Damn, Luna was a real nasty piece of work this episode, I was so proud of Pinkie Pie for calling her out like that, I truly did not expect Pinkie Pie of all characters to go off on her like that, but Pinkie was 100% in the right here. Luna was completely out of line, she was downright cruel toward Rainbow & poor Pinkie, definitely not the same Luna who wanted to help save Scootaloo, Sweetie Belle & Turning Page, this time she seemed fuelled completely by anger and was only out for blood.
Normally Rainbow Dash's outburst would get on my nerve, but it was completely warranted here, even if it did almost cause the Defense to lose the case, but the way Luna spoke to Pinkie, I can't blame Rainbow Dash for retelliating the way she did. Honestly I was hoping Rainbow Dash had gone a step further and thrown Nightmare Moon back in Luna's face, I mean comparing Rainbow Dash to a heinous killer when Luna once became the cold and heartless Nightmare Moon? This juice mare thing was something I was never able to get out of my head. I feel like Pinkie’s juice mare thing isn’t some running gag. I feel the juice mare is an important piece to the puzzle
Watching this, it brought me back to the episode “Fame and Misfortune”, specially the song “Flawless” with Pinkie’s solo lyrics “Ponies think I'm all bubbles and laughter
      That I don't seem sincere
I might joke around a little too much
But I'm just so happy you're here”

Pinkie Pie’s core personality maybe joy, but she’s capable of other emotions too, even the more negative ones like sadness and anger, which was presented here which is very tragic. People assume Pinkie isn’t genuine or sincere because of her bubbly and zany personality

Regarding the steroid thing, I just want to make a minor correction. Grickle Grass IS a poison, not a steroid. However, Sonata has just cast doubt on the diagnosis of Grickle Grass poisoning. This episode went out of its way to mention withdrawal, which is either a Chekov's Gun or the creators trolling us.

wow, Luna's REALLY gone devil's advocate. she's really gonna need a humble pie after this whole thing is over, and maybe some sort of emotional comeuppance. I find she was more tolerable in crusading for a turnabout, even siding with Athena in the last episode of that, but i guess the after events of that trial have clearly hurt her so much that's she's lost her heart. even the judge called her out for this and gave her a penalty. if Stream Line DOES turn out to have been the villain all along and had actually did that to herself and that she actually IS a cheat, that would serve as a catalyst

It even surpassed some of Case 2 which was incredible! Just.............wow.....

    • @topnotchshinobi

1- Gotta appreciate how Sonata smoothly integrated the Ace Attorney Investigation mechanics into the series! (to make up for Edgeworth himself not showing up in Elements of Justice) Though, I will say her deliberately slow burn “wait and see” approach would have tested my patience/faith in her too, if I were in Rainbow Dash’s defendant shoes.
2- Gotta say, even though I’m sad to see Luna descend into a merciless Nahyuta Sahdmadhi-inspired zealotry approach, the regressive character development feels very understandably connect to last case’s revelations/outcome. Luna, at her core, has never fully/truly forgiven herself for betraying Celestia (as Nightmare Moon). And having recently discovered that she was duped by last case’s grand deception (Fair Devotion, Sugar Stamp, and Private Eye tampering with the evidence and testimonies to get Turning Page completely off the hook), Luna does not exactly have the best mental health to address her unresolved “betrayal” trauma button. So Luna is unhealthily coping by mercilessly hunting down everyone else’s perceived treacherous actions, evidence blind spots be damned.
3- Also enjoy how the Ace Attorney formula was subverted by having Luna rant her way into preemptively shutting down Sonata’s final cross examination (of the chapter) before Sonata even had a proper chance to begin. On a funnier note, however, this reminds me of Von Karma’s “end the trial in three minutes” demand/prediction during Turnabout Goodbyes.

The test coming back negative and the hallucination symptom which does not match grickle grass. Luna has absolutely nothing to stand on but because Luna says these contradictions Sonata pointed must be mistakes, why, not because of any new evidence that debunks Sonata’s evidence, but because Luna says so, that’s why. Ok, theory time: Espie is the mirror pool clone of Estella, both of which had a good life until Espie went rogue and killed Stella. Out of immense guilt and shame, she fled and completely changed her identity, to Stream Line. By then, she probably found something like semi-permanent appearance changing drugs, diluting it into favored juice boxes, and eventually became addicted. Rainbow probably suspected drug use and switched out the spiked juices with regular ones, thus reducing her intake. Eventually, she went into a severe state of withdrawal, slightly hallucinating about Estella, which is explained through that phrase, eventually collapsing. If this turns out to be true, that would explain why Overall was killed, he SAW Estella’s dead body and Espie, probably using an invisibility potion or spell, snuck into the theater and killed him, making it appear as a suicide. And another thing, Grickle Grass is maybe an added ingredient to these possible appearance altering drugs/potions, but causes adverse side effects while in withdrawal, which might explain the distinct symptoms.
Geez, to think the mirror pool was mentioned again seriously means Estella was probably the one who unblocked it in the first place. That place will prove revelatory in the future at some point.

Also yeah, seeing as in the outro, both estella and espie are represented by the same cutie mark, but a good part of espie’s body is hidden, so we cannot see wing nor cutie mark on espie. Tho i wonder, could it be possible that espie could be a clone of the real espie. Like the real one died, but stella was able to clone her and make her live. Then the clone espie found out about it and killed stella in a fit of rage at the discovery.

The clever Muffin man reference and Pinkie stepping up to defend her friend Rainbow from Luna's- I mean Nightmare Moon's beratement were unexpected and great surprises. Speaking of the devil, wow what a fall from grace, but great writing for her! I wish Rainbow referenced that past evil state Luna once beared to her face like "Oh yeah? Like how "loyal" you were to your subjects when you became a ruthless and cold monster?" ...though that would've derailed the trial and resulted in an explosion of anger that could've gotten others hurt. Or in a calm yet quick request for a recess. Good thing, the Judge held Luna accountable for her unprofessional behavior in this trial. Also Sonata's smug energy in Scene 5 was great and satisfying to see. And that cliffhanger...hats off to the team!

She has been warned time after time to not antagonize the defendant and witnesses and even interrupted Sonata’s cross examination of Rainbowdash’s testimony. Why Luna is allowed to continue as prosecution in her clearly emotional state is beyond me. She also has presented absolutely nothing of value to this entire trial. The autopsy tested negative for grickle grass, oh it was clearly a testing error. The victim is having halucinations which isn’t a matching symptom, oh it must be a rare strand of grickle grass. Any time she’s presented with evidence against her she always passes it as an error. Luna is never wrong, the evidence is. Any other prosector would rework their stories to fit the evidence. Luna reworks the evidence to fit her story.

I do wonder if Luna was purposefully riling up the witnesses to get them to talk/keep them talking and just took it too far. Rainbow Dash not shutting the hell up was crazy, almost got me thinking the trial was actually over! Of course, being that this is Ace Attorney, the defense was able to get an extension regardless, due to the toxicology report. Girl really thought she was going to get away with such a lousy report, I'm sick.
Also, unlike Ace Attorney, the prosecution actually faced consequences in the form of a penalty. You have no idea how vindicated I felt: years of watching these prosecutors insult and assault the defense, only for nothing to be done about it! @TPrower Před měsícem +14

With the cliffhanger the last one ended on, I’ve been eager to see how this case would go, even if it meant likely going from bad to worse at the outset. As usual, spoilers below, lol
As we wait for the trial to readjourn, we now have a slightly clearer picture of the previous Lawkeeper, the one who helped Sonata with her law career, and Equity's predecessor: Atticus. He reached out to Sonata while she was still in prison, and his kindness and courtesy really inspired her. Sounds like he was somepony worthy of respect.
But here's what I was waiting for, and dreading: Rainbow blowing up at Sonata for how she's been conducting her defense and blaming her for how she now looks, when she's the one sabotaging herself by holding onto her grudge and not telling these truths to Sonata and Phoenix beforehand. Thankfully, Phoenix was able to talk some sense into her by bringing up that Bonds of Justice moment they shared together, talking about trusting attorneys with the truth, and that really seemed to hit a chord with her. Maybe she's finally realizing how important it is to believe in Sonata leading the defense, even if she had a reasonable excuse for not wanting to declare she had what could be considered a motive for wrongdoing. Still, knowing how harsh Luna was during interrogation is disconcerting. She's letting the previous trial cloud her judgment and make her more irrational and aggressive. We still don't know why Rainbow was swapping out those juice boxes, or where the one she swapped out went, but hopefully it won't be long before we learn that.
I can't help but theorize, however. If Rainbow thought Stream Line was a cheater, did she think she was putting some illegal performance enhancer in those juice boxes? Was Stream Line going through withdrawal from having her 'personal' juice taken away?...
Phoenix made an excellent point before they went back inside the courtroom: Rainbow still has difficulty trusting Sonata, so Sonata needs to demonstrate why she should be trusted, by showing she actually cares about Rainbow's innocence and wellbeing. Rainbow prefers action over words, so Sonata needs to give her visual proof of her belief in her innocence. Mia's taught you well, Phoenix.
With Pinkie officially taking the stand as a witness, I had a feeling this would be a more chaotic episode, and that Pinkie would be a difficult witness to work with. My immediate impression in knowing she’d take the stand was of Moe the Clown in Turnabout Big Top, who was equally difficult to cross-examine due to his trying to inject his livelihood into his testimony and Phoenix getting penalized if he pressed the wrong statements. Just going by the thumbnail, I felt sure Luna wishes such an unpredictable pony who has difficulty taking things seriously wasn't such an important witness, especially when she's trying to pick herself back up from the last trial, but what can she do at this point? Just the fact that she got sidetracked on the way to the courtroom is very like her. Besides, with how things are going, we could use some levity, and it was sweet how genuinely happy Rainbow was to have a friend like her there.
But I was not at all expecting how this actually went. Putting aside the genius Shrek reference with the ‘juice box mare’, Pinkie’s cross-examination has pretty firmly established that Rainbow was ordering large quantities of those juice boxes, and that Pinkie was sure she saw a pony with a rainbow mane when the tornado was set loose. That’s not even getting into Luna’s behavior, getting increasingly personal and insulting as she tears into both Pinkie and Rainbow, driving Pinkie Pie of all ponies to actually argue with one of her kingdom’s princesses. Not that she’s wrong in how Luna has no reason to behave this way, but running her mouth off like that was a surefire way of getting her kicked out of the courtroom…
And then we see Sonata putting Phoenix’s words into practice by allowing Rainbow to testify for herself, but it’s still worrisome that she’s still being vague about certain things and wanting to plead silence. But that was a first: the prosecution interrupting the cross-examination before it even started to further her overbearing discourse. While she’s not wrong that the less-than-scrupulous actions of a Wonderbolt, even a reservist, reflects badly on the image of the Wonderbolts themselves, and that, if Rainbow is guilty, she’s betraying the Element of Loyalty she represents, especially since she’s already hiding so much, her charged language was incredibly uncalled for. Not just that, but she managed to provoke Rainbow into saying something incredibly damning: that Stream Line deserved what happened to her, and she would not be sorry to see it happen to her again. Oh, Rainbow…
Things are looking pretty bleak, though it’s good to see His Honor hold Luna accountable for her attitude, saying that she’ll be penalized for ignoring his warning. If Luna wanted to salvage her reputation after the last trial, this was not the way to do it. What’s gotten into you, Your Dreamness?...
But thank God Sonata had a brain wave before a verdict could be handed down. Luna thinks they have everything they need to definitively declare Rainbow guilty, but they don’t. The toxicology report hasn’t stated beyond doubt that Stream Line was poisoned, and her delirious state before collapse wasn’t a symptom of Grickle Grass poisoning, meaning there’s more to uncover. There’s also the matter of what she was murmuring to herself. Was she really naming Estella Pantomimia, and if so, why?...
In any event, the court is placed in a unique position, at least in Phoenix and His Honor’s cases: a ‘victim’ who’s still alive and can give testimony once they’ve recovered. It was a skin-of-the-teeth save, but Sonata’s managed to buy them some time, and she’s hopefully encouraged Rainbow to trust her better.
That post-credits scene, though…Estella…the mirror pool…that projector…What the hell was going on with the Pantomimia sisters?...

Dunno if she’s just lazy or completely blinded by stupidity and naivity but her case is clearly lack of both meaning, coherence and fairness.
It’s so flawed that even cheese can be jealous.
Like seriously, she doesn’t have the "murder weapon’s" source (the origin of the "poison), doesn’t have definitive witnesses (only some people who saw some swapping juices), doesn’t have a clear motive for poisoning (like seriously, what’s exactly the motive here ? Fighting with the victim ? Comme on, that’s bullshit) and she didn’t explained clearly how the juice was poisoned as there was no way for Rainbow to export poison nor that she have any knowledges on that.
And we don’t talk about this unacceptable "confession" she picked on her by foul means.
In my opinion, she should be held in contempt of court and having her case given to a more suitable prosecutor. Even Trixie make a better job than her as we saw in Turnabout Storm. Like Pinkie said, Luna isn’t suit to be a prosecutor and the way she talk can make us doubt about her ability as a princess.

This is a good case, but MAN is it frustrating especially with Rainbow Dash!!!! Why doesn't she just say what she was doing switching the juice boxes even after her big rant on Stream Line? Literally, anything she could have said would not make the situation any worse, so give the defense SOME information. I get Dash doesn't trust Sonata and is stubborn, but this is beyond stubborn and reaches stupidity. I get Dash from the show can do stupid things, but this feels too much even for Dash on her worst days. I really hope she does something to majorly help Sonata because right now it looks like it was a mistake for Sonata to trust her.
I've been getting the vibes with Equity and Suri's comment that ponies have started losing faith in the Equestrian royalty and Luna's performance here is just going to make things worse. She basically took all the wrong lessons from her last case which is a shame, especially after her talk with Celestia it seemed she would get better, but only got worse. I doubt Celestia is going to be as friendly as she was then for their next conversation. I'm glad the Judge finally put his foot down with her, but I definitely think he should have done it earlier, especially since what Luna did to Dash could be having her confess due to coercion which is illegal. She pretty much proves her critics correct that she isn't fit to be a prosecutor and should have been held in contempt for her attitude. Though I guess that's basically on point for Phoenix Wright prosecutors. I am curious what this penalty will mean for her.
My favorite part of this episode is Pinkie. She was pretty much perfect. Great voice acting, is funny, sees things in her own unique way but isn't stupid, and gave Luna much-needed talking too. No notes on Pinkie she was great. I do wish her testimony led to more solid evidence. I also feel like she shouldn't have been removed from the stand when Luna was intentionally antagonizing her.
I also find it funny the Judge pointed out how Streamline is still alive because I honestly forgot that. I do worry she might not be completely truthful with her testimony since she definitely did something wrong to get Rainbow that mad at her.

Sonata linking Stream Line to Stella opens up the possibility (in my opinion), that Stream Line is actually a disguised Stella/Espie, taking shapeshifting drugs to avoid responsibility as the true culprit of the murder that Overall was originally accused of. Luna is clearly out of line with all this. She isn't supposed to take things in her hands and kept attacking all the witnesses. She should have been thrown out of the court room.

Two things I must compliment the writing for with this episode.
The fact that the writers managed to give such a perfect out of line attitude for Luna, going so far as to coerce Rainbow Dash into giving in to her pride and loyalty to the Wonderbolt academy KNOWING that would trigger her to go off and say the worst things possible to almost result in a Guilty verdict makes her outright look like a very hatable antagonist that we'd want to see be given a wake up call.
She's become so blinded by rage from the previous case, that her behavior has shifted from being her calmer self, to that of Nightmare Moon.
So thus, she played a very dirty tactic by interrupting the cross examination and targeting Rainbow's loyalty and pride in order to swiftly ALMOST end the trial in her favor.
Which leads me to my second compliment.
    The writing of the Judge.
The writers of EoJ have actually balanced out the Judge's incompetent nature with his serious duty as a Judge.
In regards to the side of me that is an AA fan, I was genuinely impressed with how they had the Judge outright acknowledge Luna's outburst, how it affected the defendant RD and how Luna had played it out even going so far as to give her a penalty for her actions.
It is NOT an exaggeration to say that The Judge giving the Prosecution any form of penalty in the Ace Attorney series is absolutely rare.
So genuinely, bravo to the writing team once again for this.
As for the voice acting, everyone did a superb job here. The tension was flawless, the emotion was bursting and my goodness Pinkie Pie's anger is something you don't see every day and I felt it flat out when Luna started verbally attacking her.
Overall, just superb writing and superb voice acting all around.
Bravo to everyone for yet another fantastic episode!

Obtaining information through duress? That's... no. No, Luna should be disbarred immediately for that alone. Just like Edgeworth should have been disbarred in Turnabout Sisters for telling the bellboy to hide information, but I digress.

First dash didn’t help on the scootaloo trial, only to berate the one who helped end it, then tongue lashing rarity and her sister in the aftermath.
Only to create chaos in this case too, resisting arrest, she might get a sentence just for that.
