The only reason why the Namibian roads are ranked no 1, is that there are very few heavy trucks on the roads and their dirt roads are mostly built on salty soils which do not disintegrate under heavy traffic.

Tanzania has in recent years done a great job on road network. The country is fully connected with tarmac roads and urban roads have had major improvement to match the level of traffic.

I wonder who is that person who has traveled on more than 750 000 km of roads, with 15 National Roads that connects all coners of South Africa, as well as Provincial roads that connects cities, towns and villages of South Africa, and came to the conclusion that we are number 6. Every year, there massive projects that costs billions of dollars to improve the reads and build new ones. Proudly South African 🇿🇦

I have driven all over South Africa, and many trips between Durban and Cape Town using both the N2 and the N3 joining the NI through Harrismith. Also between O R Tambo International Airport and Hammanskraal. From my experience no way is South Africa number 6 in best roads in Africa.
The problem is the municipalities and provinces where the ignorant and corrupt suckers are not maintaining the roads and other infrustructure, even though there are allocated budgets. Comrades takes all to their pockets. I have traveled all over South Africa that I would avoid some of the regional routes for national ones and I recommend that SANRAL be given more money and be given powers to take over most of the provincial and municipal roads because they are championing this cause together with the Western Cape government. I am so disappointed with the lack of maintenance of provincial and municipal roads in MP, NW, FS, EC and LP. I keep wondering why the mayors and premiers are not that bothered by this backwardness. Mzansi was second to Namibia by a 0.2 score margin in 2021. Then in 2022,it was pushed further back to number 6 and it is all because of the politicians who had opted not to maintain the roads that fall under their jurisdictions. We are still to move further backwards in terms of the quality of roads, unless we put leaders and not politicians in power, for some people are not leaders, but pure politicians with messed up mindsets. The country will however keep leading the continent in terms of the the distances that our roads cover as well as when it comes to road connectivity index. The video is about the quality and not how much of roads each country has. Also do remember that Namibia has just built their roads and they are less than 10 years old. They were assisted by SANRAL as well. Many of the countries that ranked higher than Mzansi in 2022 is as a result of newly developed and the constant dedication in the maintenance of their roads. Our ANC guys in many municipalities have really dropped the ball and I so wish for better leaders in many parts of our land because hey "politics of the stomach" had really been a serious drag. The positive side of all these is that, we still have a great foundation and all is needed is to deliver on services and keep our infrustructure intact or else our children's children will inherit a messed up country that will be a laughing stock, especially to many who wish for Mzansi to fail. So, don't stress about the rank for Mzansi is way ahead when it comes to infrustructure, but worry about a need to have proper leadership at a local government level. That's where the state capture is taking place because comrades can be incompetent and greedy.

I'm a Ugandan Living in South Africa, but can c not believe that South Africa is number 6. South Africa road network is one of the best in Africa. Evr Even during world cup 291 it was praised for having a good road network. Aowa, South Africa can not be no. 6 for real.

South African roads are in a dilapidated condition especially the provincial and municipal roads are full of millions of potholes coz of neglect! It’s only national roads that are in good condition but if SA continues this way, very soon it will be knocked out of the top 10 position as far as quality roads are concerned! Initially SA was number 2 in Africa but now it’s down to number 6 and that’s coz of their crumbling infrastructure!

Because the state is implementing a comprehensive economic and developmental reform for the country, although it is very harsh, but we are bearing fruit later. Our roads have been so bad comedians started jokingly telling people to go and catch Nile Perch and tilapia from the water filled gulleys in the roads when it rains. Government has then offered some money for repairs to the city roads at least. It's a shame.
