  • In this video Dean will explain why you need to try to do the knowledge quickly and how its possible to do in 18 months. Many changes are expected to the knowledge in the near future and now is one of the best times to start.

    Good morning Mr Warrington! To start with, same as I say with all the other excellent video's you've produced, this is a great help! As usual, you're straight to the point with no nonsense, and secondly, it gives us a clear path, almost like a syllabus to follow! Personally that's something I feel I need as felt overwhelmed and confused a few times! Slowly plodding through book 1 at the moment, trying to wrap a few things up before I feel I can do proper full time! But this has inspired me that but more! Thanks Dean! Truly appreciate you're videos and the time it must take to produce them! Thanks!

      Couple of Questions;
      - Is the written test the map test?
      - Should you have all runs and at least 600 points before applying for written/map test?
      - What's the quickest/shortest time you've seen someone complete the knowledge?

    • @WizAnn320
      @WizAnn320  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you I think I may have fixed the video problem.
      The Map test is an old name carried over. It refers to the test when it contained a map section. It should no longer be referred to as the Map test but rather the Written test as no map is involved.
      Having all the runs done before the written test is a good idea, but in all honesty the amount of points could be zero and it should not make a great deal of difference to you passing or not.
      The quickest time I have seen is 18 months, I did it in 3 days short of two years,
      The dates we use are from Manor House Station to the Badge in your hand
      I started April 12 1994 and finished April 9 1996

      I make you right there mate! Personally speaking, I have started and stopped a few times, part of the reason was feeling overwhelmed and another part was feeling like I didn't know what to do. Don't get me wrong, both Wizann and KP have great material/books etc but felt like I needed it explained and sortve laid out for me a bit. Hopefully I'm not the only one that ever felt that. I just wanted to know , will the questions in the map test be assessed on all of 320 runs ? Or will it be like the self assessment test where they only test you on runs 1-80. Thank you so much.

    • @WizAnn320
      @WizAnn320  Před 2 lety +1

    • @WizAnn320
      @WizAnn320  Před 2 lety +3

      Hi Ian
      I get this question often, I am 55 and if I were wondering what to do next I would say that doing the knowledge is the perfect thing at our age. It will give you a job until you are no longer physically able to do it. It is a great stimulating challenge at this time of life that would otherwise be a mundane routine of day-to-day drudgery.
      I absolutely think you should do it.
      Best Wishes Dean

    • @WizAnn320
      @WizAnn320  Před 2 lety

      In all honesty there is no average time at the moment. It is very hard to give an accurate average. It is really between 3 to 5 years for most people. But should not be. It should be between 2 and 3 years.

    I gave up my job that I got straight from school as a music instrument salesman in a music shop in the West End and I did the green badge KOL full time as I had no financial responsibilities plus I was living at home with my parents, my dad was also a London taxi driver and he did it on a pedal bike as many did in his day. Whilst i'm not the fastest to complete the KOL by any means I completed it in sixteen months including my suburbs and drive. I could have finished it in fourteen months but I was working and studying so hard on it I missed my second 56 day appearance and the swines at the, then, PCO wouldn't let me have my second appearance immediately, they said I had to wait another 56 days. Although I do not let it eat into me (honest) I don't deny I still have opprobrium towards those at the time who didn't allow me my second 56 day appearance immediately after my phone call to them and made me wait. I'm now in my 48th year as a proud working licensed London taxi driver, and as long as my health continues and I pass the medicals we have to undertake I will still continue to be a proud working licensed London taxi driver.... the World's best. Remember nobody fails the KOL they just give up. Only 10% or less of knowledge students will ever get through to the end regardless how ever many there are on the KOL. Study and work hard at it and hopefully you will be one of the (approx) 10% who get through.

      @@WizAnn320 Thanks for that Dean.... I even complained about Finlay who was the one examiner we all didn't want because of "his ways". He was a tall Scottish sallow man (at least I think he was human male) and after answering all my runs the creep put me back from my 21 day appearances to 28's. After I remonstrated at one of the appointment windows, which was outside in the hallway remember this was in the days of Penton Street, the girl I spoke to got Finlay out and the louse just gave a low Scottish haw, haw, haw then gave me back my appointment card with the 28 day appearance scribbled out and back onto my 21 day appearances. He was no doubt seeing if I was going to go quietly or say something and stand up to him. As I was doing the KOL full time, so no income, that really made me feel lousy for the rest of that day. Ironically it was Finlay who gave me my rec and all I did was to walk out without so much of a thankyou and slammed the door. In those days the examiners were ex police, usually of the non uniformed variety, so ex CID etc, etc and you NEVER got any encouragement like you do now or comfy seats to sit on, just hard wooden things. By the way the 1979 TV film "The Knowledge" by Jack Rosenthal made by Euston films (which I believe was part of ITV's London Thames Television when ITV was far more regional) based the examiner played by the late Nigel Hawthorne on Finlay, in the film he was called Mr Burgess. You can still see this comedy drama online via CZcams I believe.

      To do it quickly the minimum will be around 5- 6 hours per day. The more you can do the better as well as it is important to find time to rest
