Brutally Quick 3 Row Limo SUV - 2020 BMW X7 M50i POV Drive

  • The BMW X7 M50i packs a serious punch with its 523hp 4.4L twin turbo V8, but even more surprising is the way you can chuck it into a corner. It is of course bias to understeer, but it allows you to carry incredible speed for a 3 row SUV. It's also a refined Limousine that will deliver a quiet, relaxed experience for 6 passengers (7 if you opt for the second row bench).

Tons and tons of X7s around SE Michigan. I still don't like this car, but I can definitely respect how nice the interior is. I just wish that BMW would follow the Porsche model of business, where they build a ton of these SUVs but then they put that money back into visceral sports cars that are true to form. Other than the M2 (which is fantastic), I feel that BMW M just builds numbers cars nowadays :/ Not to mention the questionable reliability with their V8s. Before, you could put up with maintenance woes because the cars were truly special. Anyway, fantastic video and you did an awesome job showcasing the X7 :)

Thank you Alex. I want to love the m2 but it weighs almost the same as the m3 and the interior is sooooo cheap. It’d be such an easy choice if it was 3200-3300 lbs but it’s kind of a porker at 3600 lol

It’s a “Masters of the Universe” level of vehicle. That V8TT is a monster. The ultra high end performance/luxo SUV’s are where it’s at. No one wants a car anymore.. Why would you with this level of performance, tech, room, and luxury?? I bet you won’t see many of these in the M50i. Very expensive $135k + loaded up. Let’s face it people that can afford to own one of these also owns a sports car, etc... Your rolling like a “boss” at this level.

It really shows how SUVs have evolved over the past decade or so when the Durango and Lexus GX came out. Now they can do pretty much everything a car can. If I had the money I'd probably still take a 7-Series over this, but I wouldn't feel I was missing out on much by getting the SUV.

Honestly it seems like they are knocking it out of the park with their M-branded SUVs, which makes sense as thats where the market is currently (at the sad expense of less spirited sedans). As an owner of a x3 m40i I can say its probably one of the best (and possibly special) cars to come from BMW recently. Cool to see that even the x7 delivers on the same promise.

I have not driven the GLS yet, but the X7 packs way more performance. GLS 580 is down on power quite a bit and frankly I don't believe it looks very good. So without driving it, the X7 has my vote. That could change if it really impresses when I have a go in it.

A well done SUV for sure, but I think I prefer the GLS personally. That grille still has not grown on me AT ALL🤮🤢🥴. And honestly, I find the M Performance treatment on a 3 row SUV silly. I want my people hauler to just be a comfortable people hauler. But completely agree that technology in new cars has gone wayyyyyyy off the deep end. Too much and more than I’d ever want in a car personally. And a lot of it isn’t actually about engineering a better solution - much of it is just about engineering toys and marketing gimmicks that wow you once and you never use again!🤦🏼‍♂️
