It's the mother of all fuck ups sent straight from hell, I have an addictive personality, drink, drugs, gambling, once you have one sup, one pill, one bet your running around in a panic undoing the good work you might have done over 6 months, beg, borrow or steal but now though waking up suicidal, lying in bed, job lost, owe everybody and after you get back to life, pay back, new job new start, no doubt, that one thing will put you right back in that despair again, I'm 50,living like this since I was a kid, horrible horrible life, i became a father when I was 45 and my child is the only thing that keeps me alive, plus I am very very lucky to have a brilliant family behind me, but it scares the life out of me because this age I'm on my last chance to get my child to college, god be good to anybody in these situations... Its a horrible disease, I pray and that also keeps me ticking on.. So any young people out there or old doing this, god bless you, because its ends in a desaster and all you leave is depths and a bad legacy, I seen it time and time again, you wont be mourned, you be called a dickhead to leave your family in that way, and underneath you could be a good person cursed by demons, only will end like I have wrote, my age, next time, I'm gone... God bless

A few good points..I’m a compulsive gambler and I do believe knowing why you gamble is important.. it wasn’t until I addressed my triggers “skill set deficiencies” did I start seeing real success in addressing issues. But unless your going to a therapist that specializes in this compulsion I find the typical therapist does not know how to handle compulsive gamblers. Slips need to be taken seriously and accountability needs to be strong. I also have found success avoiding sharing my addiction with the lay people who really don’t get it. For this that are not compulsive gamblers “hold your breath until you can’t stand it and count to 10 that’s what an urge feels like”. Through meditation awareness accountability partners and contact immediately at the start to fellow gamblers in recovery you really can’t find true release. Good luck to all suffering from any addiction.

Ya but Support most of the time in a large area just feeds the sickness more than the meaning of any group. to bad the percent recovery record is not of interest and stays . If every one or to many recovered it would be a problem threat of shutting Many recovery treatments Clinics down. They would not want to loose any income over recovery would it.

gambling is like a food allergy-- it is so bad for most of us that it sets off and autoimmune reaction that creates initial over excitement in the brain .. and then an addiction to that-- just like many foods create that same excitement.

I wish doctors and professors can explain each table game at the casino and how they hook gamblers to get the addictions.

Its something like all games are designed for you to win in the short term which triggers afeel good memory which you try to maintain or get back. Therefore naturally u chase it and lose eventually.

My ex girlfriend is addicted to smoking, alcohol, and gambling. She didn't consider herself addicted because all three of her addictions are legal where we live. The combined effect of these addictions after 20 years have left her broke, sick, toothless, and looking 20 year older than her actual age. It's a sad situation and I try to help her as I can but I can't give her more that small amounts of money or she'll head to the casino where they give her free alcohol and cigarettes. We all make choices and my attempts to force her to get help only results in hard feelings. It's one of the biggest regrets in my life.

U should have left her years ago. Nothing to be proud of to stay with a pathological gambler. It sounds like u are the abused person and in denail in this broken toxic relationship. I pray u can leave and live your own healthy life. It is her choice to ruin hers.

Get the "disease" out of your mind! Gambling is a mind set not a disease or illness. It only becomes an illness when you are not able to understand the reprocusions of gambling. A pathological gambler. But you have a problem with your realistic finances so you would go pay your bill next time you need a "high" from gambling that bill money away. Thats what changing your own mindset , and actually accomplishing getting that 100 dollar phone bill or whatever PAID, will get you feeling the ultimate high! Remember that the next time you want to try your luck. Id pick paying the bill, then with any change you have go and treat yourself to a nice dinner. It only takes minutes to lose 4 or 5 hrs of wages at a casino!!!
