I belong to a group of people who collect, restore, and often make garments from sewing patterns from as early as they can be found. The formalwear from the 1930s is amazing. Seriously, Hollywood designers of today should take a look at these classics. The gowns are gorgeous, classy, sexy with NO body parts inappropriately exposed. Even the daywear is lovely.
O so Hugo Boss 😂
Yes! That! I personally love the women's fashion of the early 1900s, and have a lot of items in my wardrobe that have that same vibe.
The past was more than murderous corsets and boring men's suits (quite the contrary). Many decades had so much elegance without sexualising.
(Coming from someone with a degree in fashion) Fashion shows are no longer about fashion, they’re about wasting fabric to make the most ridiculous or ugly looking things for the sake of shock value.
@writeme581 *_LIES!!!_*
well modern art in a nutshell
Those resources should be more carefully used
@@necrotenkiwongwat2359as an artist, fr
As observer i can tell it's not only about scrapping materil into one, but also completely dehumanisating the models that are there to wear it. There was even " Pinky and the Brain" episode that was directly showing what these shows are about - the model just comes in wearing decent and moest dress and next she's being given a torn up one with weathered colours.
Fashion has literally become a horror show.
Fr, average Freaky Friday film more normal than this sh*t
Lol
The more bizarre narcissists dress. The more fashionable, they think they are
Halloween has come early it seems with fashions shows
Fashion was mostly meant for that. But as some point it actually started to turn out this way. With those models being reduced to "living hangers".
These designs reminds me me of an episode of I LOVE LUCY. Where Ricky and Fred were making fun of the fashions Lucy and Ethel were into and as a joke made them outfits made of potato sacks and ice buckets. Lucy and Ethel found out and got rid of the outfits and in the end the designer made outfits that looked like what Lucy and Ethel were wearing.
I JUST saw that episode for the first time last week 😂 It was GREAT!
Sounds plausible but these fashion designers are just C grade graduates. Incompetent people need to eat too. Unfortunately.
No doubt they/them luv lucifer. Tc.
Love that show so much. I'm middle-aged (35), but grew up watching good classic movies and shows! You know, back before everything had to include disgusting sex scenes, cussing & all that.
I remember my grandmother in a story my mom told me, where they'd gone to see a movie made about WW2, Patton, and it had a part where "GD" was used (can't type it out, I'm Christian) so she gets up visibly upset & disgusted (if she'd seen what movies are like now, oh boy) wanting to leave, saying "George, let's leave" then grandpa puts his hand on her shoulder & says "Sit down, Ruth!" and she did just that.
Normally he'd have walked out, but to him it was special, having been on the frontlines.
R.I.P. grandma, she passed in 2007 at 93yo. Can't imagine being so old... But then again, seems like yesterday I was a teen... To anyone young, yes, your elders are correct in saying time passes faster as you age, so don't put things off!
@@TheZephyrsWindyeah, movies now are worse. TBH, I don't mind so much...as long as it's not too bad. I do respect people who avoid modern movies do to their content, (I'm a Christian, I see the moral issues with supporting Hollywood) but I really would rather just ignore it. It's sad to see some movies that get ruined by....ahem ....content. I watched Oppenheimer. I wasnt offended by it's sex scenes, although I didn't like them. It was important to the movie, but it was unfortunate that the real Oppenheimer was like that and therefore that he is portrayed like that.
This is what happens in a world where 'subverting' and 'shocking' is more important than 'aspiring' and 'achieving'.
Thierry Mugler fashion shows in the 90s. They are way more shocking and aspiring at the same time. Fashion has always been achieving the eye of a consumer, and it will continue to do so.
Oppenheimer is actually a good movie, very interesting and fascinating
I agree 100% with you! I studied fashion design in college after having enjoyed Home Economics in High School (aside from technical interests). My friends all loved being unique by making our own dresses by planning, drawing, choosing fabrics and experimenting with our sewing machines in our teens and later in our 20's! I made my own dresses, suits, elegant ballroom gowns, made everything for fun and artistic expression (also using Vogue patterns)! Later, these hand skills and planning, designing, analytical skills became more valuable and taught me industriousness, style, culture and small business experience! The joy of making and wearing an artfully designed dress is wonderful... and imitation of that design is the best complement! Today.... I would never want to wear anything that I've seen walki g down a modern runway (let alone want to copy it) as most look depraved, mentally deficient, depressing and disturbing (in a very bad sense). FASHION ALWAYS REFLECTS THE PERIOD OF TIME WE LIVE IN. TODAY LIFE IS DEPRESSIVE, DARK, SINISTER, AND OPRESSIVE UNDER A MARXIST WEF STYLE! BIDEN'S CRIMINAL STYLE ADMINISTRATION IS EVIL TOO!
I agree with you completely.
I am a seamstress, and I have been studying fashion history. Fashion today is so cheap and disappointing. They don't even try to make high-quality clothes anymore in everyday fashion and on the runway. No class or elegance. Fashion is not the same anymore.
Mildly irrelevant, but have you heard of the book “The Lost Art of Dress”?
Yeah! The 90's was the best time to be alive. We took it for granted. I believe it was the height of society. You are right that everything has gone downhill since.
I think you would change your mind about the best time to be alive if you grew up in the seventies.
Seeing the models going down the runway and everybody in the audience clapping, reminds me of the hunger game costumes and vibe.
You nailed it...nobody wears these pieces. The ready to wear shows are the clothes people wear. The big shows are to show the designers creativity
Yes. Unfortunately I'm not surprised she holds this opinion, but I'll never get how people have no understanding of this very simple concept. She should watch at least one modern ready-to-wear show from Versace or something.
Thank you! Clearly she didn't do her due diligence and decipher the difference between pret-a-porter and haute couture! Irks me!
Couture shows of the past did indeed present beautiful clothes.
There is nothing artistic about this ugly crap lmaooo
Show the creativity of what?😐.....they literally wasting fabric designing "outfits" that the person whose a tree in a theatre play would wear. They should show their creativity in the ACTUAL clothes they make😂
If you haven't already, check out people faking their way to the top of fashion week in the ugliest and cheapest outfits. It's hilarious how the top dogs in the fashion world don't know what they are doing

i dont care about the fashion world, but i will say this- WEAR CLOTHES THAT FIT! there are clothes designed and cut specifically for smaller women like Brett, and i see people the size of Lizzo try to wear it. im not fat shaming or weight shaming. if im shaming anything, its your choice in clothing. being dressed is more than simply covering your hoo-hoo!
Yes!!! Coming from a fat chick, it's disgusting to see fatties in tight shirts and leggings. No every kind of clothes is made to be worn on every body type. I often have people tell me I don't look as fat as I really am because I use colors and looser flowing fabrics that compliment my phisique.

I've always thought that I had no sense of fashion. And looking at "fashion" now I am pretty happy about that.
It's just a sign of the times. All art, whether it be music, film, fashion, literature, has to include some level of subversion or deconstruction. You can't just appreciate something for its beauty anymore, it's got to say something about society-at-large, or it's it's got to have a bunch of stunts and performative gimmicks to be worth it.
I only wear 1940s/1950s/1960s reproduction clothing - super feminine and fun! This was a time when femininity was celebrated and a woman was excited to get dressed up and feel beautiful.
I love watching old TV shows for this reason - the costumes. And also TV shows about past decades of 20 century. I love "Murdoch mysteries" becouse of those fashion - I esp love men fashion from those times.
I swear these videos always come out at the best times. I don’t know how 😅
Fr, I just finished my workout and was rewarded with a comment section video 😅
gotta disagree on oppenheimer not being beautiful. it deals with a serious and complex part of history, sure. but the soundtrack and the visuals are beautiful. and there’s a montage towards the start of the film that just takes your breath away-it shows oppenheimer as he’s learning at Oxford and you see the beauty of science and art through his eyes.
Right, the thing that makes it depressing is the politics, as in everything else. Oppenheimer and many others wants to and should've been able to convey the greatness of natural principles for the sake of advancement of humanity only and those swines makes it all about their depraved greeds only.
It also makes a headache other than the physics and Oppenheimer's lobbying-moves part.
I agree with this. It might seem as depressing but it’s historical and it’s amazing😅
Great point

I wouldn't be surprised if some of these fashion designers know this stuff looks like crap and are just competing with each other to see who can make the most ridiculous outfit.

Welcome to Postmodern art where *everything* is considered art therefore *nothing* is art.
The fashion industry has always been strange.
I once heard "if someone tells you they are crazy, take their word for it." All of this is that expression at scale.
Not just runway fashion but ALL art leans this way now. Sad, dark, lifeless, shock value. Lacking all real talent. True beauty and art is inspired by nature and by God’s amazing design and creativity.
The world’s always been dark, Oppenheimer is very much worth seeing in theaters

Thinking about Cristóbal Balenciaga closing his fashion house in 1968 because he thought his time in fashion was over.
A lot of those dresses would still be modern to this day, very simplistic, sophisticated and elegant
the 90s was peak, culturally, and no one will ever convince me otherwise. everything was so effortless and effervescent. everyone romanticizes the decade they grew up in, but the 90s were different 😅
Hi Brett love your channel ❤
I'd definitely watch a runway show featuring brett
Brett and her team put so much work into these videos. this is why we love brett so much
Too much
I love her too.
I always thought fashion shows were just art shows not something that people would actually wear 🤷♀️
I hope brett makes a video about creepy guys in the her comment section
I’d rather tear out my brain stem, carry it into the nearest 4 way intersection and skip rope with it, than watch these fashion shows.
The Balenciaga show looked like someone scooped up all the San Francisco junkies and gave them $50 to walk a fashion show. And you’re spot on about the balloon show 😂😂😂
Aliens: "we're here to take over your planet! Take us to your...." *looks around.
Aliens: "You know what, never mind. We uh... got the wrong address"
The second video was actually an intentional show by the two designers Victor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren in order for them to illustrate how people sitting at front rows in luxury fashion shows are more busy in recording the runway rather than actually enjoying the scenic beauty a show might present. The distorted placement of the gowns is actually a symbol of the disturbed attention of its viewers and the harm that it is doing to the concept of beauty. It is no more about truly beautiful and wearable pieces but about clothing that gives others a shock if it is posted on your story or feed.
Brett....as much of a book nerd as u are, and the fact that Oppenheimer is based on a book and our history, I'm shocked u won't go see the movie. It brings up a lot of thought provoking ideas. It's much more influential than Barbie lol
It's. Just. A. Movie. Not even a particularly good one since it fails to give proper depth to the titular character. And for thought provoking ideas she's way better off watching anime or something. F***ing Naruto is 10x more thought provoking than Oppenheimer.
@@thenonexistinghero lol okay angry anime bro. I forgot anime obviously compares to a historical American biopic in every way. You don't have to like Oppenheimer I'm just more surprised she won't even see it but spent money on the Barbie movie lol.
@@eliseh3362 You mentioned thought provoking, not historical. And for history you're better off with documentaries or reading up about it. Oppenheimer is a movie. Made for money. With lots and lots of historical inaccuracies. It's not like that Sound of Freedom movie which was made in cooperation with the person who actually went through it all.
@@thenonexistingheroso you need the movie production team to summon the guy himself using edo-tensei lmao
@@thenonexistinghero I actually did mention it being historical. Read again. I watched the movie 2 times and thought that the dichotomies between the politicians and scientists of the day were incredibly interesting. And every movie has inaccuracies, it's called artistic liberties. Sound of freedom is not exempt from inaccuracies. Have you seen Oppenheimer??? I'd suggest watching Ben Shapiros video on it, very interesting. It's not a perfect movie, but I really enjoyed it

The polo Ralph Lauren fall collections in the 90s is probably one of if not the greatest fashion shows ever and a definitely much better than the insipid trash we see today

My friend is going to college for fashion and I really hope she's able to change some stuff. Lately it's all crazy. 😅
Fashion Shows used to be about fashion and clothes and in a way, "a walking art exhibit". Now they are just art exhibits claiming to be fashion and clothes.
It's because after Zoolander was released, Mugatu actually gained sentience and came out of the movie. He now sits as the Cartel leader over all fashion designers.
😂😂😂😂
"Derelict" my balls 🤔
Our world is slowly becoming The Hunger Games, Terminator, and Independence Day combined 😅
Well every industry jumps the shark from time to time, fashion just likes to be the most extreme about it apparently. Also don't skip on Oppenheimer, it's not a depressing film at all, rather a great biopic and character drama.
Vintage Balenciaga is amazing have a lot of 1920-1970 balenciaga pieces from my grandmother. They used to be a really nice brand

Movie recommendation for Brett:
Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris.
Not only was older fashion better, but so were the women. They had curves, they embodied the nature feminine body. The model's weren't anorexic and disconcertingly skinny like the models are now. As a woman, I want the wide hips and small waists to come back- that's what it means to be a female!!
Not sure when you were talking about, but these high-fashion shows always had superskinny women as far as I remember. I think it goes back to at least the 70's.
Some of us don’t have that shape… we’re still feminine.
Somebody wasn't paying attention and apparently totally missed the "heroin chiq" look of models in the 90s-2000s.

My wife used to buy clothes in Paris from the ready to wear range of the fashion houses. They looked like the ones on the runway in the 1990s. You really could wear what was on the runway. I wore classic Bristish suits.
Most recently I have been going to London after many years and look at people on the London Underground going to work. No men wear suits, women wear training shoes with a summer dress. Everybody looks a mess. Nobody cares. Its no wonder fashion is lost. I do try to be up to date with my fashion. No longer wear a suit but still classic casual smart clothes. My boss wears trainers and grungy shapeless trousers and a washed out shirt. We are in charge of literally one of the most important services the UK has. Without us people would die. It feels like a parallel universe.
Yes when I was younger I was in a fashion show for a bridal fashion show in my local town and it was dresses that women would wear as a wedding dress or for the brides maids. I was put in cute flower girl dresses for it. Now a days for that same bridal fashion show the dresses are all super weird and don't really look like things you would want to wear for your wedding.
Got to say if ever I went to one of todays fashion shows, I would end up being thrown out.....because I would I would be laughing so much. 🤣
The devolution of beauty and the descent into hell.

I'm 28 years old and I didn't know there was ever a time when fashion shows were normal.
I believe they are somewhat rebooting the VS fashion show. It’s called like Tour ‘23 with four designers and Doha Cat singing
Credit where credit is due eli saab's autumn collection from this year (a month ago) is gorgeous. Id wear pretty much every dress from that collection. Give it a watch for some hope for fashion beauty.
I always wondered the context behind these weird fashion show dresses. Is there some person somewhere who went to fashion school and paid like $100,000 for their education who graduated and got rewarded with one dress onto a fashion show, and it was a weird balloon thing that doesn't sell, and they live the rest of their lives in poverty paying off fashion student loans while working as a waiter/waitress in France? Or do the same successful fashion designers who make stuff that people actually buy also make the weird balloon dresses? Are fashion shows like a sport, where one point is awarded to originality, so every designer has to have one crazy thing on every show? Is there intentional humor in it?
Brett should make her own fashion show
Brett cooper with the ending cheese smile lol 😆 classic thats a serious crest smile lol looking great cooper!
Sometimes I think it's just a grift, with the designers all betting on what they can get away with before everyone shuts it down and pulls their funding.
I couldn't agree more with the title. It's almost like the high end or the further up you go, the more stupid decisions are made for some reason. 😂 At least when it comes to these high end companies.
