Hey Didtra, I too love 💕 this version! Sadly not on Spotify. I’m singing along right now! Check out my original soulful pop music on Spotify, Tower of Power & Phil Collins Keyboarders on my cds 💿 Best From Germany!
I remember hearing this song, on the radio, late nights during the "Quiet Storm" when I was like 15 years old, and I absolutely loved it. I would literally stay up until they played it, which wasn't often. So, imagine how I felt when I found it on CZcams after 20 some odd years of not hearing it!? I've listened to it an unhealthy amount of times!!!!
Heard this on the radio ONCE....back in 97 when I was 17. Recorded it off the radio and played the shit out of it all summer. I had no idea where it came from and thought it was the best thing ever. I love how soulful and airy it is. Imagine my surprise when I found out later on it was on a soundtrack to the Olympic games of all things.
I was in Atlanta for the 1996 Olympics and this song came on in a record shop. I remember running to the check out desk and snatching up this CD. Played it to death when I got back to the UK. Haven't seen the album in years so it was good to come across this track today.
Didn’t expect to enjoy this, but lmao Mary dug deeply into her emotions and extraordinarily gives us a Chaka perspective with the tastiest Mary flavorings! I’m in ❤️. It’s sweet.
Man I love this lady. She tore this song up. She said in the interview with her and Chaka Kahn, that this was one of the hardest songs she has ever had to sing...lol. At the end of the video of her and Chaka Kahn singing this song together, she told Chaka, that was a hard song...lol. She commended Chaka on her making this song. I love Mary J. and Chaka Kahn
@@truthteller0785 .thank you. I read that shit and thought this woman is typing lies..how many interviews does Mary and Chaka have together...and this song was quickly buried during its day...the lies.
Mary j said rapper Trina need to work on her hygiene in take better care of it cuzz she was smelling very wrong that it was so bad the smell was eating through air freshener expensive air freshener
remember I randomly taped this off the radio summer of 1996. It was playing on the morning radio show (back when the radio used to play hot shit)....totally out of the blue. never knew where it came from, and never heard it ever again. i still have that mix tape. Jay-Z's "Ain't No Nigga" comes on right after this lol. always reminds me of late 1996/early 97, best time of my life.
She's always been a Chaka fan and this is the 2nd remake she's done of hers(Sweet Thing) from What's the 411 is also a Chaka remake for you young bucks who didn't know.😂I love MJB but nobody outsings Chaka!
I grew up listening to this song by Chaka Khan being played over and over again in my house. And I think Mary did a great job on doing her song. As someone else said you can't remake a song unless u have approval to do so. And I'm pretty sure Chaka loved it. So for all the haters, hate one something else. Cause this song is and will always be the bomb.
OK I like this version. Good job Mary and thank you for staying in your lane and not do too much in singing this song. Gives me the "What's the 411?/My Life" vibes
Mary really complements Chaka's songs, Since has sung so many songs by her in the past. If anybody can sing Chaka's songs and do it justice. It's Mary.
Mary has so much soul and emotion in her voice that it will always resonate with the listener. You got to give props to Rufus and Chaka for the original, but when Mary jumps on a remake, she will in all likelihood outdo the standard like she did here. Check Mary's catalogue she's made countless covers better than the original.💯
@artafootman most times when Mary remakes a song it's because she grew up listening to it or there are memories that come with the song. We all remake and cover songs in our cars daily. she's not trying to "own" Chaka's song . she's paying Homage and she more than likely was approved to do a cover. that will be all.
She did a nice job I know my girl Chaka is proud she made it her own and it is def not the same but it’s slowed down and pretty. I’m a Chaka fan til the death . But no shade to Mary I like her too .she did a good job . I play them back to back now
@officiallylovell Totally agree mary is without any doubt the greatest RnB performer, singer she gives 110%,just check out her stats no one comes close.
She can do justice to this song today!!! She can hit those high notes at the end. Well, not like Chaka, but better than this. She should definitely do an album of cover songs, including re-recordings of her past covers, except "Sweet Thing". She already put her stamp on that one.
Notice how Mary didn't even TRY to hit the same pitch of Chaka Khan on the falcetto part of the song...she stayed right in her lane. I respect Mary, but it's ludicrous to suggest that she sang the song better than the original. Chaka is the best to ever do it, hands down.
@MrJuly1990ish I think she should do "Caught Up in The Rapture", since that was the song she recorded which got her the Uptown Records deal. I do agree with her doing 70's & 80's songs, especially Philly hits by Gamble and Huff!! That would be HOT!!!! She definitely shares the quality with Whitney of being able to cover a song and make it her own. Whitney did so many covers that people didn't even know had prior versions, like "Saving All My Love", "All The Man I Need", and others.
I love how Mary sang it on her own vocal range. Love Mary and her voice and style of remakes. She admires Chaka Khan and gave her props. But to say Mary sounds better than Chaka, is a opinion. Must be a 20-30ish young person.
I've searched high and low for this song, i love this remake. Mary really has her own style of music
Yes she my girl is badd
Same here, couldn’t even find it on Spotify.
Hey Didtra, I too love 💕 this version! Sadly not on Spotify. I’m singing along right now! Check out my original soulful pop music on Spotify, Tower of Power & Phil Collins Keyboarders on my cds 💿 Best From Germany!

This is Mary J's ABSOLUTE BEST VOCAL PERFORMANCE EVER!!!!!!. One of the sultriest vocal deliveries in HISTORY
Beautiful>>>
AGREED!
Chaka Khans left untouched .
I finally found this song. I have not heard it since 1996.
Can someone please explain why this song gives me so much life...everlasting? How ironic is that?
I love This
Gives me chills...I will replay this song a concerning amount of times. Especially the last verse 😍😍😍😫😫😫

Yeah I remember Wendy Williams playing this on Hot 97 and saying "new music from Mary J Bligggge" then the beat drop and I flipped out. So smooth.
This song...Mary's vocals...just takes you to another place that feels so good!!
All jokes aside Mary j bilge was at her best in 1996 best era ever
In still is she workin on her new album called undisputed queen of hip hop soul
I love both Mary and Chaka two Queens 👸🏾👸🏾
Never heard this version...Good Job Mary🙂
good job Mary I have always liked her remakes❤💚💛
Mary's finest......my absolute favorite song in all music
The intro to this song is so beautiful, so peaceful ❤️
I lived for this soundtrack. I will search it on Spotify. This is the first version I ever heard. I later discovered Chaka Khan's original. Amazing
Oh really? So Vanessa Williams covered it also

I love this song! Beautiful like her heart and soul. We need this Mary back!

Mary did a great job!! You can't compare artist or talent. All are different; not better or worse. Mary pulled this one off!!!!

This is her 3 cover she did ain’t nobody too
I had the olympics soundtrack that this song was featured on, and this song really stood out. 💛
I’m still here. 10 yrs now I think. Can’t get enough of this
❤❤❤❤gettem mary
The original song brought me here. Awesome remake!
I grew up listening to this song by Chaka Khan being played over and over again in my house. And I think Mary did a great job on doing her song. As someone else said you can't remake a song unless u have approval to do so. And I'm pretty sure Chaka loved it. So for all the haters, hate one something else. She certainly did her own thing with it. Chaka's obviously owned it but Mary put her mary touch on it. Love both.
love my Chaka version...maybe in a few years more Mary will be seasoned enough I am sure. She is o.k. and courageous I must say!
Empiezo el día escuchando la tu canción, ❤😊 espectacular, gracias saludos Giuseppe Mallorca España
Feliz Navidad a todos
OK I like this version. Good job Mary and thank you for staying in your lane and not do too much in singing this song. Gives me the "What's the 411?/My Life" vibes
She made Chaka Khan! Love this remix from Mary! God Bless!
this is so beautiful by MJB I love when she sings in her lower register!
I wore this version out when I had it on a disc.

She tore that shit up
Only saying she did a wonderful job.2019
Ok I usually clown Mary for always remaking other people songs. But I have to admit she did a good job on this classic.
Mary j Blige is the greatest soul singer of from the 90s
The best song
brava Mary J. Blige .
Mary really complements Chaka's songs, Since has sung so many songs by her in the past. If anybody can sing Chaka's songs and do it justice. It's Mary.
I never heard this but she sounds amazing. 💘 me some Mary J. Blige.
mary did a good job, she always do good covers, she should make a album of covers
very inspiring and profound version of this Rufus classic. Mary is the best at this !

prityricky1 . You better preach!!
You are absolutely right
prityricky1 Gurl, you smoking crack again! Making a statement like that, I can only imagine your character and how you live....mess
I like Mary, but to say she out did Chaka, it shows that one knows nothing about music.
Let's just talk about range. Chaka brings this to the stratosphere; Mary still grounded!
my all time favorite artist and songs!

She did a nice job I know my girl Chaka is proud she made it her own and it is def not the same but it’s slowed down and pretty. I’m a Chaka fan til the death . But no shade to Mary I like her too .she did a good job . I play them back to back now
Her second remake of one of Chaka Khan's classics. Chaka Khan is real proud of this lady.
