Aussie here, sat with or very close to the barmy army in this series and the most recent one and they are by far the most fun supporters going around. Very welcoming and were happy to cop and give back any sledging in good humour. They very nearly had me switching sides when the Australian army (opposite side of the stadium) reached a new low and sung 'Hey micky you're so fine' only to be drowned out by the Jimmy Anderson song!

These fans deserved it, some had been on all the tours for three decades and this was their first away ashes win
Not easy to do, Australia and England are so strong on their home deck. So when one of them beats the other away from home, it's a big deal. Australia nearly did it in 19, still "Took the Urn home" but it wasn't as good as a win.

A lot of Australian fans are fickle and only like it when we're winning. I remember being there on Boxing Day 2010, when we were skittled for less than 100, then Cook and Strauss put on over 150 by stumps. I stayed til the end, coz that's what you've gotta do, and support your team. Most of the Aussie fans had left by then.

personally i think england v australia is one of the best sporting competitions in the world. its entertaining, fun & friendly. we have a good rivalry, its fierce but it would never come to violence. lots of history and just generally great for the spectators regardless of who wins! i love it. its way better than the shitty money driven franchise of football. hope it continues, but i do feel than australian sport media is waaay more interested in winning than the sport itself...

We may not be good at anything else , i.e. Brexit deals or Politics, but we know how to put words to a song. Either at a Football ground or a Cricket ground . Bring the Ashes Home , " England expects every man to do his duty " .
Well at least the Barmy Army do their duty, not so sure about their players. Already 2-0 and not even looking close so far in this series. Plus Aus retained in England in 19, only barely holding out for a useless drawn series since Aus already had the urn.

I am a Pom, living in Oz. Sadly I sometimes feel that Aussies don't actually like sport! They like winning. It was obvious to me at the MCG and SCG when in the dying hours they had all left. The Barmy Army and indeed all England cricket fans turn up and stay put and have been doing it for years when we rarely won... I suppose we will have to enjoy it whilst it lasts, but I will be there, watching the team, win or lose all the same...
