Kevin have to agree a magnificent army. I remember reading that the nail in the coffin of the French Royalty was the cost of supporting the U.S. in the Revolutionary War, which given their support of the U.S. could be counted as a win for them militarily. Read also the French cavalry was their elite force. Also read for the British it was the infantry as the British had greater access to Nitrates in their colonies which allowed them to make more gun powder and drill their soldiers in musketry. Hi Lewis, the demise of the French is one for the scholars but had much to do with the loss of the North American colonies, failed military interventions in Caribbean, Asia. The treaty of Paris put the nail in the coffin actually with loss of their colonial possessions. They came away with super heavy debts even before the Revolution. Also the absolute monarchy principal was also a nail.....Louis 15th was incredibly weak and his chief advisor...madamm Pompadora (bed fellow) really caused havoc. She hated Frederick and pushed France into to many wars and battles they did not need to fight. Her lust for revenge was insatiable. I think it was more strategic things verses tactical things that brought their downfall. French troops were good but poorly led........lacked strategic insight and perspective......

Last year I bought a job lot of what the person selling them said was Napoleonic’s however zoomed in saw they had tricorn hats hoped they were WSS found out they were minifigs 7YW British and French also included was WRG rules a Minifigs catalog and both volumes of Uniforms of the Lace Wars (As you know like hens teeth to get hold of) so I was pretty well over the moon with them. So another project for my retirement in July. All the best Lewis
The lace war books are very hard to get a hold of. I have them in French only well sometimes people can’t tell the difference between Napoleon IX, and other wars during the 1700s, but thank God you have an astute eye.

Looking great! I’m in the process of working on a 10mm French army. There is an appeal to them even though their performance during the war was generally pretty abysmal.
Wow, that’s all right but you are not them. You are now the French general, and I am more than certain that they will perform much better than historically. You just have to ensure yourself, like me that when you use the army for the first time you find a blooming idiot on the other side to play your combatant. Make sure you win and you win big. Or you can buy dice like I have that just have sixes on it.😂😂

I didn’t put them out there in any particular order. I just pulled them out. I’m not very good at setting up armies for parade or display. But it is a really magnificent army of that period. I’m glad that you liked it.

You know, I don’t know the philosophy behind it I just know that they did. And they carried that tradition all the way into the Napoleonic wars, trumpeters and dramas, had different uniforms and different color of horses. I also think it was silly that the kernels flag was white. I can do some research and find out. But that is a really good question that I have not asked even myself.
@@thekrausecollection15mmmin53 I found out about the musicians that they had to stand out on the battlefield, hence the different or sometimes straightly inverted uniforms. Also it said that at leastvduring US revolutionary wars they were considered "non-combatants", maybe it indicated to the enemy they are no threat and should not be shot at...
That is very interesting but the logic seems a bit strange for me as they had the highest casualty rate. When you have a firing line for the most part, nobody’s aiming at anything they’re just pointing the rifle, a little bit higher than the regiment they’re firing at for the trajectory nobody’s pointing at anything. In a skirmish may be all right but on the battlefield it’s too chaotic. I think there is a deeper hidden reason and I’m going to find it. I am playing detective.
Richard, so I guess the Infantry are on 40x30, same for the cavalry in this period...with artillery about 40x50 or 60? Just quessing from your videos :)
The bases are 40x30 on everything. Except artillery 40x40. I forgot to say. Everything is based the same from 3000 BC to 1650 AD. When it gets into horse and musket period it changes. Seven years war is 40x30. Napoleonics are different again. Age of rifles I went back to the 40x40 thing

It looks like in fantasy Mages are on 40mm dia, Leaders on 50 dia, but in Horse and Musket Brigade (1fig) on 30mm, Divisional (2 fig) on 40mm dia and CinC (5-6 figs) on 50mm dia. Can you share your sizes please... just rebasing some of mine and want to use your basing as inspiration.
@@paulmahoney6365 I have three different leader sizes. I’m not sure what the millimeter sizes because I’m not home, but they army commander like Frederick for example, would be on a large base, Kord , commanders on little bit smaller base and division, or brigade, commanders, even smaller.
Nice Yellow Boy by the way. All your armies should be your favorite armies otherwise you would not have painted them. I love this period as well. The uniforms, the flags, the linear formations is just visually appealing to me. I like the French grey uniforms of this period. Those flags are quite nice as is the painting. I am fond of using Volley and Bayonet for the horse and musket period. I like the basing sizes for your armies. What size are you using for the artillery? Those stands look a bit larger to my eye. Those Swiss red jackets are quite nice. I really do love the uniforms of the period.
I have not tried Vali and Bayonet yet but I think I saw that recently on little wars TV. It looks intriguing. I might like to try that my artillery is based on 40 x 40 pieces because the frontage is the same and it’s just a little bit further depth than infantry and cavalry, so I can fit the piece on it. But all of my seven year war armies are the same 40 x 30 for everything except the commanders and the artillery on 40 x 40. But you’re right I love the uniforms of this. Every army I’ve painted the Russian Austrian depressions they all seem to be my favorite.😂😂
Volley and Bayonet can be played with any size figure and generally any basing so long as both are based the same. Ideally you want about a 3 inch frontage per regiment/brigade depending the scale of the conflict. You would be able to play Volley and Bayonet without a problem. You may need to drop a couple bases from the infantry but that shouldn't be a problem. The uniforms are the reason to paint the horse and musket era. I am fond of painting the 1768 warrant uniform for the British probably because I've worn it enough times. I prefer the French Charleville over the Brown Bess. @@thekrausecollection15mmmin53

It’s probably the greatest work on the seven years war and the war of Spanish succession I’ve ever seen. I support them with the modest amount of money each year. Richard is such a wonderful person and I like to make sure he’s taken care of. But go to the website it’s fantastic.

I am always impressed with people who spend time to create things whether it’s 2 mm 6 mm 10 mm 15 mm 28 mm 75 mm or make their own uniform and real life. It’s all good. Nothing better nothing worse. It’s our own artistic abilities. But I appreciate your comments nonetheless
