its obvious Gennady was working on defensive footwork and his defense while moving backwards with angles. He threw maybe 5 punches in 3 minutes when meanwhile there was alot of openings. anyone that thinks any different doesn't know boxing and training sparring.

      He was.
And that left hook he connected with was pretty good and he didn't follow up.
Looked to me he was just working on his counters to jabs .

Exactly, you might be doing this till round 5 saving all that energy then let it go from the 5th onward as an example, while brook was coming forward throwing a lot of punches then having to defend an onslaught from golovkin.
Brook should have defended heavily as best as he can till the 5th, then step it up. but he didnt

JackJames that's exactly what it looked like only defensive posture, movement, and ring presence,he has good movement, but I see why he is so relentless when he presses forward because,,,,,A. he is not a dancer he is flat footed,,B. the ring is smaller when you are in a retreating posture,,,C.his more predictable when in retreating motions,,,,D.he couldn't cut the ring off like when he is in his offensive motions, and has to figure out during his retreating motions, how to maneuver, and transition from offence to defense back to offensive retreating motions. This is why he puts a gladiators effort into his whole fight plan, cause it is way too uncomfortable for him to adapt to a retreating offensive mode, and he knows with his kind of power and ring generalship, there isn't a handful of fighters that can make him retreat, more or less he with his kind of offensive Style ,he is giving you his best and most aggressive feeling of confidence, and in retreating he has to learn how to regain his aggressive confidence

This isn't really sparring. What Gennady was trying to do was work on his defense and movement. Tony is 154lbs so he is naturally quicker and faster, so GGG was getting the feel of a faster puncher.

    • @TheTuita
      @TheTuita Před 8 lety +1

Ward wouldn't budge from 50/50 at 168... he's not even worth 50/50 on an even playing field. I don't like to worry about the "business side" of the sport (and I wish the fight had happened anyway), but I'm not so naive as to think it makes any sort of sense for the less lucrative fighter to demand equal money AND his own weight division.
If GGG had wanted Canelo at 160 for even close to equal money he would have been laughed at.
As for the Charlos and Andrade, sure they look good but they're not "elite". In your own words "Who have they fought?"
Let them come up to 160 and get themselves in a position to fight. Then if/when GGG ices them, you'll call them "bums" anyway.

i know ive had my good and bad days in the gym. on good days, you feel confident. on bad days when you get your ass served, you feel determined to train harder to be better.
thats how i was. i sparred semi pros (which later turned pros) and some seasoned amateurs. so i got my ass handed to me more than i did kicking ass.
but i did notice that i learned from it and gotten better because those same sparring partners got easier and easier to fight. it wasnt a cake walk but i held my own.

***** , Amos my apologies that was quite the forward statement on my behalf and meant no disrespect.
Good Newz Boxing I believe was named after the Gospel. My trainer and his best friend started the gym in 2009 and I know they are both very faithful men. It's interesting you've mentioned all this I've been through a lot lately with family and unfortunately its rendered me agnostic this past year...
Although the word of the Lord is meant in all Love so I respect that. If there is one God out there Im sure he loves you as well. I do not really follow any religion or faith but i fully respect the word and story of Jesus...
Good that you have followed him though, i'm sure you have turned your life around in what it was meant to be. Happy for you and wish you well.

At the moment I will be leaving for Texas tomorrow for one week but i will be back and in contact with you and open to your thoughts, perspective, and encouragement.
I'm sorry to hear you also when through a rough patch of confusion and tough times in this life. Good to hear you are in positive being and a higher light watching over you.
Nice gesture on the Psalm as well
      Psalm 34:18
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
I liked that.... Wishing you well Amos, i'll be in touch

Golovkin has solid defense..He slips a lot of punches with intelligent upper body movement and uses his legs when he needs to. sure he eats punches at times but its never anything substantial..ggg doesnt really get the opportunity to show more of his boxing ability because his offense has been is so effective..He hasnt fought anyone yet that can bring the best out of him and i dont see anyone in the middleweight division that would be a real test. Alvarez has the best chance of anyone but would need time to settle into the mw division. Cotto would get crushed along with anyone else. The fight i wanna see is him vs chavez jr. If jr can put the mocha almond fudge down and take his training seriously, it would be a great matchup. That fight would be a legit ppv. That would be his true test. However, he still loses on points to Ward.

I don't think people get the purpose of sparring, he is using the round to check Harrisons range, timing and openings. Thats the point of it. Although Golovkin is not as technically superior he has a good skillset and as underwhelming his style, its a different story when your in the ring,It is not too different from Rios or Maidana the latter of which is a contender because of his Punch power. you don't have to be sparkly to make it in sport, this is why the Klitschkos have dominated for so long.

GGG is def haglerish that in itself is great, but he has never a slick boxer that can return fire. His opponents are Taylor made for to be exposed according to his abilities. Tony Harrison was able to land, in spite of the fact or notion that this was a defensive tune up, but GGG still showed the ability to deliver fire; so I can't stamp harrison yet. I'll watch him tonight on FNF, to get a true look. But seriously now that Andre is with a promoter that can expand his brand, we will see if GGG really wants to fight him. SOG is the king, right now a inactive king, but his body of work is impeccable, if GGG wants real Hagerlish recognition, he is going to have challenge him, we will see.
