  • Use English idioms and current slang to talk about what’s cool right now… and what’s not.
    When I hear my students talk about their favorite podcast or the newest Netflix series, I typically hear, “It’s so popular right now.”
    And that works perfectly well.
    But when describing trends in English, there is an exciting world of English idioms and slang we can use.
    In this Confident English lesson, you’ll learn some of the same language you might hear right now on podcasts, TV shows, and more.
    Chapters:
    00:00 - Intro
    01:58 - Hot like fire
    04:17 - Cool like water
    06:40 - A trend like a trend
    07:29 - Eye-roll worthy
    09:34 - Practice

    This is truly one of the best lessons ever. I loved it so much. Since I'm a new immigrant to the US, learning the English language is not only about grammar and rules. But, it also expands to include such idioms and slang expressions.

    Hello Annemarie, thank you so much for making this video. Could you make more videos please about idioms? I noticed that it is an ongoing practice here in the US to use so many idioms almost all the time. I would love to see more idioms ( e.g break a leg, he was pulling your leg, poke the bear) and so on those that are used in common settings for example to express strong opinions, actions, best practices, confidence, trust, and so on. Thank you so much wonderful video just what I was looking for.

    Thank you for sharing trending phrases. I get older and I am a non-native English speaker so I might not abele to use these phrases. But just knowing these meanings makes it easier to have a have a conversation with native English speakers. I'd like to focus on one adjustment for your first example. It sounds like the anti-aging cream is trending, is that right? It's something a lot of people are using, not just you. Because the cream is a thing, we wouldn't use "I'm." Can you think of another way to say this?
      For example, "A low-priced cosmetology cream for anti-aging ________."

      @Speakconfidentenglish  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for the question. Phrasal verbs certainly are a challenge. There are so many of them that it's nearly impossible to know them all. The best approach is a slow but steady approach. Select a small list (maybe 4-5) phrasal verbs you want to learn each week. Practice every day with the same phrasal verbs. I have several videos on learning and remembering new vocabulary here on CZcams for methods you can follow.
