  • Young gorillas climb trees for food and fun at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida. Older adults generally don't climb because of their size - spindly branches can't support their 400+. pounds. The largest gorilla shown climbing in this video is about 150 pounds. Three members of this eight member family group are shown climbing - one 3-year old female and two 7-year old males. Generally considered herbivores, 99% of a gorilla diet consists of plants, only about 1% small insects - here's a glimpse of them eating tree bark, leaves, and flower pith.

I like how they test out the branches to see if it can withstand their weight, they're so smart

I love how they try each leaf to see if it is edible or not. They are smart enough to choose it

Me too! It's really neat to see them making intelligent decisions on their own and when interacting with their families.

That was an excellent video, gorillas really do like climbing when they get the opportunity.

Gorilla's climb trees as easily as healthy humans can walk long distances.
