    Objectives
~ Learn about the functions of oxytocin
~ Identify how oxytocin may impact mood, cognition, behavior (including addiction) and social functioning
~ Explore current research involving the use of intranasal oxytocin for treatment
    What is Oxytocin
~ Oxytocin can function as a:
~ Stress-coping molecule with protective effects especially in the face of adversity or trauma
    ~ Anti-inflammatory
    ~ Antioxidant
    ~ Immunomodulator
~ Oxytocin also enhances socialization including motivation for pair bonding, sexual activity, affiliative preferences, empathy / emotional IQ (social salience hypothesis) and parental behaviors
~ The effects of oxytocin are context-dependent (an environment of safety and cooperation vs. protection) and altered by experience, especially early life experience
    Oxytocin
~ Oxytocin impacts dopaminergic activity which is crucial not only for reward and motivated behavior and the expression of affiliative behaviors
~ In response to extreme stress, oxytocin can activate vasopressin receptors
~ Individuals with low concentrations of endogenous oxytocin might be more likely to experience increased vasopressin-like reactions when given oxytocin
~ Bacterial diversity and composition in the gut uniquely influence the release of oxytocin
~ Gut microbiome changes in response to stress and communicates these changes, via the vague nerve, to the brain
    Summary
~ The exploration of the impact of oxytocin on the mind and body has only just begun
~ Oxytocin can promote both prosocial/affiliative and protective/aggressive behaviors
~ Oxytocin release is based on prior learning and current contextual cues.
~ In the presence of a threat and a need to protect, oxytocin can activate vasopressin receptors.
~ Oxytocin can promote fear processing and aggression when the person does not feel safe, and especially in the aftermath of an acute stressor.

What would the long term effects be on a person, or population, that took oxytocin unnecessarily?
In other words...if a group of "normal" people were given oxytocin...what behaviors could we expect to see?
Edit: particularly in males with regards to chronic stress

And define and come up with actionable protocols for TBI patients but a plan for doctors. I dont have the energy with my TBI. This is something with your setup and reach that would be effective. Were on the same page and I think this can help alot of people.

at 26:19 I see an error. You said "The endocannabinoids..THC And CBD". I believe you meant exogenous cannabinoids. They are derived from exogenous plants. Endocannabinoids would be Anandamide, 2-AG and ethanolamide (may be spelt incorrectly). I am not picky or trying to call you out on you're errors, they are honest mistakes I believe. If I was to make a video I would appreciate it if someone filled me in on errors or incorrect information.

    • @DocSnipes
      @DocSnipes  Před 6 měsíci

You are right, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol) are not endocannabinoids. Endocannabinoids are compounds produced naturally within the human body, and they interact with the endocannabinoid system. THC and CBD are phytocannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. They interact with the same system in the body but are derived externally from plants rather than being produced internally. Thanks for watching the video

38:06 As a person with severe Body Dysmorophia & Oxytocin problems, I'll give my perspective:
People who have a distorted self-image are Extremely self-centered bordering on Narcissistic. As a result (or Because of this-), they have lots of other problems & fixing their oxytocin issues, simply Takes Off the Mask & reveals their real personality.

I hate to be so glowing, but in mythological terms you would be akin to "The Goddess of Love" of Higher Education. Practical advice from a Goddess who "understands" on a deeper level 🧞‍♀. I have a goddess "outfit". Maybe I will put in on when it gets warm (it's for the summer), but it is gold, with gold sandals, and my skin will be golden brown from the sun. I bought it a few years ago but never wore it! Maybe I am identifying with you, Doc Snipes. How much fun is that! It's a little like you are a ROLE MODEL., one of my first (my mother was a ***tch and a cold narcissist, competing to the end with her daughter, and I did not want to be that).
