  • After much research the DK2 Stump Grinder seems to be highest rated and best "portable" stump grinder. I put it to the test with a 34" Oak stump and then a 16"-18" Pine stump.

    One of the most useful videos I've found. We had a bunch of trees taken down, and I have probably around 30 stumps. Most pine and cottonwood, but some tougher hardwoods. It would cost about as much to have the stumps removed as it did to clear the trees so I was looking a doing it myself. I am in good(ish) shape for my age, but I am definitely taking your advice to heart. 3-point it is!

    You normally check the engine oil level EVERYTIME you use a machine with a small engine, yellow tags or no yellow tags.

    What a fantastic review and example of how it works. Thanks for the time you spent doing it. I'm struggling on if I should buy or rent one. I don't have an overwhelming amount to remove, but I would be nice to have one on hand when needed and can do in my own time. The 3 point versions seem to be the most attractive to me and there isn't an additional engine to maintain. I hesitate to invest in one....one big reason is I know many people who would be wanting me to come over and take care of all their stumps. Maybe renting would be the best!

      Think you! $1500 to buy this or $2600 to buy a standard 3 point I would definitely go 3 point. The fancy 3 points that are more maneuvrable run $7000 though, much nicer but not sure it's worth the cost unless you are making money with it. I'm being told $500 to rent a hydraulic grinder for a day where i live so I'll probably buy a 3pt.

      @@rednecktech82 When we rented a stump grinder a few yrs ago, I believe it was less than $300 for the day. We kept it working for 9 1/2 hours non stop.

    Are the rear tires self-propelled or do you have to push it manually

      Manual...that's what makes it such a bear to move around and use.

    This is an old vid I know, but is the stump grinder heavy to lift and maneuver? Looks like it would tire you out moving it around.

    • @rednecktech82
      @rednecktech82  Před rokem

      Not so bad wheeling it around but it's a bear to use as you're tipping it back and slowly lowering it into the stump and pivoting it aroundas it works...so you're holding the weight of the machine there.

      Despite a couple jerk comments that were put on here I do work out regularly lol and do a lot of cardio running 5 to 10 miles a day, that being said I found it very tiresome but in all fairness I was also grinding oak stumps that were 50" plus across. I don't imagine it would be near as bad for small quick stumps.
