  • Another 3-3 week for the Detroit Tigers has the "Days of Roar" crew contemplating some tough questions for the ball club. After discussing how the team looks without Kerry Carpenter, Mark and Evan focus in on comments made by president of baseball operations Scott Harris on the MLB Network. How far away are the Tigers from having an established core and what does that timeline even look like? After the break, the guys also examine Scott Harris' comments on Javier Báez. Although the conversation on Baez's diminished hitting seems all but exhausted, Evan has some potentially intriguing data on the struggling shortstop's swing. Later in the pod, the guys cover Kirk Gibson's recent call with 97.1 The Ticket. Are we all being a bit too negative on a team that's only a few games out of a wildcard spot?

Hearing the talk concerning Javys swing approach, I am reminded of the story about Yogi Berra telling Casey Stengal, basically that he couldn't think & swing at the same time. Wonder if all that thinking has Javys timing off. And does that inhibition slow his swing down? Is his hard hit rate down? I think Evan is on to something. Just wish the Tigers would figure it out. Let that boy boogie woogie, if that's what it takes. Great show again guys. Thank you, really appreciate being able to hear the inside stuff.

Two words: acquiring talent. I was never a fan of "Trader Dave" Dombrowski, but I respected his ability to be on the hunt for talent to improve the Tigers. He didn't sit pat on waiting for talent to emerge. This team needs a foundational trade.

Gio for leadoff. Contact hitters that walk help the offence.

At this point, all I'm looking for is improvement of the team as a whole. I'd love to see better hitting but I'm not holding my breath.

So, KC loses 106 games last season and turns it around in one season. Cleveland is playing consistently good baseball and winning constantly. The Tigers are not performing consistently and to me that's on management. How is it that the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox and Braves are consistently competing for the playoffs and championships and the Tigers are consistently mediocre? Its management, its the mentality of the organization, its a mentality of performance, getting the most out of the players you brought into your organization. The Tigers need to change their mentality to get to a level of consistently winning rather than consistently being mediocre. Also, there has been a pattern of these young players constantly getting injured. This pattern seems to indicate these players are not getting the proper nutrition, the 90 essential nutrients required to keep the body health and to allow the body to recover from the stress placed upon it from the daily grind of baseball. Its time for this organization to expect their players to perform rather than making excuses or always referring to rebuilding or building the team. Its time to get motivated to win!
