- If you prefer a higher frame rate and don't mind sensitive turning or a number of glitches, check out the modern PC edition walkthrough here: • Lego Island Walkthroug...
Yes, that's right. This game again. But why? What am I adding to it that wasn't in the previous walkthrough? Well...this game wasn't exactly designed with modern PCs in mind. Okay, that's obvious, but what I mean is there are really annoying issues when the game is played on any computer made in the last 15 years. This is up to and including many of the "problems" a lot of people associate this game with, including the very sensitive turning controls (that's because the sensitivity of the turning is directly connected to the frame rate, so at 60FPS, you turn ridiculously fast). So, as such, this walkthrough is more devoted to those who want an experience more "authentic" to how the game played when it was first released and will willingly sacrifice the higher frame rate. I don't expect this to get viewed anywhere near as much as the original video was (I still can't believe that video ended up booming so much in popularity), but it's here if you want it! Plus, I think it'd be good to have especially for any sort of journalist who's looking for some footage more "authentic" to how the game would have played back in the day.
This was played directly on a Pentium II 366 MHz laptop from 1999 with Windows 95 installed. No, really. I wasn't using any slow down tools or any kind of emulator for this, this is real, authentic hardware. I had a bit of trouble finding a reasonable balance between low glitchiness and a low frame rate, but I think this was about as good of a "sweet spot" as I was going to find. Also, I turned on the 3D sound for this recording where I didn't in the original walkthrough (that setting completely muffled the voices of the characters to an almost inaudible level on that one, hence the reason I left it disabled).
A few things worth pointing out about this vs. modern hardware:
* The turning is much more bearable. You don't have to carefully tap the left and right keys to make sure you don't go flying in the other direction and using the mouse to move (which doesn't even need to be done with Shift, you can just click and hold) is a little more reasonable.
* The animation where the characters fly up in the air when you run through them no longer looks completely mangled -- rather than spazzing out, they smoothly just rotate in the air. There's a few other animations that also run way too fast on modern computers as well, which a computer this old also alleviates.
* The spazzy jetski lady is...actually still pretty spazzy, just slightly less so. Oh well.
* The helicopter quest at the end of the Brickster's escape is...still pretty unplayable, but the effects last a lot longer. On a side note, I somehow managed to catch him without even having to trap him here. That's pretty rare.
* The shelf switch animations are no longer lightning quick. This especially makes sense for the helicopter building, as you now hear the "tap tap" in sync.
Most of my comments about this walkthrough are about the same as my previous one, so I won't repeat myself. I will say I got a little carried away at parts (especially with the runaway vehicles bug), but for the most part I think I covered everything that needed to be covered. Apologies for the all over the place editing, recording this was a bit of a pain, especially since the laptop I played this on isn't the greatest even for its time. There's some random beeping that happens when I press too many keys at once and occasionally the sound gets all raspy (which I think only happened once in the recording...as I take a closer look, I think that happens whenever the laptop runs out of RAM).
Enjoy the nostalgic look at the game!

@@CEO100able Actual his actual full name is Preston Roni. He is the next generation master of metal in Ninjago and the islander of metal. His powers that he can turn himself into steel, and can lift blocks of metal, and carry things over 50 times is own weight. His theme is metal man’s theme from MegaMan in a techno remix.

8 years old I stayed up playing this just cruising around bc I couldn't sleep, now I'm 31 watching this while I can't sleep.
who else agrees that this game should be REreleased on steam?
Unfortunately it's probably never going to happen, given Lego's attitude towards their old games.
(Also, a release on GOG would be ten million times better)
Mr. Eight-Three-One is this Game worth buying
It's easy to get running on new systems. Keep the original disc and play away :)
At least Lego Racers 1 and 2 are Approvable.
the game has been remade on unreal engine and it looks amazing just like what the original game would have been if the technology had been there a full 3d environment

As an autistic adult, I struggle with change. Nostalgia brings me immense comfort and relief when things are out of my control. Thank you for uploading this, this used to be my favorite game!!!
cringe
The music and overall atmosphere in this game brings back so much nostalgia. I use to have this game back in 1999 for Windows 98 I think .
Dude the elevator you could take to the roof and change the time of day and that particular music that played is something I’ll never be able to forget.
damn man. This is the first time Ive seen this game again since I played it on the big dinosaur computer we used to have

Anyone else notice that Pepper is voiced by John Morris, the same kid who voiced Andy in "Toy Story"?
yes it did
*WHAAAAAAAAA-* (head a-splodes)
Now an adult, yes! And I also noticed that Pepper has dyslexia: a learning disorder which makes it hard to learn spelling (or sometimes math, on which he’s good at...) However it’s not caused by low intelligence but something else I can’t really explain.
Wow I never new that
You learn something new every day.
It's interesting to see this game play at a different frame rate.

Mr. Eight-Three-One what the fuck does that have to do with this lol I’m saying this video is the best thing ever posted
Heh, thanks?
Yeah, from what I know that meme's origin comes from that "Bee Movie but every time..." video, as a joke on how you plan to accomplish a lot in a little time.
But I guess that's also a good way of using it, heh
This is like an interaction you'd see in this game
You still gotta search for the video and maybe watch an ad that you may or may not can skip
This is a wild nostalgia trip for me. Born in 1990, I adored this game
Same!!!
The best part is this is an accurate representation of what playing with our Lego actually looked like with my siblings
Back in 2004/2005 I loved this game. One of my earliest memories was hanging out in my oldest brother's room and playing his computer. I'd play this, pajama Sam, midtown madness, Freddy fish, Paint, an old star wars game or two, and RuneScape.
I remember the first time i released the Brickster i was blown away like 'wait whats going on did shit just get real?"
Dude, that fucking music, it brings back the memories.
I remember when I changed the sky to any other color than blue, I'd have a nightmare about the game the following night. I WANT THOSE DAYS BACK.
Awww haha
My mind is overflowing with nostalgic memories of this game. I also remember this game crashing and fucking up a lot. Great game though!
This is why I love CZcams
Oh, this brings back great memories when we did these recordings, thank you again and always for posting!
Wow, a comment from one of the music composers! That's quite an honor!
And no problem! Glad to provide nostalgia!
...the PIZZERIA. How could i forget the most memorable part??!?
Wow, I remember playing this game with my twin brother when it came out. We were only about 5. We had so much fun with this game, but remember getting stuck all the time lol
I also remember playing this with my twin brother on the old windows 95 system down in our basement lol.
Born in 92, this game was my childhood. Nick Brick, the police-noir intro scene, so clever.
"When you're in your home or in your car, you are never really far, from L-E-G-O Radiooo!!!" I can't stop singing that now...
I was playing this in 2002 thinking it was brand new. 1997!!!! It’s crazy how a game can take you back in time..
I have to say that when i played this game i was so young i can hardly remember anything ,but as soon as i started watching is i was all in it again!
Yeah me too
Wow, what a flashback! I used to play this game so much as a little kid with my dad back in 1998!
For some reason 20 years later this game popped in my head and I had to look it up. What a nostalgic game, the soundtrack is amazing
I remember playing this! I’m 28 now, was born in 93!
My grandfather was always a computer guy so we were always lucky to have computers throughout our childhood!
Putt Putt, Reader Rabbit, Jump Start, Big Thinkers, Freddi Fish!
I remember all of those!
Sometimes I wish I could go back to that time, as kids we really don’t realize how carefree life is and how good we have it until it’s gone!
My life just flashed before my eyes...
This was one of my earliest memories playing a PC game, it feels like a fever dream to see this. I think I was around 5 years old just exploring the world but I couldn't figure out what I'm supposed to do. Seeing it now, I still don't know what you were supposed to do in the game lol.
So much childhood nostalgia hit me watching this. My lifelong love of pizza and donuts started because of the helicopter sequence.
Heard a jazz song today and brought me to this game. Haven't thought about it for 15 years. I still remember those lines "don't DROP him!!"
First game I had when I got my Compaq Presario more than 20 years ago. Had no idea it was considered 'open-world' back then.
The memories playing this game!
That startup menu at the very beginning...how do even describe it? Epic is too cliche and nostalgic is overused, but there's no denying that it meant the start of one of the most magical, whimsical games even to this date
47:24 - That sound effect was also heard in Teletubbies.
Narrator: That's the sound of Po's scooter. Stolen by LEGO.
Po: *giggle* Sound of Po coota, stolen by LEGO. Uh-oh!
DeeAngel Arroyo Hey, some people lived their childhoods watching that!
CEO100able That’s a stock SFX.
It’s a stock sound
I'm assuming it's a stock sound, since I think I heard it in Toy Story also
At some point you realize that this game was all about dismembering and decapitating innocent islanders.
And turning everyone into pizza-heads.
and putting the brickster back in jail
This is one of the first video games i played. I was 5 and this really brings the good old times back and now over 10 years later i could still play it and enjoy it
" In your home or in your car, you're never really far from L.E.G.O radio!" I use to play this game! Hahaha
Bless you for putting this on CZcams. Its so calming. I miss this game immensely! Even though the CD I had as a kid was scratched and glitched a ton
This game brings so much memories, I still have the cd
One of the best lets plays of this game I've seen in a while.
Huge part of my childhood. Damn I can barely remember it but I used to love it going to my friends house down the block
It was fun watching this because when I first played this game when I was younger, I played it on a Pentium III rig which made it at the unintended speed. I did not care then but it is crazy to see how it was intended to be played. Speaking of which, it is possible to run the game on a modern rig at the proper speed in Direct3D.
Mr. Eight-Three-One Actually, using dgvoodoo2 and Dxtory which has a good framerate limiter even in the base shareware version, it works pretty darn good actually IMHO. Not only can you upscale with dgvoodoo2, but since it is a DirectX wrapper, it perfectly runs it in Direct3D without a lot of hassle AND you can use antialiasing to make it look smoother.
Also playing with the framerate limiter, 15 FPS seems to be the sweet spot to be somewhat smooth, but also at a right speed so things aren't spazzing like mad. At worst it is like an average N64 game at that speed which isn't too bad since it is not a high action game to play.
10 FPS is the only one I found that perfectly synced up the shelf switch in the helicopter building activity with the sound effects, but yeah, 15 is also pretty tolerable.
This game was the first Lego game to have talking not lego batman 2!!!!!!
That is so true.
You meant Lego Batman 1.
Actually it was the first lego game for CD.
And it was the first game that had town and driving before lego city undercover
Uh... this was the first LEGO game, period.
Oh my God so many sights and even more sounds I haven't heard in almost 30 years...
Wow. Core memory, I used to love the skateboard and just riding vehicles for hours.
Thank you for uploading this! i loved this game so much, and as much as i remember playing it, i remember crashing on my computer a lot when I was younger, so it was often a pain trying to boot up.
I loved just cruising on the bike and doing the races…I remember the race being scary at the time lol born in 89
Memories! Forgot this game existed until I was trawling Toy Story’s Wikipedia and ended up learning the kid who voiced Andy voiced Pepper in this game. The music is great too
Classy touch including "Miserlou" by Dick Dale for the beach theme. SURF'S UP!
Also, Andy from toy story is the voice of pepper the skater kid.
13:34-14:07 the wierdest part of the game
@39:59 I just realized that the "NO PIZAZ" sign changed to "No Pizza" because you're a different character. o_o
Yeah when you're Pepper the sign is spelled wrong. This is due to that Pepper can't read and ties in to how Brickster tricked him into releasing him.
Awesome walkthrough. You really experienced it all!
So many fond memories playing this as a kid, thanks so much for uploading this!
I remember playing this game at my cousin's house when we were kids. We could never capture the Brickster, though. We either failed hard at the helicopter part or the computer would freeze up.
13:38 That totally makes sense, you can barf up an entire shark.
I loved playing this back around 2005 when we had the older computer with Windows XP as the operating system. Thank you for sharing this, it brings back memories that had been forgotten as the years passed.
This game was created by geniuses. What a nostalgic feeling I get from watching this. Being a 6 year old boy when it was released thank you for posting this!
A whole different era.
Jesus Christ this game was my childhood. I completely forgot about a lot of this lol
I miss this game.😭
I LOVED this game when I was kid.
I had no idea and well not any other game so I just played this lol.
Nice walkthrough. I remember playing this game on an old Gateway Pentium 2 computer back on the day.
Thanks for uploading, loved this game growing up
This game used to give my family’s 90s computer a stroke but I loved playing it
Watching this brings back so much memories
Makes me miss being a child, so bliss.
This took me way tf back to when I was 5 years old 0.0 dude literally this popped up in my recommend feed and I have forgot about this game for sooooo long man what a nostalgia trip 😤
This was the greatest game of my childhood hands down
Thank you for doing this Mr 831, your a legend :)
Hi!
It's so weird to see a game I used to play for hours after so many years. I'm impressed how good it looks for 1997 and even the soundtrack is great.
This is awesome, somehow I know all the words just before they happen. The dialogue is like a song my kid brain knew every word to. I remember there was like a hat store that was only open on certain days of the week, maybe it was the weekend because I could only play on the school computer during the weekdays and never got to go in
Bro this fuckint game man. I remember being like 6 or 7 thinking it was so cool. Must have played it 30 times through
Edit:After watching 15 minutes of this. The music is bringing back so many memories. The nostalgia is overwhelming. Wish I was a kid again
*Nostalgia alert*
Maaaan I am having flashbacks right now. CANNOT believe I found this! Haven't thought about it in over 20 years.
Same here man! Holy crap. I randomly thought about it after seeing a random video on CZcams that somehow triggered this memory. I haven’t thought about this game in 20 years as well. I sat in my chair smiling just full of nostalgia watching. I miss being a kid man, I miss it.
It's pretty clear that this game was very limited the island is laughably small you could lap the island in under a minute. When I played the game the entire score Cube was red and when the game ended the guy would always say that there's some things that I sort of missed and I always was frustrated by that because I thought I'd done everything, so I would scour the island looking for any little Easter egg I could find but couldn't find a single one, at one point I thought there was a hidden pirate ship type of level because there's a door that you go do that you knock on that pirate answers that doesn't let you inside and I thought maybe there was some trick to make him open the door. But I never could figure it out the only good character was Pepper cuz he's the only one where you actually fight the brickster. It was a nice game but it just felt kind of short and empty with content but what could you expect from 1995? Still it's cool to see you play it.
I may not have played this game when I was a kid, but Nick is always going to be my favorite person in the game. And I even have his email! His elemental power is electricity, and he can generate from his hands, or his breath the equivalent of 2000 electrical power lines plus all of the electrical sources on the island at once which is exactly 200,000 megawatts second. That’s enough that even with one shock of any person on the island,His zap could cause insanely bad shocking, or even death. Next theme is Broken circuit by Marika Suzuki, and also fuse man’s stage theme from MegaMan 11. He is also the second generation form of fuse man, and second generation lightning ninja in Ninjago. Other powers that Nick has, aside from the special weapon for the robot master that he has the second form of, he can run at the speed of lightning, and can basically go from one side of the island to the police station in a matter of a flash of lightning.
just remberd this game so funny to see it back. the only thing i hated was that i always was very slow, crashing, getting stuck or you couldnt catch the annoying bad guy. but aside for that i really like just riding around the city
More often than not, I'd loose the island to the brickster. so fun!
I literally have him physically myself.
1:40:01 “The brickster has esca-“ “OH NO- OHHHNO-“
Out of curiosity i looked this up trying to find the games my brother and I played ln our old gateway with Windows 2000. I only remembered the intro 😂 and of course, 5 year old me remembers it looking a lot more impressive, but the nostalgia remains.
I remember playing this on my old giant monitor white computer waaaay back in the day when I was a kid & thinking how amazing in the graphics were! 😂😂😎
OMG THE THROWBACK !! Thanks for sharing this !!
Its wierd seeing a game again that I havent played in around 18 years
Gotta wonder whose bright idea it was to put the easily accessible helicopter next to the easily opened jail cell.
Looking back on Lego Island and Lego Star Wars it really shows how much gaming has evolved, for better or worse.
it's like a fever dream where I remember everything as it's being said but I also have no idea what's going to happen next
"Pepper? Cool. Pizza? Even cooler!"
that hospital music is so nostalgic i want to cry. i miss the past people in my life so much
