      Thanks. It's been an interrupted year so far. The time we put aside to do the GPZ has been eaten up by the pandemic and other commitments.
      We're both hoping we can kick start the project again soon once we both find the time again.

    I'm just about to embark on a GPZ restore myself. At the moment it's everything BUT the engine, but one day I hope to learn enough to be able to do the engine.
    Keep the videos coming please - they're really helpful!!

      Are you guys part of the GPZZone forum already? I'm sure they'd like to see it.
      Having just taken the carbs out of my A2 and attempting to produce a video like yours, I really do appreciate how long these things take. Just getting them out took me a while!!
      Are you planning to do any carb related videos?

      If it's anything like this engine, for the love of God "don't strip it" worst thing you could do is disturb a beautifully bedded in engine like this one! Utter sacrilege and a road to an earlier than would have been engine demise.

    I've got a first gen GPZ900, needed a rough outline of the actual clutch replacement and a couple torque specs. Unfortunately in your videos you completely ship disassembly of the clutch assembly. You'd probably get a good amount of views if you covered a complete clutch removal, inspection, and installation because currently there are not any videos available of the process, aside from one I watched that is only in Spanish. Just a thought, Thanks!

      Ah sorry I didn't film this step. I took apart and checked everything but the camera wasn't rolling. There's a ton of deep dives I could have done but I just didn't have the time.
      The bike got completed and sold but COVID stopped filming in our tracks.
      Would love to kick start this channel again.

    Never mind the work that went into the tear down, the work that went into the filming and editing is immense! Well done Rob.
    Prior to tear down would you have done a compression or leakdown test? Or once torn down, would you have used a micrometer and bore gauge on the piston, cylinder? I'm about to embark on a top-end refresh on my KTM 990...the manual calls for all of the above. Steep learning curve ahead!
    All the best.

    • @FixRideExplore
      @FixRideExplore  Před 3 lety

      Thanks Darren. Appreciate the comment. I'm not sure how many people would know how much longer filming and editing adds to the job.
      I did both. If you can do a compression test says so much and this engine was good. Once apart it would have been rude not to check the rings gaps and condition followed by a good going over with a bore guage. I didn't see anything I was worried about when I inspected it.
      A few of the valves had slightly more carbon build-up but the valve seals had seen better days so they all got replaced when checking the valve seats.

      @@FixRideExplore Hi Rob, hope you're keeping well?
      What micrometer set and leakdown kit do you use?
      I'm looking at Mitutoyo for micrometer...quite expensive but seem very reliable. And for leakdown, I'm looking at the Motion Pro tester, though it only has one gauge, so I'm not quite sure how that works. Thanks.

    • @FixRideExplore
      @FixRideExplore  Před 3 lety

      @@darrenoconnor3402 I have a mix of makes for my measurements and for all of my tools. I would balance your spend on how much you're going to use it and what's fit for purpose.
      You can go high end and buy with some confidence or read a load of reviews and find something that's more than good enough for a fraction of the price. I wouldn't want to recommend anything as it's been years since I've bought a micrometer and mine aren't the most expensive.
      Gucci jeans aren't always better than Levis but they're always more expensive.

    Great videos, fingers crossed you finish the project. Can you give me an idea of how much of a mortgage I would need if I was to go to my local Kawasaki dealer and ask them to do the same for my GPZ that hasn't moved for 15yrs. My wife thinks I should just sell it for parts, I've had the bike longer than we have been married.

      Hey R B hope all is well.
      Yes it's been a while but the lockdowns meant we couldn't get together to continue the bike. We'd planned on getting it done long before now but the delays caused by covid have meant we now have other commitments we need to finish first.
      Day jobs and other things are currently in the way but the build will continue. It's just had to be postponed for a short while.

Excellent quality when it was going. It's mid 2023.
