- Have you ever wondered about what the different dorms are like at Indiana University? Hi, I'm Marisa and I recently graduated from IU this past spring (#IUClassof2021) and wanted to share my perspective on dorm life and the reputations of the different residence halls and neighborhoods. There are 3 main neighborhoods for undergraduate students (North, Central, and South) with different dorms that all have different pros, cons, and types of communities. Make sure to consider factors such as location closeness to your school's buildings, nearby food options, laundry options, cost, living & learning communities, the typical social scene affecting sound at night, or other aspects or amenities. I hope you can figure out what is the best fit for you. Go Hoosiers! :)

As the mom of an incoming freshman- thank you so much for actually talking about the locations and dorms. Several other videos are just girls showing the stuff in their rooms. 😫😊
haha glad I could help!
This was SO freaking helpful cus no one else has broken them all down this well/specifically. thanks!
aw glad it is helpful!
Oh my gosh thank you so much for this video! I’m considering going to IU next year and I’ve been so worried about which dorm I’d be put into
I’m going to IU this fall! Thank you for the info :)
hope you love it!
You still there?
this is so helpful! thank you :) i’m moving there in the fall!
aw good! hope you love it :)
I’m a junior and I would love to go to IUB so I appreciate this :) Thank you!!! Hope I make it in 😅
I lived in Collins for two years, and when I was there (2008-10), it was considered one of the cool dorms to be in. It was probably the most selective of any of them. We were kind of the "alternative" dorm, but we liked it that way. After all, we have a gnome as our mascot. The Hogwarts vibe is very true; there's also a pottery studio inside, if you're into that, and in my opinion, it also has the best library of any of the dorms. I feel like a lot of people misunderstand Collins - it could have been more "mainstream," but it would have lost its charm that way. I heard they're trying to change it to be more mainstream, which would be disappointing to many Collinsites. I was a theatre major, and a few others in the department stayed in Collins as well - it was quieter, and Read's design is too much like a labyrinth. We had a lot of folklore students in there, too.
Also, I believe Collins is technically part of NW neighborhood (it's an easy mistake to make). I don't know if this is officially true anymore, but when it was first built, Collins was built in three sections, two of which were on the other side of Tenth Street towards Kelley and the Geology Building. At the time, I believe anything built on that side was considered Northwest. When I was there, it was considered Northwest on the map, even though the main building you see when you go to campus is closer to the Central neighborhood. Remember that it's on a slight uphill incline when you walk up to it. When I worked as an OL, we liked to trick a lot of the incoming freshmen with that little tidbit. :)
The "Hill" side behind the Geology Building has now been torn down, so that's why I don't know if it still counts as NW neighborhood under the campus maps.
I just got in to IU!!!
Hi! I’ve just been admitted to IUB and I was just getting familiar with the dorm situation
So i’ve heard people say that Walnut Grove is the most happening and social place to live in
I’m not sure if u mentioned about that in the video
Can you suggest me if I should consider that dorm or not?
Hi Marisa, thank you for sharing this, it's so helpful. I am the Mom of a soon to be high school senior who will be applying to IU. Would you mind sharing which dorms you lived in and what your favorite was and why? You and my daughter are very similar. : )
I'm transferring there this fall! this was super helpful thanks! (:
hope you love it!!
Hey, did you like this university? I heard about something that isnt safety 'cause of the boys... iam a internacional student and i was thinking aply next year
@@Mariluluzi there are good things and bad things about it, like any university!
do you tell them about yourself? then get placed with room mates and get assigned a neighborhood?
Hi
I’m going to Indiana university for an internship and Dr Rojo said that we will be staying in willkie.
Is that close to the gym?
Is there a laundry room?
What other things are near willkie?
I was just assigned to a Foster double? Any extra insight you can offer for an incoming freshmen, such as what kind of expectation of privacy there will be, or how the bathrooms/showers will be?
Regardless thanks for the video!
I am not sure what it is like now with COVID restrictions but they have been renovating Foster so hopefully, it is nicer now. I believe they have the shared bathroom situations but remember it's only for a year :) good luck, hope you love it!!
@@marisallogan yeah the bathrooms are shared but it’s not that bad. First 3 weeks here have been nice!
My annoying older sister Morgan is a Junior at Indiana University as an accounting major
Any opinions/thoughts about Ashton Center?
I'm pretty sure that's where they but the quarantined covid people last year lol I don't know much else sorry!
You did not mention the Ashton dorms at all either!
Does Briscoe have triples?
I just graduated from IU in 1985. My recollection is that you need multiple ways to kill all the cockroaches.
What is the best for Luddy students ?
Briscoe Shoemaker...1995 -96...10th floor. We were notorious.
stop reminiscing about the good ol days pal... time to move on
Hi!! What na bout Campus view!n
The nickname you gave to Wright Quad: There is one wing that is all female. The rest is co-ed by floor.
Funny cause I stayed in Forest in '84/'85 and it was an all girls dorm that was nicknamed the virgin vault!!! 😂😂😂
are there any 3 person dorm rooms at IU
I believe so!
They changed the whole food situation, everyone is bad now 😭😭
yikes, sorry to hear that!
nice glasses
thank you
What about Wells?
looks beautiful from the outside! never been inside but I heard it is nice
best dorm imo
what r ur thoughts about northeast dorms
could be good depending on your classes!
u mean the ones off of north jordan ave?
You forgot Wells Quad
You're right!! My bad, I've never been in it but I do know one person who lived there and they liked it. Great location!
Damn is wright really that bad
I just got assigned wright it can’t be that bad lol hopefully 🤞
My daughter graduated from IU a few years ago, my son will be a Freshman this Fall - he’s going to be in Wright - which has great food. The university assigns students to their dorm so I wouldn’t be quick to judge based on the dorms.
People will shit on Wright just to shit on it. Yeah the room quality is shitty but you’ll meet your best friends there, big food court right there, and great location on campus. Had an amazing time there
Yep lmaoooooo no air conditioning good luck freshman
It’s fucking terrible
lets be real, dorms suck period.
The physical dorms: yes, the people: hopefully no
Nah Read is really really bad was a freshman living there last year
Hey ! Is Read really haunted ?
@@033future HAHAHA my led lights would always go crazy and go on different colors but other than that nope!
@@chrisderienzo3740 OK 😅
@@033future c616 miss the room already lol have fun next year
@@chrisderienzo3740 Haha I plan to go after covid !
