what mechanism is that? Why did the Yamato just explode...
4 citadels - meaning 4 shells did maximum damage on Yami which has a slight vulnerable spot under the guns. Honestly he got a bit lucky here because the enemy shot too soon and so didn't do the same to him.

The Yamato has a poorly designed citadel that is easy to pen when angled, as long as you hit the "cheeks" under the front turret. The mechanism is an accuracy boost that can be activated when you hit enough shots.
The comment section on that replay is typical EU gold
Also this satsuma player has a lot of questionable decisions to think about
