I had a credit card that I ran up about 5-6 years ago that I haven't paid off yet. They first sent me a letter stating I could pay it off with X amount of money which was less than what I actually owe. I never responded and kept getting letters every three months with each letter becoming less and less they wanted from me. My plan is to get to a point where they just completely stop sending me letters and leave me alone. I owe 2 grand and the last letter they sent they were willing to take 379$... I'm almost there boys I'm almost there.
I would take the current offer. It could be the last one before they resell it to another collector. Also, you need to get the terms in writing and don't agree until then. Some will say they can't and you kindly tell them to kick rocks until you get it in writing. Lastly, don't agree until they agree to remove the collections from both major credit bureaus.

This reminds me of when I used to get regular calls from India with them trying to sell me stuff. I had made a one time purchase and they thought they would just keep calling me every week for months or a year or so. The funny thing is I just became best friends with the guy. When he would call I knew I was never buying anything again and I think he knew it after a few times, so I would just be like "Hey, whats up man? Hows it going? Hows life?" and we became really good friends and would have 30 to 40 minute long deep conversations about life. I think he enjoyed it because it's better than just going through the cold calling list he had, and I enjoyed it because I always love taking what would normally be a negative experience like a spam call, and turning it into a positive one. I wonder what that guy is up to today. I wonder if I still have his number somewhere.

When I was trying to pass my character and fitness test for the state bar they specifically ask if you owe taxes etc and I owed a shit ton so I had to call the IRS and explain I owed like a ten year old tax debt and the guy on the phone was confused because they had long since moved on. The irs guy basically asked me why I was calling them it’s a decade old. I was trying to do the right thing

If you owe debt just wait it out. I owed like $6K for a repossessed vehicle when I was like 20. Well the original debtor kept selling the debt to other companies and they kept hitting me up with lower amounts I owed. It finally got down to $1,000 and I payed it.

It isn’t when you go to sell a house that old debts will come out of the woodwork - it’s when you go to buy one. The hard inquiry by a mortgage or finance company will trigger judgment-holders to believe you may now have adequate assets to make a significant purchase. They will either start trying to hit you up for the money again, or, perfect their judgment into a lien secured against any non-exempt real property you own - putting it at risk of foreclosure without repayment.
