  • Hello Care Partners,
Self Awareness, when it comes to brain change, is an important topic all caregivers need to understand. Does your person know they have Dementia? My Mom did not know and might have raised a fist if you questioned her on it. I needed to understand what made her react in that way. I was determined to find the answers.
Now, In my experience, I feel it is vital to learn to recognize the difference because the care plans are so very different. Today we are backing up to review some common signs and symptoms of Dementia then discuss the more prevalent diagnosis.
Ultimately, I want you to be a great detective not a judge and be able to identify their awareness and join them on their journey. YOU GOT THIS!!
    Enjoy,
    Teresa

Folding laundry (sometimes just a bundle of kitchen towels pulled out of the drawer and warmed up in the dryer) gives my mil purpose.

My mum will say 'there is something wrong with me' at times but that's about it. She isn't aware of her alzheimers now that it has progressed. Only at the very beginning did she complain about memory loss. N9w when she is feeling down and having a moment she asks for her mum and that is hard to see as she cries and almost works herself into a state because she can't get a hold of her. I'm just glad that it only lasts about 30-60mins. In these moments redirecting doesn't help at all and only a drive to 'her mums' helps a little. And this is my opportunity to take her out to do some supermarket shopping or even go for a coffee because she has by then, forgotten why we went out.

@@vickyrojas1999 I am so sorry. He needs more help now than ever before as he will probably continue to make more mistakes. I hope this video was helpful and maybe you can delay that divorce and get some help. If you want more details on Anosognosia go to season 1 episode 18. Let me know how I can help. Take care, Teresa
