    Had 1980 Yamaha srx440. Bulletproof sled. Never did anything. Mixed 32:1. And off I went. Won poker rally’s, drag races, etc. Drove it for 4 years. Wonderful sled. Should have kept it.

    Thanks for this video. This video has made realize I should probably check all that stuff on the ZR 6000 I picked up before running it. I am sure I will watch this video 6 more times tomorrow when Im going through each part. I already replaced the Pipe temp sensor because it was throwing that code when I bought it.

    On Bens sled, front skid mounts are those skid stiffeners or does that raise the height of the mount?( pushing the skid down and reducing ski pressure?)

    Oil sight glasses universally should be half way up. The air molecules entrained in the oil expand causing the fluid level to rise with temperature. In the case of a chaincase its not as crucial but in gearboxes, transmissions, engines ect. this level may rise too much causing components to smack the oil and cause airation/foaming and oil pumps will suck that up instead of pure liquid.

  • @tylerb3480
    @tylerb3480 Před 5 lety

    I changed my chain case oil and I noticed that one of the tabs on the case was cracked (top right tab). After the first ride after changing the oil I notice oil all over my can, the case housing, and the bottom of my snowmobile under the chain case. Also, just after the ride I could see a milky whit film sitting on the top of the oil (maybe water mixed in with the oil)in the sight window. The local dealer said to unscrew the bolt with the broken tab and put RTV silicon around that broken tab to see if that stops the leaking... (Doesn’t make sense to me since the tab is at the top of the case. Does seem like that much oil would drain from the top of the case)Any suggestions? The oil was originally at the top of the sight glass (filled with a 15oz bottle )and now after 2 rides its sitting at half way in the sight glass. Should I just buy an new case cover with the oil reservoir for 150? Any suggestions? Thanks, and keep the videos coming!

    Great video guys, it’s a good idea to wash your belt with warm soapy water when your cleaning your clutches, they do get dirty through the year and can cause slippage that effects peak performance. What about power valve cleaning? Do you guys do this as a regular maintenance item?

    • @syxxes
      @syxxes  Před 5 lety

      You certainly can do this. It's not something that I don't make a habit of doing. I know people who will even take some emery cloth and resurface the edge of their belt in any glazed areas. My opinion on that is that it doesn't offer much. Once that belt gets hit with heat and tension again, you'll be right back to where it started. But some guys stand by it.

Anything I should look out for when doing the top end? And do you know of any videos for clutch weight changing? Cant seem to find any on CZcams. Thanks!

      Check your seals for leaking or any holes in the intake in the front of the hood. Have seen that before! Check to make sure the vent is working on the oil cap too. As far as clutching there should be charts available, depending on what you want to do

    • @syxxes
      @syxxes  Před 5 lety +1

      There is no right answer for this. They are set up the way you want them to be setup. Factory setup is 90PSI front. 150PSI rear for air shocks.

    Thank you for sharing your knowledge, videos are great and help a fellow M8000'er out quite a bit. Can I get a professionals opinion on cost versus benefit of upgrading y-pipe and exhaust, power commander, reeds? Do you or did your buddies notice an improvement in performance that would justify the cost, I know that's a subjective question but would be interested in a professionals take.

    • @syxxes
      @syxxes  Před 5 lety +4

      Reeds clean up the bottom end quite a bit. Some people notice, others don't. I'm not a huge fan of running anything but an exhaust can. Once you do that full exhaust, intake you're getting to the point you need that fuel controller to regulate your machine.
      Honestly, I'm not into running power commander or any other programmer. For the power you get back out of it vs the frequent trouble they cause for one reason or another, on a STOCK ENGINE I don't think it's worth it.
      But that's just one Tech's opinion!

    Do you leave old fuel in from spring that has been treated with Sta-bil? I have always filled mine in spring with treatment and then pulled it and put into lawn mower or something instead and put fresh fuel in for the new season as a precaution but maybe its overkill. Just seemed like good practice.

    • @syxxes
      @syxxes  Před 5 lety +1

      There is a lot of different things that people do that everyone swears by their own way. What I do, is in the Spring, I add fuel treatment/stabilizer to the machine before storage with whatever fuel is left from my last ride. Then come Winter again, I just top off the fuel. Never had an issue with this. Generally a Cat with throw an OCTANE code if it is unhappy with quality of the fuel.

    Just picked up a 2016 m8000. It only has 280 miles on it but there’s quite a bit of threads coming off the side of the track. What causes this? Should they just be burnt off?

    • @syxxes
      @syxxes  Před 5 lety +3

      That's pretty normal. The cause of that is in most cases is from aggressive side-hilling and track speed. The track will actually 'hunt' back and forth on the rails a little bit under certain side load conditions. I see it pretty often, small threads coming off the edge of the track. Just hit 'em with some heat and burn them off if they are bugging you. That's what I do.

      They handle the trails very well. I've spent some time on one in the mountains and the flats. If you are looking to spend a lot of time in the deep snow, this isn't the machine for you. If you are wanting to just go off the trail a little, they work great.

    • @ulanderssonsab7294
      @ulanderssonsab7294 Před 5 lety

      Okay. Yeah i will use trails to come to lakes and smaller hills and nice forests. So it will not be like a 60 degree hill and the snow is mostly around 1 - 1,5 m deep.

    • @syxxes
      @syxxes  Před 5 lety

      You probably have to just fine the right T-30 to get at the bolt if that's your problem. I've done probably 100s of chain case services on all sorts of units with aftermarket boards, and I've never had that problem.

      99% of the time, that switch will fail closed and you'll know right away that something is up. It's not a full check-over video, this is just the basics to be ready for the season.

  • @thegoldenchild4657

    Isn't there a oil drain plug on the inside of the tunnel for the chain case, rather than dump that oil on the belly pan?

    • @syxxes
      @syxxes  Před 5 lety +1

      On '12-'16(+ '17 non-mountain cat) models there is no drain plug. The cover needs to be opened to drain the oil. 2018 and up M models have a drain plug (+'17 Mountain Cat models)
