The difference between Levi’s 511 and 512 jeans is the 511 jeans have a true slim cut with a 14.5″ leg opening, but the 512 jeans have a slim-taper cut, which means the jeans taper below the knee to a narrower leg opening. The leg opening for the 512 jeans is 12.75″. These two jeans have the same slim cut in the hips and thighs, but the 512 jeans have a tighter, shaped fit below the knee. - Jak na to + styl
No nonsense and informative. You saved me from buying the wrong pair. Thank you.
Glad I could help!
Which one did u buy
@@eboyeman8457 512. More age appropriate for me. I love 511 and would choose it if I were still in my 20s.
@@4120306 skinny better than slim for adults?
@@tawfekabdelrazak Likely due to shoe options. Tapered lowers from the 512 will look more refined than the wider cut of the 511's. I have both 511 and 512 options and the 511 is much more a casual look.
For years I wore 511s but for the past two years I've been rockin 512s. 512s are the Levis best jeans out right now in my opinion!
You should try out the 65504 model. I love them a lot!
Me too..since I tried the 512 and I keep buying the same model every time
OMG! You are what every reviewer need to be. Direct, fast with real pictures. THANK YOU!!! 🤙🤟💛
You're welcome!!
511 stretch everytime. If you're active (bicycle/ walking) and you want comfort and style this is the best.
great review straight to the point i now know that 511 are baggier than 512 thank you
Thank you I just bought the 512 but I found in your video that 511 could be a better fit for me. 💯
Glad I could help
This video is refreshingly thorough and matches the title perfectly. Can you imagine if all youtube explanation videos were like this?
Thanks glad it helped!
It's awesome, eh?
511 slim style is the most manly, classic but modern cut in my opinion, not skinny, not baggy, just slim masculine classic cut.
agree
Well said I hav both styles I wear my 512 to show of my white low cut sneakers and my 511 also shows off my low cut sneakers, but has enough opening at d bottom, to cover jus d top off my boots style shoes,2 perfect style off jeans can't go wrong🖒
True bro It's great to have both Levi's cuts.
I was looking for jeans to show off my adidas all stars
Grabbed some 512's recently thinking they were 511's the entire time, as I honestly could not tell the difference in the fitting room...It wasn't until I got home that I looked at the label and realized the I bought the wrong one, but honestly I didn't care...I am a 511's guy all the way, but will definitely be giving the 512's a chance, especially since they have some cool washes & colors available that aren't available in the 511's line...
There is a tremendous difference between 511 and 512. In your case, i think you are way too skinny to be able to feel the difference.
Atal Bihari Bajpayee isn’t the 511 tighter from the top
@@bullymaguire793I agree. You can tell the difference the second your foot goes through the bottom of the pant of the 512. I hardly can put my foot through the bottom. 😂
Thanks for making these videos, they're incredibly helpful!
Glad you like them!
I luv both series but the 511 is the best !!
Thank you for a nice, straightforward comparison. Being a Coloradan, my work wardrobe is what I call Western business: nice jeans with a ranger belt, Western shirt, boots, often a bolo tie, and a vest or sport coat. The discontinued 513 slim straights fit better over Western boots so my rotation is khaki, black, gray, and tan 513s with one pair of each of khaki and black 511s. My plain blue denim jeans are mostly 511s with one pair of 501 STFs. 🤠
I agree. Well explained. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Well said brother!
I like both, they match differently with footwear. The taper bringing 512 closer to a skinny fit is a red herring. Its about the overall silhouette which is different to a skinny.
I love 511s! have like 5 pairs of then now in weekly rotation ;p
Hi man... Thanks for these videos ... I love levis and this was informative. I had mentioned this on another video, but For the future, it would be great to see you in videos wearing your different levis jeans and giving close ups of the jeans ON your body and butt and turning around with them on, giving all around view to see the sizing for those of us who order online and can't really go into shop. You have a similar shape as me so it would be helpful. I'd buy more as a result. Subscribed. Looking forward to more videos.
Agreed his videos on Levi's are great and informative! I love Levi's as well and always purchase them so thought why not make videos and help others out as it can be confusing with all the different cuts.
I show all angles so you guys can see the difference all outside if interested!
The 512 is actually fit looser yes it’s tapered by if ur usually a size 36 in cheao slim and skinny jeans 36 will be loose in the waists it’s a looser cut so make sure you size down
512 is the best fit ever by levis
I recently tried the 512 after trying other Levi's jeans and I do like the taper and look to them!
511 is the best. 512 is too young
How is the consistency with the 512’s ?
I’ve found over the years with 511’s some colors fit amazing then others feel really loose fitting
I just ordered my first pair of 512 excited to try them
@@SkooterMcGavin042that depends on the shoes, 512's looks like shit if you wear high shoes such as af1 or Nike air max
517 and 527 are my all time favorite❤
Your video is clear, concise and helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Very awesome explanation, short and simple to follow
Glad you liked it
I used to love 501s and 505s. However now I think they fit too loose.
I have 12 pairs of modern fit Levi's jeans.
502, 511, 512, 531, 541s.
Waist: 34 or 36.
Length: 30 or 32
All of them fit roughly the same. Slim and tapered, not too tight. Just right.
I guess that goes to show Levi's have a pretty inconsistent factory standard. 5 different styles shouldn't fit the same way. They are made all over the world. However, the ones made in Mexico seem to be the best quality.
I'll include this from another post I made:
You all might like to try the 502 or 512. Maybe even 531 if you have muscular legs.
All three styles feature a tapered leg. These are slim, but not skinny. Almost as if you had your 501s tailored to look better. Kind of like the old slim fit 501s from the 80s and 90s.
I remember my Mom did school shopping out of the JCPenney catalog. You could get your Levi's jeans in regular or slim fit. I think it was around the year 2000 Levi's discontinued the slim fit option. And then a few years later introduced the 511 slim fit. Man those original 511 jeans were the best. 511's have changed over the last decade. They're loser than they used to be and not as tight of a leg opening. That's why I mostly wear 502 or 512 jeans now. Slim taper is the way to go for me. I want my jeans to have a clean, classic look to them.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents.
Spot on!!
I have five 512s all fit differently.
@@thenush1435really? I wonder why ? My 512 is waist 33 and my 511 is waist 34 yet my 512 are a bit looser on the waist . That makes no sense.
I am very skinny and the 511 is amazing, I cant still wear them over vy boots aswell 🤠 Not too tight, just fitted around the hips
What size of 511? Im skinny too. I usually buy 512 size 30
I swore I would never be that 40+ year guy walking around in skinny jeans, with everyone snickering behind his back. 511s are my favorite, but they no longer make my favorite color in 511s. So I found a pair of 512s in that color.
But they’re right in the edge of being too skinny.
…I don’t know whether I can wear them or not.
512s are the perfect jeans for my Jordans 😊
511👍🔥
I used both jeans and I like it.
512 jeans are the only jeans I wear. Wish they made 512 in khaki pants.
I've used both. 512 looks better than 511
Buen día el 511 y el 512 son de tiro alto o. Medio
Straight to the point, thanks
513 all time fav
Thank you so much for this breakdown.
simple and effective comparison thanks bud
No problem 👍
Thanks for the upload and education bro. 🤙🏽
The 512 are a nice tailored look
Can you explain all the crazy colors and styles they've been coming out with lately? Like...
1. Begonia Lifeguard (88% Cotton, 11% Polyester, 1% Elastane)
2. Begonia Overt - Advanced Stretch (88% Cotton, 11% Polyester, 1% Elastane)
3. Blue Stone (99% Cotton, 1% Elastane)
4. Despacito - Advanced Stretch (81.5% Cotton, 17% Polyester, 1.5% Elastane)
5. Pickles - Advanced Stretch (99% Cotton, 1% Elastane)
6. Orinda (99% Cotton, 1% Elastane)
7. Vines (99% Cotton, 1% Elastane)
They all look like very similar shades of faded blue (traditional faded blue denim). Can you tell me what differentiates them?
Also, why are some of them 99% Cotton, and others only 81 or 88% cotton?
Thanks very much. I've been wearing Levis all my life, but they went crazy with the naming scheme after they went public a few years back. I hate how confusing they've become... Joe
Thank you. Just thank you.
Glad it helped
Levis 512 is the best

511 for the win
great video! straight to the point. thanks
512 good for skinny leg. no reviewers mentioned about this.
Nice to know I think I found my fit....
W video. Thank you for this!
I own a pair that I really wanted to like but the problem is that the leg opening is too big if you want them to fit at the waist. It leads to that dreaded "sneans look". And if you want the leg to taper nicely they're too tight at the waist. I've experienced this while deciding between sizes 32 and 33. I usually buy 32 but had to go for 33. I only wear them with low-top sneakers now because it just doesn't work with chukka boots even if you roll the jeans up. Lots of fabric flapping around.
Excellent video. I’ve been wearing the 511s for years and years now, but my experience with the blacked out colorway is that it is much much stiffer and thicker than the material used in the regular 511 washes (in my case, “rinsed playa”). Do you know of any true black washes in this category that are slightly thinner and more flexible? Related to that question, are the 512s just as stretchy on the waist/thigh as the 511s or will they be thicker and tighter than I’ve experienced in the past? Thanks again.
Should be the same as the 511
Great presentation BTW. 👍🏼
Great info., thanks for making this video.
Very helpful information sir 😍
Thank you!
Thank you for the video
Thanks for these videos
Glad you like them!
Excelent guide!
Thank for you the information!!!
i wish i watched this before goin shopping, your description is accurate! Unlike what i was told in some shops. The problem i have with the slim fit is that they seem to have excess material flapping around the knee area which sometimes gives you 'ears' there. The tapered slim fit are badly made because the waist is too big and the area from the crotch to the top is too short so if you bend over or sit down your ass is exposed and they feel like they want to slip off all the time, and at the same time the leg is too tight so they look like skinny jeans on the leg. The best ones ive seen on guys is when they buy the skinny jean a size or two above their true size because then you get the appearance of how a slim fit jean should look Imo. And weirdly, the tapered slim fit 512's look skinnier than the actual skinny jeans that the guys who buy them a size or two larger than their true size appear. So difficult to find a smart jean which just fits right in levi's, they need to go back to the drawing board in my opinion or at least significantly slash their hefty price tags
Have you tried the Levi's 510 skinny jeans? I find they have less fabric on the knee area than the Levi's 511 and Levis 512 which I like.
@@stylewithaltitude The skinny jeans didn't have the fabric on the knee problem, just the 511 slims. I think I might've tried on some 510's but can't remember, I'll check em out next time I go shopping. Thx
@@mhtbfecsq1 I have videos of the 510 on body as well as other Levi's jeans videos from different angles if you want to see how they fit and want to check em out. Glad to help! I actually wear the 510s often.

Well explained
What do you mean by 14.5" inch leg?
Is the leg opening at 7.25 inches?
Excellent! Very helpful👍👍👍

Good stuff, thanks man
No problem!
Cool thanks for posting.
Thank you for the quick info. Is there a fit between slim and straight. I feel as the slim’s are too snug, but the straight’s are too baggy at the bottom except for when I wear boots.
Love my 512s
GREAT VIDEO
One is made for 5.11 and one is made for 6 foot
Sensacional video!!

Great video 🥂

Cool! Thank you!
Lol, this is an excellent video. Very helpful.
Glad to hear it!
Thanks
Now. I need to get my 511's tailored
I was thinking the same I hardly use them after trying other Levi's jeans.
If you live somewhere cold then save them for winter and wear them with some nice boots as 512's won't fit over boots
@@elliotdavie4072 True the 511s are great for bulkier shoes or boots.
They each serve their own purpose.

You bet!
Dude, you’re a saviour in the amidst of all those prattlers 🫡
So which one is better, 511 or 512?
For me are the 511 most of the time because I played soccer in my younger years and my calf’s are somewhat muscular. I think the 512’s are too tight in the calf area but I would still wear 512’s with a nice pair of more grown up shoes or boots. For day to day use I prefer the 511 over the 512.
@@peruvianaso3606 Thanks! Are you still playing soccer?
thankyou

How come my new 511 have red tab with all capital LEVI’S(knowing it was only made until 1971),and my jeans were bought from official levi’s retailer. Thanks for the answers
Your Levi's jeans with all caps or a "Big E" are the Levi's Premium line. Said to have more stitches per inch/ more time crafting plus more than the regular Levis line. There are also some aesthetic differences. I made a video of the difference between the Premium and Regular Levi's line if you want to learn more about the difference. Hope that helps a bit!
I buy my 512 jeans one size too big and one size too long. After they shrink in the dryer they will fit perfect. Not too tight, just right. Classic.
