Rearward facing radar is one of my favorite design aspects. Feels ahead of it's time in that regard.
Not ahead of its time as you might think. Late variants of the P51 Mustang also had this.

I love the name, Skyknight. Always reminds me of the "sky knights" from that old cartoon, Storm Hawks. One of the early things which got me into loving aviation even more.

I've actually seen one of these in a small scrapyard tucked away behind one of the hangars in the Air National Guard part of the MSP airport.
They've got a whole bunch of old planes back there in varying states of disrepair, everything from P-51s to P-80s to F-101s, about 3/4s of an F-102, one of these, and even an F-16

Damn. I lived in Minnesota for a year and had no idea I was within snatching distance of an F3D Skyknight
The F3D is a great base bomber in air sim. At 7.0, you don't face too many jets that can outperform it. The radar is perfect for identifying slow and heavy enemy prop bombers. Pair that with the Skyknight's speed/acceleration and the reach of the 20mm cannons, and you have a winning solution for smiting bombers. I'm glad I gave this jet a second chance! It now occupies a permanent position in my early US jet lineup.
And due to the current ju 288 spam, there'll be no shortage of bombers to annihilate
I been using it to smack bombers too. That radar is great and the cannons rock.
since SIM BR rooms are from 6.7 to 7.7 the better option to bomb is to choose B-57A(7.7BR), better payload 6x1000lbs instead of 2x2000lbs. and much faster, as it goes 925kmh easly.
This was my first ever jet in WT. I ground it out as an F2P and was so happy when I got it. Tons of good memories in this thing. Glad to see it still holds up in the current meta :)

Easily my favorite jet in the game. And I have F-16s... this takes the cake. Lethal as hell, fast enough, maneuverable enough, bomby enough.
The repaircosts in sim ground are horrible though.

@@emmata98 I'm well aware of the differences, however it does not disregard the fact that there are plenty of planes in RB that have such bad repair costs that is hard to make positive income

This has been one of my favorite early US jets, once you get the bombs it's a great grinder with plenty of ammo. Fantastic support craft in Air RB.
A great review of one of my favorite American jets to fly in War Thunder. The F3D-1 has surprisingly excellent maneuverability and performance- even when carrying the maximum bombload. Though of course the bombs do rather severely affect the acceleration and climb rate until you drop them. I personally find the guns to be excellent and I actually prefer this sort of Autocannon to the more prolific Vulcan gatling cannons that most of the top tier American jets carry. The ammo supply is immense and allows you to farm huge numbers of AI ground targets in Air RB
Finally a plane of my liking that is actually good, im cursed in this game cuz my fav planes are far from meta, the tornado, j7w2, the swede pushers, the me262 to name a few
J21s used to be very meta until they got a massive performance nerf. Rest in peace my lovely weird aircraft

It's not fantastic. The missiles are just aim-9b's so they're only ever useful for ignorant or extremely slow targets, and therefor just doesn't have flight performance to speak of against other 8.3's. if you want a decent missile "fighter" in the US tree, consider the A-4B. Alternatively the fj-4b but the fury suffers just like the f3h.
I remember flying this before the new carriers, almost impossible to get off the old decks, and if you took any bombs, you'd take a swim. Now speaking as a 'historian', I'm disappointed we didn't get the tail radar.

I like flying the F3 in simulator when the BR is set right, I have a wonderful greenhouse canopy with good visibility, I have full authority over the skies do to the extremely exceptional radar, the bombs can destroy a full base in one hit and a full naval vessel, only thing I would add on this is the inclusion of people who happen to use knots over KM/H, and if you would like to review some of these aircraft again but also touch on simulatior battles and how it’s used there, which I’m sure many people would love to help you with
its funny to think that Tiny Tim is probably about few hundred kilograms heavier than Tim himself despite being Tiny
One of my old favorites with my old account, played it like i play the A6 intruder nowadays. And it was actually a decent fighter.
This is actually perfect timing as I'm working on unlocking this next.
Ahhhh...my first jet, and easily my favorite. It's a small tomcat, and I hope they add the F3D-2M at some point so I CAN have a tomcat without the steaming mess that is top tier.

ive been flying the f3d1 exclusively this month, its such a fun lil strike aircraft and its a fun one to learn beginner jets imo
They should reaaaaally add the beamriding sparrow version. Only 1 aircraft with beam riders in game currently, such a shame.

5:30 bombed a plane, amazing
I knew what was coming as soon as he didn't pull up after the base bomb....you have to stay low so it brings them to the bomb. also 1.5 secs fuse delay is what I use generally
This was probably the first jet I actually enjoyed.
It just felt right.

the m3s got their explosive filler nerfed a while ago. At the moment using ground target belts does the best damage

The radar is a the redeeming factor of the F3D so you have to play with it

Hey Tim, I have a consideration that may be a good to implement into your vehicle previews. Could you add a section where you talk about and demonstrate how to destroy said vehicle? Like explain how to kill whatever vehicle it is if you have to face it in missions.
I do understand that you put a lot of time into making these and adding this would just be more work. So it’s ok if you don’t want to
You forgot to mention on the landing section that because of where the engines are you can reliably belly land this thing at pretty high speeds. It allows you to greatly reduce down time and you don't need to slow down on your approach to the airfield
I didn't forget, I never mention or advocate for belly landings. Having flown small aircraft IRL, belly landings make me cringe regardless of context. ;-)

I am planning to revisit this jet do to I'm only a few K RP from a US BB, and I think maybe a fast jet has a chance to get through some of the top ships' AA. + some naval maps only has carriers as AF.
This is my shit right here!! I absolutely love this jet and use it more then any other jets in the whole game for air and grb, regardless it’s not the best for either match types compared to the others at that 7.0 br .
And the odd part is I have absolutely clue why I love it so much 😂 wish they would add some aim-9b’s cause they used them back in the day, pretty sure it’ had like the first jet on jet kill while using a air 2 air missile or something also. ( may be off on that one tho )😂

I recently got this thing, I didn't typically care for the air strike tree for USA but I do love this thing even though it's fat and slow lol idk why..
I feel like if you take the time to practice aiming unguided rockets like the tiny tims, you can get pretty good with shooting them. But in your credit, war thunder is supposed to be fun and practicing shooting unguided rockets definitely is not.

I've recently unlocked the Tunguska and i've been having trouble with radars, missile guidance and how to play overall, I hope you see this because i haven't really seen any other youtubers do in depth detailed videos on that subject. I think you are overlooking a very powerful option for CAS with the F3D-1. It can be used extremely well as a dive bomber.
