Crete is the largest and one of the most popular of the Greek islands, located in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. It is known for its rich history, diverse landscapes, and vibrant culture.
Crete is characterized by a varied landscape, including mountains, plateaus, and coastal areas. The White Mountains (Lefka Ori) and Mount Ida are among the prominent mountain ranges on the island.
The island is famous for the Samaria Gorge, one of the longest gorges in Europe, which attracts hikers and nature enthusiasts.
Crete has a deep historical significance and is often associated with the Minoan civilization, one of the earliest advanced civilizations in Europe. The ancient city of Knossos, with its intricate palace, is a major archaeological site on the island.

The trip was not strange at all. On the contrary, it was very well organized. We had only 4 accommodations, all in the north (in order Platanias, Rethymnon, Istro and Heraklion. From Platanias we visited Chania, the Akrotiri peninsula, Balos, Falassarna, Elafonisi, Ano Vouves. Komolithi and the Samaria Gorges. On the way to Rethymnon we detoured to the south, where we saw Loutro. From Rethymnon we went to Preveli, Kourtaliotiko Gorges and Souda beach. From Rethymnon to Istro we passed through Margarites and to the Arkadi monastery. From Istro we went to Voulisma and Vai beaches. From Istro to Heraklion we visited Spinalonga and from Heraklion we went to Knossos, Phaistos, Gortyna, Lyrakis Winery and Matala beach.🙂
