    A priceless treat for vidwans (many of whom are seen in the audience here) as well as connoisseurs to see Brindamma and Muktamma sing together in that timeframe. Another instance was when Brindamma planned the Centenary celebrations of Shri Kanchipuram Naina Pillai in 1988, she and Muktamma sang together (again to an audience that included almost every Who’s who of that era: Semmangudi Sir, MSS, DKP, KVN, TMT etc and many from subsequent generations). I also remember another concert by both of them in Shastri Hall, probably organised by Nadopasana around this time.

      Yes , it is indeed a invaluable treat for artistes and rasikas alike. It opens the eyes of the beholder , to how they actually performed and gives them the authenticity they are due. The Sastri Hall programme was for Veena Dhanammal's 50th Death Anniversary which can found on social media.

    Thanks for a priceless video. Not sure when the two sisters stopped singing duets but i did hear that brinda preferred to sing with her daughter

      Smt Vegavahini, daughter of Brindamma has mentioned that it was the “ magnanimous” nature of Mukthamma for parting ways that allowed for her blossoming as a performing artiste.

      Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Unfortunately not many video archives exist of them together.
      This is a truly one of kind rendition by the sisters.

    The Ghatam player is Umayalpuram Sri Narayanaswami fondly referred to by us as "Pattu" ( anna)

    Brindha Muktha is the correct name !

      It’s a play on words - Brinda & Muktha give us Mukthi ( salvation) when we hear their music and hence “ BrindaMukthi ”.

      Yea , it’s a great testament to their authenticity and classicism as a Jodi and the school of musical in totality.
      As said before , it’s a truly one of a kind feature.

    Out of this two sisters Muktha was not properly glorified, even though Muktha was equally possessed inimitable Veena Dhanammal's Bani as that of Brindamma. Mecca of Music has conferred its top title to Brinda only. But when Bombay Sisters and Sikkil Sisters were dually conferred with prestigious Sangitha Kalanidhi, at the same time.

    • @BrindaMukthi
      @BrindaMukthi  Před rokem +2

      You are absolutely right.
      Smt T Muktha was equally as talented , able and bequeathed the same tradition as were her siblings Smt T Brinda , Smt T Balasaraswati & Sri T Viswanathan. It’s strange how she was so easily overlooked.

    • @dhananjaynaniwadekar3048
      @dhananjaynaniwadekar3048 Před rokem

      Sikkil Sisters were the first pair to be conferred the award, and it was NOT 'at the same time''. They were the recipients in 2002, 25+ years after Brindaa's award and 5+ years after her death. Not sure why T Viswanathan was chosen over Muktaa in 1988 during Semmangudi's reign. Mukthamma is among the stranger omissions. But she did play second fiddle when she sang with Brindamma. Alathur Brothers or Radha-Jayalakshmi performed much more as equals.

      @@dhananjaynaniwadekar3048 ok. Radha and Jayalakshmi was also glarring omission. Now a days so-called Vidhushis/Vidhwans are conferred with this coveted title, thanks to the ground work done by them. Where as in those days No Vidwan or Vidhushis are after titles and PR work. Due to commercialisation in everything Coveted title of Mecca of Music too succumbed. Castism too played villanic role as in the case of Madurai Somu.

      @@parthasarathyep5644 Even 100 years ago, musicians were after titles. Human nature does not change much, but cultural atmosphere, which once fomented great music, can change. The major difference is that 50 or 100 years ago, there were dozens and dozens of brilliant musicians. Today's musicians, barring a few exception, are jokers. England accorded only 4 State Funerals in the 19th C when they ruled the world. In 20th C, it was accorded only to Churchill. That is how you value an honour. Any award which is given every year, particularly in a field where standards are falling, inevitably finds unworthy recipients.
