'Zoom Club' from 'In for the Kill' is a must-listen but also the title track and all of 'Bandolier' which this track is from. Budgie deserve all the praise, seriously never hit the heights their music deserved, up there with Sabbath, Zeppelin and Purple. Great reaction Nick loving the heavier stuff.

I had this album on vinyl in the late 70’s. It had the best production/sound of any rock album I owned. My record player loved this album. I think that in the digital age some audio things are lost. This album is my comfort food, when I feel down this album is my best friend.

Budgie... one of the greatest bands you never heard of with one of the greatest guitarists (Tony Bourge) you never heard of... unfortunately Burke Shelley (bass and vocals) passed away January this year. One of my all time favorite bands. Far too many great songs to list...11 albums and an EP (the last album released in 2006, 20+years after it's predecessor). I had a chance to see them in a bar back in the mid 70s...$1.05 cover charge... didn't know who they were... didn't go... heard the albums "Bandolier" and "If I were Brittania I'd Waive the Rules" a couple of weeks later at a friend's house... been kicking myself in the a** ever since.

So true. Conversationally I'll add that Nazareth is my all time favorite. I met Dan McCafferty (lead vocals) briefly when I was 16 (1982) They did a show at Dayton Hara Arena, my Uncle was Director of promotions there. Anyhow he knew I was a fan so he arranged it for me. Dan was more than a little surprised that I knew a good chunk of their catalog. I played Jet Lag for him and he signed my guitar. I still have it. He was a great guy. Sadly he died without notice, or the recognition he deserved just last month, Nov. 8, 2022... RIP Dan McCafferty one of Rock & Rolls true greats

Great choice! Bandolier was the first Budgie LP that I got turned onto in 1978. Of note, Rodger Bain produced both debut albums by Black Sabbath and Budgie back in 1970-71, for that raw, Live studio sound..
"The Author ", "Nude Disintigrating Parachutist Woman", and "In the Grip Of the Tyrefitter's Hand" display that heavy, but melodic sound..

That's what's so amazing about Budgie; they were totally unpredictable so that you could never anticipate which way they would go. They were famous for that. Burke Shelley was Geddy Lee before Geddy Lee was. Finally, moving rhythmically to a beat is a primal instinct. If you don't then your dead.

I've been a Budgie fan for a while. They are definitely underrated in general and they have a ton of great songs. Bandolier, the album this is off of, is great, but my favorite of theirs is Never Turn Your Back on a Friend. The opener for that album, Breadfan, is probably their most well-known song (Metallica did a cover of it), but it's kind of a stand-out song in their whole discography. Enjoy working your way thru Budgie!

Contrary to what others have said here, Bandolier is their best album. This song and Who Do You Want For Your Love (check this one out, Nick), just a rocking album from Wales. When I was in my early 20s I was in a used record store flipping through stacks and I saw this album for 1$. I had never heard of them (surprising since they are right in my wheelhouse) but the album cover was so cool I bought it. Have listened to it 1000 times since. Burke Shelly has a unique voice, and that is one ........different kind of guy.

Budgie is the best heavy metal band that not too many folks have heard of. Good observation on.the Geddy Lee comparison. The lead vocalist and bassist of Budgie, Burke Shelley, has often been called Geddy Lee's doppelganger in voice and appearance. Budgie released their first album in 1971 so they were contemporaries of the other big hard rock acts of the day, but unfortunately they didn't sell a lot of records so they mainly flew under the radar

I never really considered Budgie to be a 'Metal' band. They were one of many flavours of progressive/hard rock available during the day.

True, when interviewed a few years ago, Burke was spitting feathers when his music was discribed as Heavy Metal!

    • @Nissardpertugiu
      @Nissardpertugiu Před rokem +1

So Sabbath , Priest aren't metal...
      Everybody was experimenting.
Its not they weren't heavy metal, its just the spectrum of what a heavy band could do wasn't yet restricted by that trve bullshit attitude.
Not suprised Burkley wasn't really happy to that metal thing because from their point and generation the appellation is too limiting by a tag.
But that doesn't mean they don't belong in heavy music

One of the bands that I've seen most over the years. A power trio from South Wales, they had moderate success through the 70s, here in the UK, and this is from their 5th album in 1975, "Bandolier". Sadly their leader, bass player & singer, Burke Shelley died earlier this year. PS The song is pronounced "Napoleon Bonapart (as in the famous French general) 1 & 2"

There are some the believe these guys were the first heavy metal band. I really wish I would have paid attention to them when I was young. They were really an outstanding band and his voice is just mesmerizing and can put you in a trance. Their songs just weren't radio playable, and all their albums had birds on them which in a way was kind of strange and not really that hard rock image.

This is why you guys are my fave reviews channel. It's like ya'll been thumbing thru, discovering all my vinyl.

Hi Nick, yes this is such a great track. It was the 2nd I had also ever heard by this group, and not that long ago. I was considering buying the albums, I think that is becoming more likely now. Lol ... So funny someone finding it odd not to move & groove to music. I just can't imagine anyone becoming a statue during tracks like this. Maybe he got too much starch washed with his underwear ? Byee ! Jim X
