Meet Lulu! Gretsch 1970's Stop Sign Kit Renovation (Demonstration).

This video is an audio demonstration and visual showcase for ‘Lulu’.
Lulu is my Gretsch Stop Sign bebop set made up of drums from at least three kits from the classic 1970’s era.
The drums were bought as a set in 2023: they were covered in Black Nitron wrap, which had fallen badly into disrepair. As I investigated the shells further, I discovered more about their history and also several issues in terms of the drum dimensions and specification, which led to the renovation project.
Much of the process has been documented, including removal of the wrap; preparation of the shells, staining and finishing with varnish, plus a cunning approach to bespoke re-cutting of the bearing edges, as well as dressing the bearing edges and final assembly.
I am really happy with the results and hope you will agree that the kit sounds and looks fantastic. She will now take any model or make of modern drum head, which was an issue prior to the renovation.
