Love your approach Spyros, candid but clearly not intrusive. I agree, an open attitude is best, looks far less suspicious. I'm about to start a street portrait project in which I'll be asking people's permission. I notice you get a good response from people when you ask, so will use that as inspiration. Great video again Spyros.
Thank you Paul. I am glad you enjoyed. Since the time I recorded this I have started getting closer to my subjects and I have even used flash. I still take an unobtrusive approach but sometimes when I feel bold I get right in there. I see that people usually don't mind that either. I wish you good luck with your project. You should share your link here when you have some first pics. I would like to see them.
You make it look so easy Spyros. I love the man with the musket, the older men in the park, the man playing the guitar like instrument in the shop, and all of them... Brilliant! I will have to re-watch this a few times. A million thanks for sharing your work. Awe.. the men in the park... a picture is worth a thousand words. I want to go sit in this park and meet them.
Mark Hunter I am humbled by yout very kind comment and extremely happy you like the results of this Street Hunt so much. Thank you!!

The old guys at the end were great! And you being called an a*hole, hahaha. I need to learn from you and don't be shy to try street photography. Great video, man.
Cheers Douglas! I have regretted many shots I didn't make for being shy. I know that you can't always be in a courageous mood, but if you try and think that you will lose the shot forever it sometimes helps to give you that extra push to press the shutter.
Those old guys at the end were classic great photos.
MonkeyMan Thank you for your kind comment and for taking the time to watch!
this is the 2nd time i watch your vid... how brave are you take shots in front of the face :-) i wish i am too! cheers!
Thank you man. I am glad you like it. As for me being brave, I don't think so. I just get immersed into the street photography experience and go with the flow. If you feel held back when shooting, I suggest giving your self more time to practise the art, smile a lot to people and interact with them. Make business cards and share your info with people you photograph and remember that if you don't make the shot you see it will be lost for ever.

Very nice photo walk. I saw all your previous uploads and they are superb!!! Thanks to your movies I managed to overcome my fear of taking pictures to strange people. They are very informative but most of all you handle that well. Can't wait to see more of your movies!!!
Hello Piotr Radomski! I am glad to see you stopping by on CZcams! Thanks for your encouraging comments my friend! I really appreciate it. I will keep making Street Hunts so stay tuned!
Just another great video Spyros!!!
One of the very few street photographers I can watch and actually learn something from Terrific Spyros
Paul Donohoe you are very kind. Thank you for watching!
***** well I always enjoy your videos. I use a nex 7 so its nice to see someone using a nex though I think yours is a 6
Yes, I use a NEX-6 Paul Donohoe. I am very happy with it. I would have loved more controls on the outside of the camera, but that is no biggy. The results are always as I want them and it is *very* reliable, discreet, silent and capable, just what I need as a Street Photographer. Thanks again for commenting!
same with the 7 but i need a faster sharper lens (your video was very timely) and I'm often frustrated with the noise at even 400 ISO. really bad in even slight shadow areas. Fixing it in LR is sort of okay but messes with what sharpness and clarity there is. Still, it's street photography. I try hard not to think of the tech stuff!
What lens do you use Paul Donohoe? The kit lens or another one?
Hi Spyros, thanks for this. When you zone focus and maybe not looking through the viewfinder when you take a shot, how would you know if your shot is over or under exposed? That’s what I don’t get... I hope you can respond . Thank you
Hello Ricky. I am so sorry for the late reply. Thank you for taking the time to watch. The way I calculate exposure in those circumstances is purely through experience and mostly luck! I am not the most accurate photographer when it comes to exposure and that is why I shoot RAW 90% of the time. I usually get it about right, but when I don't I rely on my photo retouching software to balance it out.
Really like your approach with the video cam attached to the stills camera. I think your pic of the elderly gentlemen on the bench is the best - superb image. I'm having fun with a Sony a6000 and a couple of vintage Nikkors - a 28mm f3.5 and a 50mm f1.4. Great way to see Crete too!
Hi Andy! Cheers for the comment and for watching! Yes, using legacy glass with mirrorless cams is a joy. It feels like a combination of new tech and classic handling. Love the experience. What does the shutter of the a6000 sound like? Does it have a silent option? I wish my NEX-6 was quieter.
Stay Sharp & Keep Shooting!
Ahoy Spyros - I think the a6000 shutter is not too bad - a metallic click with a subtle plasticy ring and not too much swooosh - I think it's quieter than my NEX 5n though I need to do a direct comparison. No silent mode. Am loving the a6000 for street work - recently purchased a Voigtlander 25mm f4 Skopar - pure joy!
Andy White thanks for the reply mate! That Voigtlander 25mm f4 Skopar sounds yummy! During the time we exchanged messages here, I got myself a Fujifilm X-Pro1. So I am trying that system out now. I am liking it so far. It has better manual controls than the NEX-6 but AF is way slower. But, since I use MF glass I don't really mind about that. Got any images to show us from the Voigtlander 25mm f4 Skopar?
***** Yes the VL 25mm f4 is the sharpest lens I've owned to date - providing you nail the focus of course ;) Checkout the "Swish shaving brushes" pic in my portfolio (I'm "andywhitebrighton" on flickr) - nice eg of VL in closest focus although you'd have to see the original to really feel it - you can literally see every bristle on the big brush on the left. Have also noticed the shutter's a bit quieter on the Sony a6000 with VL - I think the big space caused by the Nikkor adaptors was acting as a sound box - the VL sits much closer to the sensor so no big cavity.
Andy White thanks for commenting. I check out your portfolio and the specific photo you mentioned. Wow, that is sharp! As for the adapters and the sound, yes, I have noticed that too.
Rethymno in Crete every summer i just love that town
Glad you like it here Ivan! What do you think of shooting street here? Do you find it hard or easy?
Great video. I find that when I get people giving me a hard time (ie. calling me an a**hole) I tend to lose confidence, but then I'll have an interaction not unlike what you had with the gentlemen in the park and I'll remember why I find street so enjoyable.
j0einc0gnit0 thanks for commenting! Yeah, Street Photography is full of surprises, good and bad. That is what makes it so enjoyable as you very well said.
_Stay Sharp & Keep Shooting!_
Great video! I especially liked the guy with the old gun, he looks like a pirate! :-] Wish I lived somewhere like this where everyone is out walking, I live in a boring suburb where everyone drives, and don't often have the chance to go out to the downtown and tourist areas.
The colours of the pictures looks nice.
Thank you! Sorry for the late reply. I never got a notification about your comment.
Another great street video. I really like the lens you were using and you did get some great shots. I'm off for the next week so hopefully I can get out with my camera. All the best and hope to see more from you soon Dave. =)
David McCarthy many thanks! I hope you get some good shots next week!
_Stay Sharp & Keep Shooting!_
That was pretty cool, thanks for sharing! What camera are you using to record video? Is it a GoPro? I used my iPhone for a POV walk around but it was a bit shaky.
Thanks for commenting Tavis Glover. Glad you enjoyed the video! I use a Sony Action cam to record this. I just mount it on the camera hotshoe and that's it. It has image stabilisation that reduces the shake. If you check my first video that I did with a Flip Cam, the shaking was more.

Cool, thanks for the info Spyros!
You are welcome Travis :-)
Very good video, Spyros.
It's really exciting to shoot with manual lens
I use several manual lenses on my sony nex.
Sorry for the late reply Jeff Martins but CZcams had damped your comment into the spam comments. I only just spotted it mate. Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to comment!
I relly enjoyed this manual segment as I am using a voightlander 40mm on my fuji as well as a nikon 50mm 1.2 on my Nikon I like the manual aspect
Thank you for watching Hefty_Miguel. Glad you enjoyed it.
This was amazing to watch. Thanks a lot for doing this. Now time to put what I learned into practice..
Keep up the great work man. Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff
Abdoulaye Balde thank you so much for watching and commenting! I am really happy you found the video useful. Stay Sharp & Keep Shooting!
what a beautiful city.
Thank you very much *****. This is Rethymno in Crete. I enjoy living here a lot :-)
Awesome shots!!!
Are you using a head cam for video or the Sony for both video and pics?
Thanks.
Thank you very much! I use the Sony NEX-6 for photos and mounted on top of that with an adaptor I use the Sony HDR as15 to record video.
Hi, I love your Vids and the Humour :) I use a Lumix GF3 and a Lumix G1 (Micro 4/3rds) and a Zeiss Jena 50.2.8 and the quality and sharpness is just amazing,,,,Keep up the great work = Respect from the UK
chris christ hello from Crete and many thanks for your kind words! Yeah, manual legacy glass has something of a quality and sharpness that few modern AF lenses have. Considering the price and the ease of use of MF lenses, I would choose them anytime!
Very nice photos and videos. Video really made me smile. Loved your approach and interaction with the people. Subscribed!
Thank you so much Des! Really glad you enjoyed the video.

I really like this post processing, are you using any particular profiles or did you adjust these all by yourself?
I just bought the esteemed 28mm f/2.8 AIS Nikkor so I've been trying to get used to zone focusing a little.
+Drive Cancel thank you for watching! I do my profiles in Color F/X on my own. If you would like more info on Zone Focusing you can check out my post www.streethunters.net/blog/2014/09/03/learn-zone-focusing-hyperfocal-distance-street-photography/. Hope it helps.

You are welcome and thanks very much, I'll definitely check that out and get out there when my camera is back from the repair centre. :)
This village is quite beautiful.
Thank you very much. It is Rethymno in Crete.
+Spyros Papaspyropoulos it's the smaller places and cities that you don't hear about that are the most beautiful in my opinion. awesome shots man :)
Domenic Quarato thank you 😊
Where do you attract your action can to record a video like this in the street? And do you recommend to shoot street with upcoming A7 III with Zeiss Loxia 35mm f2?
Hello thank you for your question. I use a tripod to hotshoe adaptor. You can find it on ebay and I connect the action cam to the adaptor using a mobile phone to tripod case. Hope that helps!
Great streethunt episode! Agree w above, very cool ending. Do you crop your photos when editing? They look very good.
Thank you Alfred Levin! As for cropping, I crop to level a shot. If it doesn't need levelling I usually don't crop. I believe the composition must be made in the camera, not in the computer, but if a shot comes out really bad and I have to crop, then I will, but only if what remains is worth it. So, the short version is I crop very, very rarely.
Like others have said - your hunts are wonderful and I thank you for taking us along!! I am wondering how you meter with regard to using legacy glass... are you shooting in full manual? Your exposures seem to be spot on, even with shadows and changing light. Thank you again, your videos inspire me to shoot more!!
Hello Kimberley Britt - Schutzler and thank you very much for taking the time to watch the Street Hunts :-) Concerning your question, I use multi metering even with legacy glass. The NEX-6 supports it even when I am not using Sony or Sony compatible lenses. But I always take a look in the viewfinder or screen before shooting and adjust the shutter speed accordingly. Helps me get darker or lighter shots. I am so happy you are inspired by the videos! Just hit the streets!
***** Thank you very much for the explanation!
You are most welcome Kimberley Britt - Schutzler!
Την άφησα την Sony. Το γύρισα σε Fujifilm X-Pro1 και παίζω με 18άρι (σαν 27άρης) και εξερευνώ ένα διαφορετικό τρόπο φωτογράφισης. Εσύ με τι φωτογραφίζεις;

Hey Spyros,
Long time subscriber of your channel here. Could you tell us the range of shutter speeds that are safe to be shooting without in camera image stabilization? I tend to shoot with legacy lenses a lot and find that there is that this blur cannot fully be eliminated.
Thanks.
+adarsh join hello and sorry for the late reply. I must have missed your notification. I would say that depending on your style and the type of camera you use you can get away with anything from 1/15th and faster. On DSLRs I would say 1/60th to be sure, but mirrorless and compacts can shoot 1/15th without worry. If you are a fast shooter, like hit and run, then I would say at least 1/125th just to be sure. Hope that helps. Cheers!
I have a legacy lens and I suck at using it... :( I want to start using it for street photography, but everytime I try to use it, I can never get my photos crisp enough
Miss Jiggy What visual aids does your digital camera have to help you manual focus? Have you tried zone focusing instead of focusing manually each time?
cant believe how sharp this lens is!
You should get one on ebay and try it out if you have the chance *****. What camera do you have?
I have been using the Canon G9 and G11. They are OK but the focusing is slow so I miss many shots - I shoot people mainly
***** I see. So it would be a good solution to master Manual Focusing. Check out www.dofmaster.com for the dof table. That should help a lot. Cheers!
Spyros, great video. What did you have on the top of your camera in the hot shoe when you took that selfie? I assume a little video camera. Can you specify?
+Joseph DAgostino thank you for watching! The thing on my hot shoe is the Action Cam that I am using to record this video. A Sony Actioncam.
Great vid. Just wandering if you were changing the aperture or shutter speed for the shots in the shadows? Did you crop in post? Again great video.
Adam Coe hi and thanks for watching and for commenting. I change the shutter speed mostly to keep my zone focusing unchanged. As for cropping, I prefer not to crop more than I need to in order to level a photograph. But then again, there have been exeptions :-). Thanks
it was great seeing you in action. Question. what device is on your camera that allows you to record will photographing
Hello David and thank you for taking the time to watch the video. I use a Sony ActionCam to record my videos and I connect it to my camera with a hotshoe to tripod adapter. You can google both items to check them out.
_Stay Sharp & Keep Shooting!_
You have a great eyes, Spyros
Η υπηρεστιακή απόσταση είναι μεγάλο πλεονέκτημα στο street photographing, χάνεις όμως το bokeh.
Ναι, συμφωνώ.
where do you have those small streets? looks nice
samin2012 this is Rethymno, Crete, Greece. You can find it on Google Maps. Cheers!
will i be able to use that lens on my nikon F80 Spyros?
I am not sure ***** but I think not. This is a Contax / Yashica mount lens or C/Y mount as it is known. Unless Nikon has an adapter for that lens you will not be able to use it. Sony, Fuji and M4/3 offer adapters and some Canons, but I don't know about Nikons.
***** Ok - thank you - I enjoy looking at your photos as well.
***** you are welcome.
really enjoyed your video out on the street!
+Clayton D'Cruz thank you very much for watching and for your kind words.
Happy Holidays & a Snapping New Year!
very impressive.
Thank you very much for taking the time to watch man.

Τρομερές φωτόγραφιες!
Ευχαριστώ πολύ!
why didn't you go down to the sea?
+J Moore no reason :-). I visit the sea in other videos. You can check them out if you subscribe to our channel!
