  • Inflatable Kayaking - Wind Power Tests on the River Ancholme -
The boys and I drove out to the River Ancholm on a windy day to explore the loop around Brigg, and to test several wind power options out in our inflatable kayaks.
    Fi Fi tested a brolley.
The Machine had a kayak sail.
I was trying out the Bub Up cycle cover.

Great review and good timing for me, since I will try out the Bub Up on the water this weekend!
I knew you where on to something, when I saw your first short clip combining it with paddling and bought it the next day.
As mentioned in the comments, I was originally thinking about turning it into a sunshade (so far one of my more frustrating DIY projects), but using its sailing capabilities, especially when the wind drops is a welcome bonus!
Big fan of your approach experimenting with ever new ways to enhance the experience of paddling inflatables.

Cheers, I'm glad I'm not the only nutter on the water 😅
I can't say I got the setup right on this day. It does help to have it higher up on your back, it possibly (which I didn't try) have the front set a bit higher rather than on the base of the boat.
I don't want to be all 'nanny' about this but I would make sure you're in 'safe' water to try it, especially if you're on your own 😁

@@MoreThanJustaCleaner your tips are much appreciated, and seeing you setting it higher will save some trial & error time. My MRS Nomad has a deck where I can clip the the "holding stick" to its edge, so it is high enough. Luckily I live in short walking distance between two city lakes, so there are constantly people watching my nutty experiments😁, looking forward to their reactions of my new "mobility scooter"- look😅

I hope I’m still fit enough to be paddling at 71.
    Carry on Paddling Grandad…

Electric fin plus wind sail plus hard paddle.. what would be the speed i wonder?

    • @MoreThanJustaCleaner

That would be an interesting combo. I suspect the wind plusv power fin would negate the possibility of paddling hard. When I have the power fin in Sport mode the boat is traveling faster than some people can pull a paddle through water if that makes sense.

Bit worrying if you took a swim though😊

Not really, it's not like a parachute so you're not gonna get swamped. The PFD would keep you afloat while loosening the straps and slipping out of them. Besides it was flat water and I've never ended up in the water on flat water, except when I've done it on purpose. Very low risk 👍😊
