  • The NatureHike Cloud Peak 2 and the 3F UL GEAR Taiji 2 are both popular budget tents for wild camping. But which one is best?
    Check out ‪@GrizzlyGaz‬ channel here : / grizzlygaz
    Throughout the video I kept calling the Cloud Peak a Cloud Up for some reason - probably because I had a Cloud Up 2 as one of my first wild camping tents. It’s definitely a Cloud PEAK 2 in this video 😆
    Cheers!

    Cloud Peak 2 is a true two person tent and palatial for one. Great vestibule space for cooking and storage. It stood up to a night of very heavy gusts in the Cheviot Hills on my last night of the Pennine Way. I've had mine for three years and would definitely recommend it.

    I don't wash my pegs but do have a small cloth to give them a quick wipe off & keep any soil off my hands. Also have a very small carabiner to clip the pegs together so not to lose any, handy for setting tent up. Clip onto belt loop & your not looking for that last peg that has fallen into long grass

    I was out in my cloud peak 2 on West coast of Scotland recently in constant rain and very strong winds. It coped with it all no bother apart from the noise from top cap section. Not a drip of water got in. Just watch for drips falling into bathtub off the top door section when tent open in wet weather!
    Another top tip is to wrap guy lines around poles a couple of times before pegging down. It helps with stability and puts less strain on guy fixing loops. Nice video mate👍

    I got both. The Taiji 2 is airy, but tends to collect more condensation here in humid Malaysia. Cloud Up 2, is nice and taut when camping at windy campsites.. I like the 2 zips on the doors.. always open the top zip halfway at night to let more air in, and also for cross ventilation..

    I have just come back from my first camping trip (camp site haha) and have to say no pegs were washed and I would kill for a bigger tent bag. I practiced packing it up at home but it was a different story with all that rain on the tent, grass, everywhere, and pressure of time to get it done in time to depart. I ended up with stuffing the inner seperately into a bag my friend had spare:) What a morning! But great holiday otherwise

    I just spent the Jubilee holiday in Fort William, Scotland - Ben Nevis ascent. I bought the Cloud Peak 2 after lots of YT research. Very happy with it. If there is one thing I would immediately change is to change the grey guy lines for bright orange/yellow ones. I had to wrap orange cloth around a few of mine to stop the kiddies in neighbouring tents from running over them.
    It's a perfectly roomy tent for 1, great for airflow to open both doors. Quality construction, east to setup/strike. Can'y comment on weather holding as it was clear blue skies all 4 days.

    love the mc troll bit. made me giggle. I own the cloud peak 2 which I take to Dartmoor on low elavation due to the winds at the higher altitudes are stronger. but it didn't budge at 35mph winds at lower altitude. which Iwas happy with and the room was nice in the rain. but I tend to have a tarp up away from the tent in a woodland and the place I legally wildcamp in Dartmoor. sonI can have a campfire while hearingbthe pitta pattavof the rain. great video . thanx again . I have used Cloud Peak 2 since december 2021 for my winter but snowless wild camping in the Alps. It performed well in cold, rain and high wind gust. It would be almost perfect but the zippers are awfull, no YKK ... at least 2021 version not. I have allready broken zippers on both entrances which is quite disturbing. I can't be gentle with maintenance when being in "the situation"... as I am not wildcamping for fun but work related.

  • @Petestleger
    @Petestleger Před 2 lety +4

    The thing is with all these tents is that your average tent, and this applies to most kit too, is designed to work in average conditions. If you're doing average camping, then most of the kit will serve you well, and it's when it doesn't that it becomes noteworthy. If on the other hand you're heading up Snowden/Ben Nevis (or whatever in your strange and exotic lands you happen to live in) in early January, you might want to look to more specialised products. I think the important points are to be aware of what you're going to be doing, what budget you have, and the correlation between those and the kit available.
    Or, good review there Ben, Cheers 👍

    My only change is to have the rain cap fixed by bungee to two of the pole clips on the fly sheet. It saves time and also stops it being blown away when erecting or repacking the tent. It also means that less water gets in if erecting when it's raining.

      Hi Tim, my choice of the two would be the Taiji. BUT that's because I have a Helm 1 for any bad weather/windy camps. If I had to choose one tent I'd go for the Cloud Peak. But who wants just one tent??? 😆

      They claim it is 1.8. Some manufacturers exclude pegs and bags etc. I always quote weights off my scales and include everything. On this vid the NatureHike tent was in the bag it comes with. I always pack the Taiji with poles separate and the tent itself compressed into a 10l dry bag.

    CP2 has one disadvantage, in strong wind is not very stable, because upper cover works as wing - lot of noise and vibrations. Tent was tested with 30m/s wind in Patagonia. For Taijii i propose strong condensate problems.

    • @DaleyOutdoors
      @DaleyOutdoors  Před 2 lety

      I’ve never had any condensation in the Taiji. It has vents in both sides. I can imagine the CP2 cap a ring as a kite/wing though. I haven’t tried mine in wind yet 👍

    Two great budget tents tbf, well worth the money. Absolutely not true 4 season tents though. Fair weather tents that won't mind a gust or two but there's no way you'd summit camp in either of these with any confidence.

    The video made me even more confused, but you have nothing to do with it, it’s more about the tents. Firstly, the length of these tents is shorter than advertised. Can't they make it 220 cm? Secondly, the mesh is killing me. Why not remove it completely in a 4 season tent, etc. etc.
