    This is the best selling duffel bag, but lacks the quick detach shoulder straps, external pockets, and details that other bags we reviewed have.

    Best travel bag I've ever used, bar none. Incredibly practical and just looks so good. Never had an issue with the straps either and I've flown well over 10 times with it.

    Quick disconnects will disconnect under a lot of weight and viewed as a weak link by many. As an owner, I'm glad this bag doesn't have them. It could work on the XS, S, & M but I would not want that on the L, XL, or XXL

    I have 3 of these bags and use them travelling around to remote communities in the Canadian Artic. They have survived airlines, bush planes, ski-doos, Argos, quads and just about every other form of transport. I happen to agree with most of the other posters here that they DO NOT need quick detach straps. If you aren't able to unthread the straps easily then practice a couple of times. For the record I have never been asked to remove them for flight. I have the small in red and black, medium and the large in orange for ease of spotting in luggage carousels.

    I've flown with mine 20-30 times. No airline has ever asked me to remove the shoulder straps. American, United, Frontier, Spirit, plus some regional airlines have all be fine with them in place.
    I always use the velcro on the handles to make sure they are together, and on top of the shoulder straps before I check it. That helps them not flop around as much. But not one airline employee has ever commented on the shoulder straps.

    Mine is 12 years old, use it for everyhing all the time. Shows some wear, still great. Mine is in yellow color, nice, easy to spot, the light color also makes it easy to spot stuff stored inside it. The yellow is refered to as "Summit Gold". Lovley name.

    Reviewer needs to do a bit a research on the product. This duffel has been around for atleast 30 years, most likely longer. I've used mine for the past 20 and it's the only one that's been able to stand up to all the abuse from use. Fancier, more costly bags haven't or can't match this piece's durability. I still use mine a few times a month for my cycling trips. A disadvantage on the stiff material used as the reviewer mentioned is just the opposite according to my experience. This thing felt off the bus, flights of stairs, dragged thru rocky and muddy terrains, and is still good as the day I bought it. One of my fancier duffel bags broke when a valet dropped it from my SUV to the floor. This thing is a workhorse and there is a reason why it has seen minimal changes thru out the years. From my experience, adding a quick release buckle would introduce a weak link to the system. This bag is perfect for what is it intended for; hold and protect your stuff in rugged conditions. It has a lifetime warranty and as much as I would like to get another one, I think mine will probably last a lifetime judging from its current condition. There is a reason why it's the best seller in your lineup.

    Might need to do an updated review video based on the negative feedback I read on the US North Face website. Seems that they have updated the design - shortened the handles, lost the end pockets and isn't as waterproof or well built as the earlier versions. Damn shame. No one on youtube is reporting this, though - seems like most channels are too interested in selling them.

    Thank you for the review. I check my TNF duffels (M, L, XXL) on a regular basis (12x a year) and never am I asked to take off the backpack straps. I tighten everything and tie the hanging straps and its always all good. If an airline would make it an issue I would pull out tape and tape the straps down (everyone has duct tape in their gear pack...). I carry the medium size on as a carry one when it is not full as well. These bags are insanely durable and I feel good about giving them to porters and airlines. I also love the way the opening is so wide that I can flip the top back and search through my bag after a lazy packing job. I never liked the zippers because they are not easy...but yeah this is part of what makes the bag seriously durable.

  • @trailkrum6750
    @trailkrum6750 Před 7 lety +24

    I've travelled extensively with mine in the passed 5 yrs, beating the hell out of it in the process. Except for a couple of scuff marks, it's as good as new! Many of your "complaints" are quite ridiculous... If you want to buy luggage with lushly padded handles, more organizational pockets and the likes, this duffle just ain't for you. And regarding upgrading to quick-release buckles, sure, why not? if you want them to be less durable... There's a reason why it has not been updated in 10 yrs and why all the competition is playing catch up. (Read Y Chouinard's Let My People Go Surfing to understand a bit more about product design philosophies). Btw, this particular duffel has one of the widest openings, much better the Patagonia's (which I also own).

      I agree, the complaints displayed in the video are not important. Base camp duffel is a great and minimalistic design that will last a long time. The daisy webbing and compression straps on each side are great and useful in many ways. Most duffel bags don't have them or they're simply way worse to use. I have been using my medium sized tnf duffel a lot in demanding environments for a little over one year and I have nothing to complaint about.

    These are bomb proof. I have the small and Medium and they have lasted years. Zips are sturdy as hell, straps are solid. Not mentioned in the review are the useful straps and webbing on the side that I use for skis/poles, and clipping stuff to. They are more than "water resistant", I wouldn't want to submerge it but it will easily handle the worst of downpours. I don't agree with the quick release straps (it sounds like something that would fail). When checking the bag in I simply tighten the straps (with a single pull) and close the hand straps around them. I have never once been asked to remove them. I would never consider another bag. TBH this is a bit of a crappy review.

    unlike some of these other butthurt northface fanboys on the comments section here.. i can agree with this reviewer that some improvements can be made. i have 2 of these bags and just my thoughts...
    1) thicker padding on the backpack straps. they just feel as substantial as a couple pieces of cardboard. i also agree about the quick release.
    2) more storage options. seriously would anybody complain about an extra 1 or 2 zipper pockets?
    3) shoulder strap option would be nice. i know i can create my own makeshift one which i do time to time. but it would be nice to have its own proper loopholes and strap for something like that.
    overall.. the bag is bare bones no frills in a cute design and colors.
