      It is about the moment, that moment you see in the video.. Not before and not after..
      The Sweden player was smart to play it that way, and the Chinese player admit it, first with anger look and than smile for it..

    • @Souleater_XXX
      @Souleater_XXX Před 13 dny

      He cannot do that. He obviously didn't see that it was a heavy backlooping snakeshot. He cannot just commit himself and go around the table on a "hunch" because this will leave him insanely open afterwards. No one actually dares that except Moregardh and Xu Xin back in the day.
      Fan couldn't see what Moregardh actually did under the table in that insanely short amount of time under pressure. There was just no way he expected that. That's why it's called a "magic trick". It only works once but you cannot prevent it from happening once, if it is executed this perfectly.
      In an Olympic final this is mindblowing and Truls will forever be my personal hero for eliminating Wang Chuqin in 1/8 finals. I still haven't had the chance to watch this match (can someone provide a valid link?), but it will forever hold very special meaning. No one else deserved Olympic silver more than Moregardh this time, I wouldn't have accepted anyone else in finals.
      Gold would've earned him the title of Olympic China Titan Slayer forever, but Fan did actually deserve gold. He took the heat from Harimoto and went into God mode aferwards. Missed his chance against Ma Long in 2020.....
      It was the same when Ryu Seung Min defeated Wang Hao in Olympic finals 2004. There are these unique historic table tennis moments and we just witnessed one in 2024.
      I'm still so happy being part of this (A)LIVE this time

    • @danfors1333
      @danfors1333 Před měsícem +6

      Yes, and when above table they usually hide spin by quickly moving the racket two different directions but too quick for eye to determine which direction ball is hit. Sometimes body parts are used to block view of spin, often the other arm or the head. There's also constant turning of the racket to switch between black/red side which have different effect on ball.

    The problem with this shot is that it was a zero risk shot. The Swede was on the brink of losing and this was just an attempt at highlight reel

      It's often like that in table tennis. some situations are more important than others. If the set is about to be lost anyway then the losing player might save mental focus for next set and meanwhile do some fancy silly trick shots just for fun or adjusting different details with no pressure before getting focused again. In this case he was already losing the match, yes.

      'Snake' is a technique where you hit the ball from underneath the table so that the opponent can't see how you hit the ball. The hit has added a lot of spin making the direction of the bounce unpredictable. The technique is less reliable than other shots, so you rarely see it at a professional level.

      Fun fact, there has only ever been 1 non asian player to win gold in table tennis at an Olympic game. That person is another Swede named Jan Ove Waldner who won in Barcelona in 1992. He is a legend in China.
