be supplying your body with. Don't give yourself a heart attack, k?

What would you recommend between medium grind and medium-fine grind? Sorry I'm really new to this

Hi! I’ve found that Kirkland/Costco ground coffee, Gevalia, and IKEA coffees brew really well in the phin filter. Give some of your favorite coffees a try in the phin ^_^ Good luck!

Can I fill the water 2-3 times using the same coffee ground inside this dripper to get large amount of coffee or I need to refill the coffee ground?

Hello. Re-brewing spent coffee grounds will result in a sour, watery brew. I recommend to always use fresh grounds for best results. ^_^ Enjoy!

What grind do you recommend with this?

Hello! I recommend between medium and fine. If it’s too coarse, water goes right through and the brew is weak. Too fine and it brews too slowly and gets muddy and cold. I recently bought a variable coffee grinder so that I can re-grind my favorite coffees to work their best in the phin, and I’m loving it! Good luck, and happy holidays!

After the filter press on top of the coffee is dropped, do you press it lightly?

Hello, I do not press it. The best coffee is the very first drops from the brew, so I’m happy to leave the last few drops up there ~_^ Enjoy your java!

I have a phin filter, and only use it for Vietnamese ground coffee.. but I want to broaden my horizons, and use it with some South American blends.. however I do not know if the phin filter “should” be used only with Vietnamese coffee..
I know the sentiment seems pretentious and dumb.. however, I enjoy that’s it’s traditional.. but technically speaking, is the phin filter fine to use for any ground coffee, and more importantly, will it brew the same results as other more conventional filtering methods?

Hi! I’ve noticed that the grind is extremely important. Too fine and it takes too long to brew that it gets cold. Too coarse and it brews too quickly and weakly. There is a sweet spot or Goldilocks spot when it comes to grind, somewhere between medium and medium-fine.
I’ve found that every brand of coffee I’ve enjoyed brewed in various ways generally tastes better via phin, I just prefer it. I love not only the resulting flavor of the brew, but the whole ritual and process of making it. I also love that it requires less grounds than my French press to get the same strength, and I love not having to buy nor waste paper filters.
Have fun experimenting with different coffees and grinds ^_* cheers!

Did you use ground coffee or instant coffee ?

    • @gemfoxfoodandcraft
      @gemfoxfoodandcraft  Před 5 lety +9

Hi. I use ground coffee beans. Instant coffee does not require a brewing device, it only needs hot water. That’s why it’s called instant. Good luck!
