I mean Lloyd is really easy to use, but honestly he is average at best. Once you actually get good in the game and get a chance to other characters like Zelos, Regal or Collette you release how limited Lloyd really is.
Sheena gets slight props for being the only person who can consistently deal dark elemental damage. Raine using light elemental attack magic in the last dungeon is what makes people wonder where all their grade went when you see your grade total.

Unless she could cast Maxwell or Origin she did the least amount of damage out of all the melee attackers and Presea hits like a semi truck going 90. I’d rather use Regal or Presea over her. Hell even Zelos. And Zelos hits less hard than either of the two, but he does have versatility with aoe heals and some spells. Though Zelos is better to just use to get free items from women though.
This list is bad lol. If you're putting Genis at the bottom you have a problem...only time he's BAD is like the beginning of the game but Raine and Genis are seriously broken mid to late with the higher Ex Sphere LV's that just make them spam some of the most strongest moves and stun lock enemies often. Raine is the most broken but she's not that great in the beginning either besides just being a flat healer and gets Photon...like pretty slow in the beginning so when she's out she'll just be melee which is THE WORST over Sheena's is pretty decent and I'd put her at a mid tier because of it. Sheena isn't shit on combos but you need to stun enemies and be pretty careful though but putting her on shit just means she's not viable imo...every character in this game is like viable. But why use Raine early when you have Kratos who has first aid, covers the bases and had both magic and offense with this logic in mind. She's not good at that point until she gets both Photon and Nurse. She's best early on in the back where after fights she can heal the party outside of combat until she has more ability.
@@nah4467 I’d still put Genid pretty low, he is better AI controlled as you can block enemies from interrupting his spells. And his spells are better if you combo them into physical hits. I will say the list is bad, because Regal and Lloyd should be god tier with their combo game alone and even AI controlled they still light up enemies.
Have you actually played this game? You’re pronouncing the names of these characters wrong, Zelos and Kratos’s differences are so minuscule that there’s no reason they shouldn’t be tied. Sheena is an excellent dps, the only reason you listed Colette was her spamming para ball but you ignored her other great skills like life thief and spirit thief. Regal, Zelos, Kratos, and Sheena can all do infinites with spell cancelling.
I mean, he specifically says in the video it’s based not only on character played by a human but also AI. And let’s be honest, Sheena’s AI is one of the worst
I always have Lloyd, Raine, and Genis no matter what. The fourth character changes depending on which battle I’m doing. It’s mostly either Colette, Kratos, or Zelos.
I'm glad someone else caught on. He either just watched basic walk-throughs of the game or just played it really quick without learning much. If he played it through on any other difficulty other than normal, no way Raine would be God tier.
If you give spellcasters regen 3% TP per 5 second accessory (around level 40) the regen almost covers high tp cost spells with long cast times. They can make it through long battles with no item use (a fun challenge mode)
My one issue with some of these tier lists is that you mainly focus on end game. Kratos shouldn’t be in the top tier if he’s only in 5% of the game. It’s much like how the octopath tier lost, which i just watched. Only focuses on the very end game
I'm not convinced that this guy ever actually played Symphonia. Character names are one thing (don't forget how Symphonia 2 literally calls Palmacosta palma-COST-a) but like...genis late game and Sheena during the kratos-less tethe'alla section...regal is also a good call if you pair with presea/sheena
I find it disrespectful that Lloyd is in mid tier and Colette is top tier. I see why you did it but it just doesn’t sit well with me personally. Colette using Para ball to stun lock a boss into oblivion is extremely nice but she’s kinda squishy and Lloyd’s combo potential is unmatched. However, this is only my opinion and there was a lot that I agreed with……especially Raine, she totally deserves God tier status.
I feel the same way. Lloyd deserves a lot better. Colette in my opinion, her physical attacking style doesn't really wow me. Her magic is good. Especially if you combo holy song and Raine's Field barrier and Acuteness. But she's a C tier for me

No doubts there……..but remember; Genus’s magic gets stronger and he starts getting access to spells like Explosion, Ground dasher, Tidal wave, Absolute, Indignation, Meteor storm. All of those spells being cast one right after another absolutely devastates enemies and bosses. Now, am I being a bit biased? Prolly but he’s always put in the work so he ends up on my team.

But sheena is really great. She is the only debuffer of the team, she can summon and i don't think that tp is a problem if you can use items, she has differerent abilities like elemental attacks, shw can steal life and tp, resurect allies and is preatty fast. And her best combo is the infinite attack with her serpent seal pinion
just going by the gameplay vid, he doesn't seem to know how to use her. she has a steep learning curve that many won't bother learning cause she's not spammy.
You can tell a lot of thought was put into this video when Colette's name is misspelt "Collette" and Presea is called "PREH-see-uh" (it's "pruh-SAY-uh") Sarcasm aside, I'm also really confused why Genis is Low Tier while Raine is "God" Tier, when the only reason given for Genis being low is "TP consumption", which is a MUCH bigger problem for Raine, who also needs to heal constantly to be useful, unlike Zelos/Kratos who can quickly build up TP on their own. Kratos/Zelos occasionally stepping back to heal, or even someone just using lemon gels and life bottles is often more than enough to make Raine unnecessary if you play well. She's most helpful on Mania, really, and only really "necessary" for a few boss fights because of her team healing spells. TP is also really not a problem in this game if you're playing it right (especially with the various EX Skills and accessories that reduce or heal TP consumption), and Genis tends to be much more useful overall for the pure damage most of his Tier 3 spells have, and all of the unisons he can trigger with other characters (especially in Chronicles). Raine's main benefits are her buffs (which are nice but not necessary, cooking can also partially substitute this) and her light spells (which are nice, but again, never a necessity, especially if she's healing most of the time anyway). Her only 100% useful "no other character has this" specialty is healing everyone at once with nurse/revitalize, which can be ignored if played well except for a few select bosses on the hardest difficulty. Also, you mentioned the characters could be AI but hardly talked about their AI. Raine's AI is AWFUL and fails to heal usefully, spamming nurse and revitalize when only a single character is injured, or resurrection AFTER someone's been revived with a life bottle, among many many many other things. Genis' AI has never given me any problems on the other hand, aside from walking too close to the enemy at times (which Raine does just as often, and is more frustrating when she dies due to the sudden lack of a healer as opposed to temporarily losing a 2nd/3rd damage output). Also going by AI, Presea's is much better than Zelos/Kratos by default, unless you turn off their spells (maybe it's just me but they always decide to cast at the worst times when left on). Lastly, having a party of 3 frontliners + Raine isn't necessarily better since that means her AI is split between healing three people taking damage instead of two, and the extra crowdedness in the frontlines means unless you're careful with what techs the AI can use, it can be annoying to get the combos off that you want due to being interrupted by the AIs. tl;dr Raine being THREE tiers above Genis makes 0 sense unless you're really, really bad at the game and using her as a constant crutch. They're both 'squishy' spell casters, one is really good at damage and the other at healing, both variably useful. Also, on GameCube, Genis with Randomizer ex skill and Devil's Arm is cracked due to being able to instant-cast his strongest spells multiple times in a row
@Ace Man2k Genis easily does ~2400 damage with Prism Swords every time he casts it, not including Int bonus, and with the Randomizer EX Skill equipped his casting time is near 0~2s leaving only a small endlag delay before he can instant recast again. Lloyd meanwhile can only reach around 800~900 at base Str with a basic combo if all his hits land. In fact, nearly all of Genis' Level 3 spells w/Randomizer have higher damage output than any of Lloyd's techs considering he can't spell cancel. Meanwhile, Raine's Ray is technically more damaging but significantly less accurate than most of Genis' spells and overall does less because not all of the hits will connect. There's no other reason to bring Raine into a battle--her healing is only an advantage if you're bad--and considering Zelos/Kratos should be focused on spell-cancelling, there should never be a situation where you have more than one mage (Genis). So mage spells overlapping each other should never be an issue. Having four melee is a bad idea because everyone trying to crowd around one enemy means everyone ends up getting in the way of each other's combos. Meanwhile, almost all of Genis' spells stunlock and hold the enemy in place, making it easier for the remaining 3 melee characters to get combos off.
I think you're underrating Genis, but even if you aren't, he will always be on my battle team because his spell chants are pure joy to hear, even the 98648556th time. I will always smile when I hear "It's pancake time!"
Raine is a must because she's the only good healing mage character needed to be in the party! With Symphonia mechanics, 2 mages are pretty useless due to the fact they cannot cast spells until the animation of other spell is complete! So if Genis use a spell, Raine cannot cast her healing spell immediately, make other members suffer! :( The only attack spell we need in this game is Photon and Photon! Photon is insane, fast casting, fast animation, 100% accuracy, 100% stagger, 100% raise downed enemies up even on bosses (except light-immune enemies)! Although it's useless in the first phase of the final boss but that's only it! Her 2 Mystic Artes are quite good too, they all deal all-screen AOE damage! Especially Fairy Circle deal damage and fully all-screen AOE heal which is the best Mystic Arte in the game!
@@aceman2k320 Actually, everyone knows that but low tier spells are not strong and spells in this game does not enough damage. Instead of that, use other characters are better. I never use Zelos, Kratos's spells because they are better to be frontline fighters. Genis is fragile. he cannot withstand a single hit from Abyssion. And AI in this game sucks you know. Mage characters love to draw near to enemies to cast spells despite you told them to stay far away.
I always play as Lloyd. Kratos/Zelos is my second, Raine as a healer cuz I play on Mania, and Genis as my magic user. If I’m ever in a pinch, I use the Ultimate Attack w/ Ray & Indignation for the Prism Stars attack. Does a lot of damage.
how Colette is only TopTier when she can poison the hardest boss and shred his hp like nothing? also she can cancel spell's of most things with ray satellite and triple ray satellite
If you're playing as genis, you can make all your spells cost zero mana via the combo ex skill that lets you save spells until after you attack. Not only does it let you save it for an opportune moment, but it removes the spell cost
Sheena excels at very quickly knocking down enemies and making them weaker. I think you'r meant to occasionally switch to her, screw with an enemy's defences, knock them back, then switch to a phys or mage and cast spells, or starting a spell with Genis/Raine through shortcuts and covering them while you debuff and stun enemies so they dont walk out of the spell radius. Plus having her in the party means summons. Sheena's not good as a solo character, she's all about supporting a party composition and being smart about it. Which is why i think they gave her a solo boss in a hard as fuck sidequest lol
I agree with Raine as top & the bottom three. Colette also pretty accurate, I think. I would probably put Presea (might be overrating) & Lloyd at the top and remove the god tier (putting Raine as the same tier but still top), but I need to do NG+ to really be confident on any other placing
I don't get it? Tempest is the best mobility tech in the game. Lloyd moves very fast. All that really matters in this game is staggering bosses. Lloyd can tank everything. If you disable Genis' advanced artes, they will never delay Raine's healing artes which ensure you will get faster healing. And with some equipment adjustment, genis can cast basic spells very fast. Additionally, his presence and threat level will aggro enemies which will take them off your back for a moment. I'd personally just rather have an AI operating a ranged unit than a melee one since Lloyd has more than enough techs that rapidly land hits to stagger enemies and allows you to keep close, maintain control and be aggressive without being hit. On top of that, having Genis there means enemies are not always going to go after and just dogpile raine.] So you set up that Raine Llloyd Genis combo and then you solidify it with Zelos or Kratos, who have all the major strengths of a brawler but also the basic strengths of Raine and Genis.
Having some friends to play the game in co op can possibly help alleviate any problems you have with the ai. If you're friends aren't as competent as you are or more, you might have new problems to deal with. 😅
@@locloudanerpg I try to play with friends on Parsec or Steam remote play. Unfortunately I can rarely find friends to play it with. When I do get people to play with, it's so fun.
Imo the tier list would be: Low: Sheena, Presea. Sheena's just not up to par with the rest and Prsea's animations are too slow. Mid: Raine, Colette, Genis. Issue with Raine is if you include AI into the argument then she and Genis suck due to trying to kill themselves too much by trying to melee enemies, Colette while having the same spell canceling advantages as the High tier just always feels too squishy and awkward to play and her AI's iffy at times (if she had healing/status curing (only Raine has it in the game)/reviving without the need to die in her kit she'd go up a tier though and the PS3 version gave her some new spells that were good)...Honestly the AI of these 3 hurts all 3 to some degree and it wasn't really that great for full on spellcasters with no melee potential (Colette has some melee so she's not hurt as bad as Genis/Raine and Zelos/Kratos can go full melee if you wanted to so they don't need to rely on spells). High: Zelos/Kratos (mostly the same with slight differences to animations). They're mainly here due to spell cancelling, they're not higher mainly due to when playing them their animations feel awkward/don't combo as well as the Top tier imo. Top: Lloyd, Regal. Lloyd mainly cause all of his artes/Techs combo/flow into each other with a more natural and fluid feeling than all the above characters and his animations are just much faster than High tier characters, Regal for the same reasons as well as having access to spell cancelling (imo Regal's the best in regards to how it feels to play him in the game). Only real downsides to these two would be their more single target focused (especially Regal). Outside of the tier list if I go by the characters I'd play the most in order from most played to least it'd be: 1st Regal 2nd Lloyd 3rd Zelos or Kratos 4th Colette 5th Sheena 6th Presea 7th Genis 8th Raine I'll be honest I'm just not really into full on mages...even with games after Symphonia I'm not that big into the magic knight characters until Graces F due to the spellcasting time being so long in all games up until Graces F even for base spells. And if I go by which characters have the best AI it'd probably be: 1st Lloyd 2nd Zelos or Kratos 3rd Regal 4th Presea 5th Colette 6th Sheena 7th Genis 8th Raine
Colette, squishy ? She has Life Thief + Super Guard, and if you go full melee with her (which you absolutely should do), she won't die and will kill the enemies extremely quickly, her offensive skillset is broken (and Toss Hammer is the best attack in the game by far, to the point it makes the game pointless).
I love Sheena as a character. Third behind Lloyd and Colette. But yeah, as a fighter, she's pretty bad. Sucks they did her dirty. *see mid tier* Wait, what? How the hell is Colette top tier? Para spam? I mean, yeah, it's her best thing and clearly some bad bug or balancing but I don't know if it's THAT great. And spamming it would be so incredibly boring.
This list perfectly mimics my experience with each party member. Except i might rank loyd a bit higher due to his top tier combo abilities for farming grade. Other than that, great list.
Something to consider as well is certain characters can abuse spell canceling. I'd put Regal and Zelos/Kratos easily in top tier for this alone, you can do infinite combos and completely break the combat system, other characters like Presea don't have access to this at all so their combos are much shorter and more linear. Sheena and Lloyd do have some things they can link/cancel together (SS Pinion spam, Lloyd picking things off the ground with Demon Fang etc) but Kratos/Zelos and Regal have so much easy to access potential for infinite combos.
Yeah I played around with spell canceling in a recent playthrough and it's totally nuts. And Sheena CAN spell cancel off her summons and doesn't need to be in over limit to summon corrin, I think. It's not that useful on her compared to the other characters, and I'm not particularly skilled with the game so I can't do anything too crazy beyond just keeping enemies stun locked, so maybe her spell canceling is basically irrelevant if the other characters can go even crazier. All that said it only works on the original GC version, and is at best an exploit and at worst a glitch, so not factoring it into a tier list makes sense to me.
@@noisepollution4473 Good point! Spell cancelling actually does exist in the HD remaster too (Steam version, etc) but they made it harder to access. You have to have a spell usage rate of 999 to be able to spell cancel in that version which is very unfortunate that they locked it behind usage rate. But if you're ever bored and doing an HD playthrough it's a lot of fun to mess around with.
@@JonGhaly I'm on the 4th playthrough and none of my Genis spells are over 500 usage yet. Granted he isn't a frequent team member, esp past Tower of Salvation, but so is the availability of Kratos/Zelos/Regal. I'd imagine more casual fans won't even play past 1 NG+. If we rank members based on their maxxed potential, sure, but talking practically, I wouldn't put Kratos/Zelos as the best. Like, once they get their necessary setups to shine, Lloyd would probably have destroyed Niflheim 10 times over with Nebilim.
Man some people are really salty about this list!! Tbh I found Lloyd is this game to be good. Issue is they made do many fighters great. I always usee Kratos and Zelos oer Lloyd because his well.... less complexed moveset. Best DPS in the game? Possibly. But that is all he is.
Personally I don't use raine anymore and focus completely on offense and getting high hit combos. Genus can be good if you have him spam his s teir spells for combos
I love Red Mages, but I dislike Zelos on principle. 😆 But Kratos is amazing. Lloyd definitely belongs in Top Tier; his combo potential is amazing, and he is arguably the most fun character to use because of it. I actually spent most of my battle time using Sheena because she is my favorite character in this game. And little Corrine is so cute!
Oof, it hurt to hear my main put in Low Tier, but honestly I can't argue with those points. He and Raine are both pretty useless when they run out of TP, and I think Genis's melee attack is slower than Raine's. Although, I still prefer to play him over any other character in th game.

I think you under estimate casters and over estimate physical attackers, genis end game has 0 to no TP issues is able to deal massive damage due to elemental weakness system AND if you mix physical attackers in can keep enemies stun locked forever due to cyclone/ prism stars combo casters are burst dps in tales games and if you give them enough time to cast and time your physical attacks to start comboes just as the spell ends, you can keep enemies from ever attacking, also as a presea main, I say regal is God tir, hes got healing, good defense and one of the few characters with an infinite combo due to crescen strike> eagle dive > spell cancel repeat.
There is no way you actually played through the game. The mispronounced names just the lack of knowledge of the characters is noticeable. Raine as a God tier? Not with her bad Ai, even if she is the only true healer.

Agreed. Having her around was great in the Niflheim book as her elemental change skills made battles in the later floors easier. At least for me.

No doubts there……..but remember; Genus’s magic gets stronger and he starts getting access to spells like Explosion, Ground dasher, Tidal wave, Absolute, Indignation, Meteor storm. All of those spells being cast one right after another absolutely devastates enemies and bosses. Now, am I being a bit biased? Prolly but he’s always put in the work so he ends up on my team.
Honestly choices matter and all and setting up a party is always down to your individual judgment

Once you learned enemy patterns and go full combo, you don't need a healer.
But sheena is really great. She is the only debuffer of the team, she can summon and i don't think that tp is a problem if you can use items, she has differerent abilities like elemental attacks, shw can steal life and tp, resurect allies and is preatty fast. And her best combo is the infinite attack with her serpent seal pinion

just going by the gameplay vid, he doesn't seem to know how to use her. she has a steep learning curve that many won't bother learning cause she's not spammy.

You can tell a lot of thought was put into this video when Colette's name is misspelt "Collette" and Presea is called "PREH-see-uh" (it's "pruh-SAY-uh")
Sarcasm aside, I'm also really confused why Genis is Low Tier while Raine is "God" Tier, when the only reason given for Genis being low is "TP consumption", which is a MUCH bigger problem for Raine, who also needs to heal constantly to be useful, unlike Zelos/Kratos who can quickly build up TP on their own. Kratos/Zelos occasionally stepping back to heal, or even someone just using lemon gels and life bottles is often more than enough to make Raine unnecessary if you play well. She's most helpful on Mania, really, and only really "necessary" for a few boss fights because of her team healing spells.
TP is also really not a problem in this game if you're playing it right (especially with the various EX Skills and accessories that reduce or heal TP consumption), and Genis tends to be much more useful overall for the pure damage most of his Tier 3 spells have, and all of the unisons he can trigger with other characters (especially in Chronicles). Raine's main benefits are her buffs (which are nice but not necessary, cooking can also partially substitute this) and her light spells (which are nice, but again, never a necessity, especially if she's healing most of the time anyway). Her only 100% useful "no other character has this" specialty is healing everyone at once with nurse/revitalize, which can be ignored if played well except for a few select bosses on the hardest difficulty.
Also, you mentioned the characters could be AI but hardly talked about their AI. Raine's AI is AWFUL and fails to heal usefully, spamming nurse and revitalize when only a single character is injured, or resurrection AFTER someone's been revived with a life bottle, among many many many other things. Genis' AI has never given me any problems on the other hand, aside from walking too close to the enemy at times (which Raine does just as often, and is more frustrating when she dies due to the sudden lack of a healer as opposed to temporarily losing a 2nd/3rd damage output). Also going by AI, Presea's is much better than Zelos/Kratos by default, unless you turn off their spells (maybe it's just me but they always decide to cast at the worst times when left on). Lastly, having a party of 3 frontliners + Raine isn't necessarily better since that means her AI is split between healing three people taking damage instead of two, and the extra crowdedness in the frontlines means unless you're careful with what techs the AI can use, it can be annoying to get the combos off that you want due to being interrupted by the AIs.
tl;dr Raine being THREE tiers above Genis makes 0 sense unless you're really, really bad at the game and using her as a constant crutch. They're both 'squishy' spell casters, one is really good at damage and the other at healing, both variably useful. Also, on GameCube, Genis with Randomizer ex skill and Devil's Arm is cracked due to being able to instant-cast his strongest spells multiple times in a row
@Ace Man2k Genis easily does ~2400 damage with Prism Swords every time he casts it, not including Int bonus, and with the Randomizer EX Skill equipped his casting time is near 0~2s leaving only a small endlag delay before he can instant recast again. Lloyd meanwhile can only reach around 800~900 at base Str with a basic combo if all his hits land. In fact, nearly all of Genis' Level 3 spells w/Randomizer have higher damage output than any of Lloyd's techs considering he can't spell cancel.
Meanwhile, Raine's Ray is technically more damaging but significantly less accurate than most of Genis' spells and overall does less because not all of the hits will connect. There's no other reason to bring Raine into a battle--her healing is only an advantage if you're bad--and considering Zelos/Kratos should be focused on spell-cancelling, there should never be a situation where you have more than one mage (Genis). So mage spells overlapping each other should never be an issue.
Having four melee is a bad idea because everyone trying to crowd around one enemy means everyone ends up getting in the way of each other's combos. Meanwhile, almost all of Genis' spells stunlock and hold the enemy in place, making it easier for the remaining 3 melee characters to get combos off.

I think you're underrating Genis, but even if you aren't, he will always be on my battle team because his spell chants are pure joy to hear, even the 98648556th time. I will always smile when I hear "It's pancake time!"

With Symphonia mechanics, 2 mages are pretty useless due to the fact they cannot cast spells until the animation of other spell is complete! So if Genis use a spell, Raine cannot cast her healing spell immediately, make other members suffer! :(
The only attack spell we need in this game is Photon and Photon! Photon is insane, fast casting, fast animation, 100% accuracy, 100% stagger, 100% raise downed enemies up even on bosses (except light-immune enemies)! Although it's useless in the first phase of the final boss but that's only it!
Her 2 Mystic Artes are quite good too, they all deal all-screen AOE damage! Especially Fairy Circle deal damage and fully all-screen AOE heal which is the best Mystic Arte in the game!
@@aceman2k320 Actually, everyone knows that but low tier spells are not strong and spells in this game does not enough damage. Instead of that, use other characters are better. I never use Zelos, Kratos's spells because they are better to be frontline fighters.
Genis is fragile. he cannot withstand a single hit from Abyssion. And AI in this game sucks you know. Mage characters love to draw near to enemies to cast spells despite you told them to stay far away.

My preferable party was Lloyd, Sheena (she's alright), Raine and Zelos/Kratos.
I replaced Sheena with Genus. His spells can come in clutch. But if you don’t like Genus, Regal is a beast.
I always play as Lloyd. Kratos/Zelos is my second, Raine as a healer cuz I play on Mania, and Genis as my magic user. If I’m ever in a pinch, I use the Ultimate Attack w/ Ray & Indignation for the Prism Stars attack. Does a lot of damage.
Why is Collete higher than Lloyd and Genis? That's ridiculous
how Colette is only TopTier when she can poison the hardest boss and shred his hp like nothing? also she can cancel spell's of most things with ray satellite and triple ray satellite
Yes, Colette is the best character by far.
If you're playing as genis, you can make all your spells cost zero mana via the combo ex skill that lets you save spells until after you attack. Not only does it let you save it for an opportune moment, but it removes the spell cost

Sheena excels at very quickly knocking down enemies and making them weaker. I think you'r meant to occasionally switch to her, screw with an enemy's defences, knock them back, then switch to a phys or mage and cast spells, or starting a spell with Genis/Raine through shortcuts and covering them while you debuff and stun enemies so they dont walk out of the spell radius. Plus having her in the party means summons. Sheena's not good as a solo character, she's all about supporting a party composition and being smart about it. Which is why i think they gave her a solo boss in a hard as fuck sidequest lol

I don't get it? Tempest is the best mobility tech in the game. Lloyd moves very fast. All that really matters in this game is staggering bosses. Lloyd can tank everything. If you disable Genis' advanced artes, they will never delay Raine's healing artes which ensure you will get faster healing. And with some equipment adjustment, genis can cast basic spells very fast. Additionally, his presence and threat level will aggro enemies which will take them off your back for a moment.
I'd personally just rather have an AI operating a ranged unit than a melee one since Lloyd has more than enough techs that rapidly land hits to stagger enemies and allows you to keep close, maintain control and be aggressive without being hit. On top of that, having Genis there means enemies are not always going to go after and just dogpile raine.]
So you set up that Raine Llloyd Genis combo and then you solidify it with Zelos or Kratos, who have all the major strengths of a brawler but also the basic strengths of Raine and Genis.
Having some friends to play the game in co op can possibly help alleviate any problems you have with the ai. If you're friends aren't as competent as you are or more, you might have new problems to deal with. 😅

@@locloudanerpg I try to play with friends on Parsec or Steam remote play. Unfortunately I can rarely find friends to play it with. When I do get people to play with, it's so fun.
Imo the tier list would be:
Low: Sheena, Presea. Sheena's just not up to par with the rest and Prsea's animations are too slow.
Mid: Raine, Colette, Genis. Issue with Raine is if you include AI into the argument then she and Genis suck due to trying to kill themselves too much by trying to melee enemies, Colette while having the same spell canceling advantages as the High tier just always feels too squishy and awkward to play and her AI's iffy at times (if she had healing/status curing (only Raine has it in the game)/reviving without the need to die in her kit she'd go up a tier though and the PS3 version gave her some new spells that were good)...Honestly the AI of these 3 hurts all 3 to some degree and it wasn't really that great for full on spellcasters with no melee potential (Colette has some melee so she's not hurt as bad as Genis/Raine and Zelos/Kratos can go full melee if you wanted to so they don't need to rely on spells).
High: Zelos/Kratos (mostly the same with slight differences to animations). They're mainly here due to spell cancelling, they're not higher mainly due to when playing them their animations feel awkward/don't combo as well as the Top tier imo.
Top: Lloyd, Regal. Lloyd mainly cause all of his artes/Techs combo/flow into each other with a more natural and fluid feeling than all the above characters and his animations are just much faster than High tier characters, Regal for the same reasons as well as having access to spell cancelling (imo Regal's the best in regards to how it feels to play him in the game). Only real downsides to these two would be their more single target focused (especially Regal).
Outside of the tier list if I go by the characters I'd play the most in order from most played to least it'd be:
1st Regal
2nd Lloyd
3rd Zelos or Kratos
4th Colette
5th Sheena
6th Presea
7th Genis
8th Raine
I'll be honest I'm just not really into full on mages...even with games after Symphonia I'm not that big into the magic knight characters until Graces F due to the spellcasting time being so long in all games up until Graces F even for base spells.
And if I go by which characters have the best AI it'd probably be:
1st Lloyd
2nd Zelos or Kratos
3rd Regal
4th Presea
5th Colette
6th Sheena
7th Genis
8th Raine
Colette, squishy ? She has Life Thief + Super Guard, and if you go full melee with her (which you absolutely should do), she won't die and will kill the enemies extremely quickly, her offensive skillset is broken (and Toss Hammer is the best attack in the game by far, to the point it makes the game pointless).

I love Sheena as a character. Third behind Lloyd and Colette. But yeah, as a fighter, she's pretty bad. Sucks they did her dirty.

This list perfectly mimics my experience with each party member. Except i might rank loyd a bit higher due to his top tier combo abilities for farming grade. Other than that, great list.
Something to consider as well is certain characters can abuse spell canceling. I'd put Regal and Zelos/Kratos easily in top tier for this alone, you can do infinite combos and completely break the combat system, other characters like Presea don't have access to this at all so their combos are much shorter and more linear. Sheena and Lloyd do have some things they can link/cancel together (SS Pinion spam, Lloyd picking things off the ground with Demon Fang etc) but Kratos/Zelos and Regal have so much easy to access potential for infinite combos.
Yeah I played around with spell canceling in a recent playthrough and it's totally nuts.
And Sheena CAN spell cancel off her summons and doesn't need to be in over limit to summon corrin, I think. It's not that useful on her compared to the other characters, and I'm not particularly skilled with the game so I can't do anything too crazy beyond just keeping enemies stun locked, so maybe her spell canceling is basically irrelevant if the other characters can go even crazier.
All that said it only works on the original GC version, and is at best an exploit and at worst a glitch, so not factoring it into a tier list makes sense to me.
@@noisepollution4473 Good point! Spell cancelling actually does exist in the HD remaster too (Steam version, etc) but they made it harder to access. You have to have a spell usage rate of 999 to be able to spell cancel in that version which is very unfortunate that they locked it behind usage rate. But if you're ever bored and doing an HD playthrough it's a lot of fun to mess around with.
@@JonGhaly I'm on the 4th playthrough and none of my Genis spells are over 500 usage yet. Granted he isn't a frequent team member, esp past Tower of Salvation, but so is the availability of Kratos/Zelos/Regal. I'd imagine more casual fans won't even play past 1 NG+. If we rank members based on their maxxed potential, sure, but talking practically, I wouldn't put Kratos/Zelos as the best. Like, once they get their necessary setups to shine, Lloyd would probably have destroyed Niflheim 10 times over with Nebilim.

Lloyd definitely belongs in Top Tier; his combo potential is amazing, and he is arguably the most fun character to use because of it.
I actually spent most of my battle time using Sheena because she is my favorite character in this game. And little Corrine is so cute!

Oof, it hurt to hear my main put in Low Tier, but honestly I can't argue with those points. He and Raine are both pretty useless when they run out of TP, and I think Genis's melee attack is slower than Raine's. Although, I still prefer to play him over any other character in th game.

I think you under estimate casters and over estimate physical attackers, genis end game has 0 to no TP issues is able to deal massive damage due to elemental weakness system AND if you mix physical attackers in can keep enemies stun locked forever due to cyclone/ prism stars combo casters are burst dps in tales games and if you give them enough time to cast and time your physical attacks to start comboes just as the spell ends, you can keep enemies from ever attacking, also as a presea main, I say regal is God tir, hes got healing, good defense and one of the few characters with an infinite combo due to crescen strike> eagle dive > spell cancel repeat.
Sheena is cool, but yeah… she is not really that good.

There is no way you actually played through the game. The mispronounced names just the lack of knowledge of the characters is noticeable. Raine as a God tier? Not with her bad Ai, even if she is the only true healer.
