    I use to own a 1975 road Runner mine had a 400 4 bbl with duel exhaust with a automatic it was the best engine you could get in the car it had lots of options too. I got it from my uncle he bought it used in 1977 and owned it till he gave it to me for my 16 birthday because as a kid I use to love it so he gave it too me and I had it till 2010 and sold the car that was in bad shape but I kept the 400 and 727TF out of it.

      I've been reading a lot about those smogger era 400s, and they're amazing engines. The bottom end on those things is stronger than any of the big block Mopars other than the Hemi. You can stroke then to 451 or 512 cubic inches too. Definitely keep it.

    • @TheCarFarm
      @TheCarFarm  Před rokem +1

      This one's a 360. But, we do have a 400 somewhere special....wonder what we're going to do with that setup? Hmmm

    • @JK-sc8th
      @JK-sc8th Před rokem +1

      @@TheCarFarm I'd totally keep the 360! It looks kind speedy with the 4bbl tunnel ram and headers. It probably has a cam too. Although I'm willing to bet that it's the totally wrong cam for that tunnel ram setup. That said I think if you got it running right and got it to a dyno just to see what it does you'd be in the 300-325hp range. With some fine tuning, some head work, and getting all the parts to work together in harmony, I wouldn't be surprised if you managed to get 400hp out of it. 400 horsepower for 400 dollars sounds like a fun challenge!

    • @TheCarFarm
      @TheCarFarm  Před rokem +3

    I bought a 1975 Dodge Charger for $185 in 1994. Blue on blue with a 225 slant and a 3 speed auto. Slow as hell and not very good on gas.
    Very similar car, the only difference I can see is the position of the front turn signals. Mine were located in the bumper below the single round headlights.

      A guy here locally had one out back of his house under one of those plastic temp canopy storage areas. I just saw it last week on my way down to a small engine shop to get filters for my tractors. Its all in Primer sitting next to a 71 or 72 Fury car now all in primer. The Fury must have been behind the Charger car. I think the guy must pull em inside during the winters and work on em because they were real garbage when I first saw em. The Fury deff got new quarters put on it. When I first say that car the quarters were cut clean off it. So the guy is spending some really serious cash on em... Have not a clue what they look like under the hoods but seeing the work the guy is doing along with seeing something long dead like them cars come back to life is a really nice feeling for me. I restore old pickups and it is getting very expensive too....

    • @thekingsilverado3266
      @thekingsilverado3266 Před rokem

      I have a 72 NHRA with the 2 Carter AFB 440 package which is also a rare car but mine was in really nice shape just the engine acted kooky as hell like this one in the video and it had one huge rear main seal leak which back when I got the car I was just 19 years old some old timer he charged me like $500 bucks back then to put a new rear seal in it. Its still holding too. The carbs and linkage was all messed up when I got the car and when I would come home on leave from the military my dad and I replaced all that over a year or two... I haven't started the car going on 10 15 years now its tucked away under covers and old blankets down in my dads basement collection at his place. If anyone wants to know what an NHRA RR is they have the super bird wing on the rear and the Richard Petty with the hat profile is etched in the rear roll up windows with a factory roll bar, the other feature is the NHRA factory installed front license plate. The vin however does not match records in 72. The vin says its a 71 RR number with a 383 engine code which there has been a few Mopars Dusters and Demons Darts alike that were Dealer built in Michigan and Canada that stuff does not match up like the Chargers mostly do. Mine seems to fall under that strange dark cloud of mysteries. One can easily tell the car is not some fake the factory trans cross member is for the 4sp trans so it was NOT some regular Sebring car made to look like a RR it is a RR just dates & codes do not match up as does the paint code has the car as the grass green color when it is in fact silver & flat black along the bottom and on the hood. But the seats R frog sheet green inside the car, with a factory bench seat not buckets as one would expect. What gives more evidence is peel the carpet back and the floors are silver. peel the roof liner back the primer is gray not red as if the car would have been green they used red primer under the green paint as far as other cars I investigated. What an old timer told me about the Sebring body RRs is the fact some of em were destined to be Hiway Patrol police cars that had the bigger engines & manual trans in em. Back from 71 thru 73 we were going thru the gas crisis so the factory switched the cars around that had their orders canceled and made em performance cars which were actually still selling. He said the Sebring body style was never meant to be a RR car at all. Talking to other folks it is highly plausible. The Sebring body RRs are among the most controversial cars to even own but I accept the gas/oil crisis as very highly plausible explanation as to why the vin codes may conflict with the cars themselves. Chrysler was a bit like Ford in the 70s when it came to cop cars they were only in their infancy of marking special production runs unlike GM was years ahead on that scale. Chrysler did in fact have some special order codes back then but those codes were just for established customers orders and not each and every production run. Chrysler like AMC relied heavily on dealers to install special options even AC in some cases the factory made kits for dealers to install back in the 60s & early 70s. Mid 70s they started factory options available on almost all their cars but not until the mid 70s...

    I think the rings are sticking and a port of the transmission flood down in the cylinders and put spark plug back in and turn them over you might smoke like a fright train for a little while but it'll make a depression come up anything sticking and stop sticking

    • @TheCarFarm
      @TheCarFarm  Před rokem

      Yes, fairly sure of some ring issues. All the other issues - probably just easiest to do a quicky hone, re-ring and bearing rebuild. Watch for that video!
