    box measurements (in)
    front/back: 24x9
    top/bottom:24x12
    sides:12x9
    port:8x1
    ok so i also found the original piece measurements (this is the actual cutout measurements including port walls)

    2: 24x8
    2: 11x8
    2: 10x8

    box tuning: i calculated to around 32 hz
    inner box volume is 1.1713in (not including port walls)
    i couldn't be happier with the sound this setup produces
    the subs i used were REx 8 hope this helps

    That's actually a pretty smart design, the port is actually quite large if you do the math. Plus, the port acts as bracing for the enclosure. My guess is it sounds pretty damn good.

    @Avalanche1530 thanks and yeah 2 8's doesn't sound very intimidating but they will rattle my garage doors and the cars inside when outside my house. I'm running them at about 300 watts rms at a 4 ohm resistance. they sound a lot better than the enclosed box i had them in before and port noise is minimal, honestly i couldn't ask for a better bass set up. i will upload a bass demo soon

    I wish I knew how to design a box, I have a 15 that requires a ported enclosure with 3 cubic feet, I have a custom box built for it, but would like a redesigned one to change the shape, for mounting in a different space.
    Evidently people are ignorant of shop safety and never seen a saw jerk a piece of wood through, pulling the persons hand with it, or spitting a wood chip into it. Those people make for great entertainment for those who work those tools for a living when they have to operate one.

  • @DjCuddly
    @DjCuddly Před 12 lety

    It seems that you are really handy with the wood! But regarding future projects, you should build the porting a bit differently. In this box the air columns inside the vents will collide with each other in the point where the two ducts join together to form one larger port. It could lead into a problem with port noise with high spls or the box might not work in the way simulations suggested due to increased turbulence of the air flowing through the port.
    Keep up the good work!

  • @TheMrBrandonlewis
    @TheMrBrandonlewis Před 12 lety

    my point is that in his configuration, he states that he is running them at 4 ohms which means if he has 2 DVC sub woofer's then it is only possible to wire them as a 1 or 4 ohm load. Likewise if has 2 SVC sub woofers, 4 ohms would be the lowest impedance.

    awesome video, i like the use of all your safety. and the outcome is pretty good. i like that all your holes are predrilled, a lot of ppl don't do that or don't know to do that. if i would change anything about that box i would have sanded the port wall corners because air doesn't like sharp corners in some enclosures this can cause some port noise.

    @joestl314 It all depends on the type of bass you're trying to achieve. For a tighter cleaner bass response a smaller port is needed. Thus, this design is perfect for achieving a tight/clean, yet quite substantial bass response. The builder in this video certainly knows what he's doing. And BTW, that port is not tiny if you consider its length.

    Not correct for all solutions, it has a higher resonance frequency than for regular fiber board, which means it could go into self resonance at ~400Hz. But this is seldom the range of a subwoofer, but for a 2 channel speaker it can be an issue. Correct me if I'm wrong.
