I read the lyrics beforehand and it seems she is torn between someone she loves and hates at the same time. I liked the performance, the song had a good sound to it and she has a great voice too!

I think you were reacting to Postmodern Jukebox when Mon Laferte came to my mind. This song is 5 years old at least, so I dont think this is the only style she does, she must be doing more pop & latin stuff now.
What's interesting to me about this performance is that this is 100% real sound. The mix isn't the best, it has some "mistakes" and yet she nailed it.

Her range is like whoa. Check out her song "Vendaval" sometime. I can't hit those low notes she does in that song. EDIT: give her song "Que Si" a shot - the part where she goes into birdsong is one of the happiest things ever recorded. As far as her doing different things with her voice, "No Te Fumes Mi Marijuana" has her doing a few different things with it, especially in the live version.
