- Showing an example of how you can incorporate the E minor pentatonic scale into all the chords of the G major scale to get so fancy, emotional chord playing. Let the line between lead and rhythm playing be blurred forever more.

I truly respect the way you teach. I like it how you try to slide in the theory stuff in a way that it is easy to understand, instead of just going through the chords of Wonderwall or whatever. When people ask me for good channels or sites to learn basic theory and to get started with music I always tell them to check out Sean Daniel. This is why I now must ask you to keep up the good work, because my honour and trustworthiness lies in your hands.
Well said, I've been doing the same.
Justinguitar is awesome too.
+Erik Döderlund it's a lot pressure but I accept the task!
yeah, and Steve Stine. Donwn-to-earth people
TRUE TO THE CORE
This guy is one of the BEST on CZcams. He is just a great teacher - a talented one.
One of your best lesson at least for me. thanks
Humor, knowledge & experience always make a great teacher - and that you are! I use some of ur stuff for my guitar students/teaching ...mucho gracias...
The way you make the music theory practical ❤️... It's feels good to know why you've learned... And the way they are connected... I truly respect you for selecting such topics.
Thanks so much for watching!
I agree with your well balanced thoughts on what people should be playing. I’m learning from scratch and I’m keeping my mind open to all growth potentials.
Why is Sean such a great teacher? I just know that if I want to understand a guitar concept I want to know what He says about it.
I'VE LEARNED A LOT WITH JUST 1 VIDEO !! SO GOOOOOD !! NOW IT'S TIME TO PRACTICE....THANKS SEAN !!!!
Interesting stuff. This is kind of what I discovered a few months back with hammer-ons but only in the standard form (not moving around). Truly, I didn't know why it sounded good, but knew that it did. Now I understand it's in a scale and I can move around a bit more. This is really a great tip!
Suddenly something mysterious became perfectly clear! Thank you!
Awesome lesson. A subject covered like no other.
Well, thank you very much. You made me play better in one week which I couldn't achieve in 8 years. Thanks again! :)
+Daniel Brunner so cool to hear! Happy to help!
Testify!!
Thank you for the lesson! Beautiful guitar too!
I keep learning always more than i expect every time i open a video from you. It´s almost unbelievable how much better i understand all you say and explain about guitar ways to play. I don't know any better lessons than yours. Thank you very, very much!!
I'm very flattered. Thanks so much for the support :)
Sean, again you've totally opened up my idea space about guitar. Thank you.
Always happy to help!

Thank you Sean your the best teacher of guitar so far all the other guys talk too much.
Love your teaching Sean
Thanks so much Michael!
Thank you for your lessons
I think I just learned more from you in under 8 minutes than I've learned about making music in the past year. Thank you very much!
So cool to hear! Thanks for checkin it out!
Sean Daniel I got a question : How come that we are in E pentatonic but you begin playing with a G chord instead of E chords ? Thanks
@@papoumkl7118 The E minor pentatonic scale is the G major pentatonic scale.
Great stuff! Thanks.
So simple yet so brilliant - thanks a ton man!
No problem Ali!
Always excited when a new video comes out
Always hyped!
YES! Totally agree with not having to choose between between rhythmn or lead. Love your humor.
Thank you so much! Thanks for watching :)
Mind blown. Should have seen that myself. Very cool. Thanks!
Happy to help!
Facial expressions. Yes. You are now adding that visual aspect and an air of would be intelligence. Love it.
Hell yes great tutorial

Happy to help!
Very nice tutorial! Thanks Sean!
+Vishnu Pillai happy to help!
Excellent.
Dude puts the fun in playing guitar.🤘
Thanks so much!
Wow, this is really an epiphany. I was definitely guilty of thinking of "scales for solos" and "chords for rhythm". I'm really excited to try mixing some knowledge of scales in to make my chord playing more interesting. Thanks for the great channel Sean!
Your welcome! Happy to help :)
This video just made things click. That was so fun. I am so grateful you keep doing these videos instead of leaving us for a stand up comedy career. I would however watch those as well.
thnx Daniel again..really your tips are helpful...😄😄

really helpful lesson, your explanations are so funny , I really like your approach. Thank you for sharing.
Always happy to help!
Terrific video as usual! I have only been playing for 2 yrs. & am not very good at it yet. This will help with the chords that I do know how to play, so thanks for that. Keep up the great work............ Steve
You'll get there Steve! Just keep finding time to practice and get better. Thanks for watching the videos!
thank you! i will try this.. God bless you!
Right on!

So great to hear Mark!

"Wish you were here" kept wanting to fall out my guitar while I was working through this! Thanks Sean :-)
Yeah I definitely hear that too!
Good lesson.
Great video ... plus the tip of the face gestures is priceless 😉
Happy to help :)
mindless noodling is my entire guitar life
Wow ,thankyou 💥
Thanks!
This reminds me a bit of clawhammer and is heard a lot in folk and country, my favorite style.
For sure! I'm trying to do some more clawhammer stuff soon!
Best guitar teacher on youtube
Bro ur style is just so amazing... Wish u can send the strum patterns u use in ur vids... They're so simply melodious
Thanks so much! I'm actually gonna make a video about it soon :)
Thanks man. Subbed.
Love your tutorials man I appreciate all of them so much. just as a question (open to everyone) rather than use a capo how would you do those inflections relative to the key of say : A minor, and would you use the c major scale over that or stick with the A minor pentatonic
You are a teacher indeed
Great ideas. Thank you.
+LEE BRALY thanks for watching lee!
Thank you thank you thank you
Very nice Sean
Thank you :)
I love your lessons they are quite easy to follow...how do I get videos you have done on fingering???...and also how to know what scales are in what key..please
Awesome teaching skills ! Love how you make it simple to understand .... and i now anticipate your pre lesson humour haha
Happy to help! Thanks so much for watching the lessons :)
The facial expression thing is Gold. Making it look good!!!!!!
;)
Thanks Sean. Another great video. This is such a great explanation of a sound I hear all the time in music. For years, I could never figure it out what they were doing. Such a simple techniquie, with a good description. Throw in a capo and you can do that anywhere right?
Yup, that's the true value of a capo!
Thanks
Hey loving your video tutorials, i feel like my guitar playing has come on a lot since starting to watch your videos! Have you ever made or would you make a video on substituting more 'jazzy' chords for 'normal' chords? I am just never sure when and how I can use these crazier chords so that it will sound good! Thanks
So great to hear! I'm definitely going to do a video on that soon!
Excellent
+justinjex1 thanks for checking it out!
You are pretty amazing, can you please teach us how to play some beautiful melodies using this four cords G , D , Em and C Major
the facial expression is so essential, glad you pointed that out :)
Neil Young's "Old man" utilizes the E minor pentatonic in this fashion . It's real cool song I enjoy plating it . Also Cinnamon girl is in drop d tuning that Sean uses in his riff deconstruction video, of a Filter song .
Neil Young is a master at this type of thing.
You a re one of the best teachers on you tube...Can you please make a video using only power chords.
+Jamesfender Bond Thanks so much! Have you watched this one yet? czcams.com/video/9sYCJIQ00fA/video.html
Sub earned, nice presentation and content :)
Thanks so much! Welcome to the party!
Hey Sean! Can you make a video on when to use different tunings of guitar and get exposed to new and brighter sounding chords?
Great idea!
Lovely! :)
Thanks for watching!
This is awesome! Can you make a video showing how to do this with different keys?
Great idea, I'll put it on the list!
Freed me up 👍
Happy to help!
u r teaching good lesson thnku
Thanks for watching Anish!
halo sir can u teach me how to play fingerstyle lesson
Great video! Out of curiosity, I see that you play a D chord, how come it sounds okay even though parts of the chord which include (first string second fret) wasnt one of the notes of the G pentatonic scale?
Great
your a funny guy man, really enjoyable
Good video
I recently learned that you can substitute the V7 for the diminished chord, so D7 could sub for F#dim. I noticed you threw in the D7 here. It might make a good lesson on why this works.
great idea!
thanks Sean! are you doing anything special with your strumming hand when you hammer on and pull off, or just doing it during normal strums?
Just doing it within the context of up and down strumming :)
the facial expression thing-hilarious!
:)
Most important tip
Literally went over this Thursday at my guitar lesson
So cool to hear! Keep rocking Craig :)
Love your videos. How would playing the Em pentatonic work with Gmaj7, Cmaj7, and D7...would the same idea work using the relative minor? Just curious.
+Larry Zeiders yup it all works exactly the same. You're just using extended chords with it but same philosophy applies :)
The facial expression bit cracked me up. Great eye opening lessons by the way, just discovered your channel and sub'd!
Thanks so much! Welcome to the party!
Hey Sean.. great video once again. Will be glad if u can answer few of my queries:
- Any particular reason for choosing relative minor pentatonic scale. Can't we achieve dat same stuff playing within the main key's major scale or probably mixing both.
Yes! Definitely mix both scales together :) I just chose minor pentatonic because that seems to be the one guitar players gravitate to the most.
Sean Daniel thanks Sean for the prompt reply :)
Great stuff Sean! I laughed out loud when you said G was "The People's key". You should have arched your eye brow like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The People's Champion, haha. Awesome lesson.
+breadenthusiast Missed a golden opportunity! Thanks for watching!
that was so eloquently stated about how "we" separate our selves from either learning lead "scales" or learning the melodies of songs that has been my problem i'm constantly in the class room i'm always sitting on the bench when it should be time for recess but the way u married "hooked up these two lost soul was brilliant they should be hooking up and making whoopie and speaking of whoopie i want to thank you and the gorgeous katie lowe for making me very happy by taking my request of joining together to sing black bird there's going to be a little something in yours and lady lowe's stocking for christmas and not just a lump of coal like what i'm used too i have a feeling christmas is coming early this year 💰😇 even if it doesn't have my name on it, u and your pep'[s can rest assured it came from me!!! me!!! me!!! and not taylor swift 😂
I appreciate it!!!!
@@seandaniel23 de nada!!!
Very good!!!! József Vilmann from Hungary
Thanks for watching!
Please try to play cannon with multiple techniques such as pentatonics and more
Excellent lesson, Sean. Thank you. Do you know of any songs that use the F# diminished chord? I love the sound of it but every song in G seems to use G, C and D.
Hmmm, I believe just this one: czcams.com/video/DksqKKKdvcM/video.html
Thanks for that. Some really nice chords in that song. You're very talented.
Yes angst filled facial expressions are the key to the tortured artist look.
I've got it down :)
May I confirm.. if you going to mix a pentatonic scale in with some chords that it's best to play the 6th minor pentatonic? As opposed to playing the G pentatonic with G Chords? (I've tried combining by playing the G pentatonic with my G scale chords.. I'm guessing this is wrong now?)
Basically relative minor pentatonic over the whole chord progression? E.g. C Am F G?
Does your husband get tired of your jokes? You are hilarious. Keep the lessons coming. They are making you tube great again!! Thanks Sean!
Will do ;)
