    If you want to add a rear deck but don’t want it sticking out as you drive down the road, why not build one that has hinges where it attaches so when you’re ready to go, just fold it up against the back door & latch it in securely in place?

    Hi David;If You do decide to add a rear deck on the bus even though it's a really long bus, You could build some heavy duty rollers between the two chassis frame rails and have a "PULL OUT DECK", and just pull it out when You are parked somewhere,then push it back in place and lock it down when You get ready to drive the bus!😁 I'm currently looking for a 45 foot transit style/flat nose school bus with the engine in front either Thomas Built, Bluebird,or International, with either the 7.3 liter Power Stroke Turbo Diesel V8 or the International/Navistar 7.6 liter DT466 engine and the largest "NON COMPUTERIZED ALISON AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WITH OVERDRIVE! So I can do an RV Conversion for myself and my cat Luna aka LooneyBin!😁😸

    I must have missed the video that you introduced your wife by name.. I'm glad she has become more involved in your videos. Congratulations on the bus purchase. You seem to have a gut feeling that this will be a great project. I'm looking forward to watching the transformation.

    • @HOODS
      @HOODS  Před 2 lety +1

      This project really excites me. Because it is one of the first major steps that I've taken in the direction of going debt free. It's been an extreamly difficult journey to get to this point. The bus will serve as a place to live once we sell our home and begin our journey to buying raw land and building a home from the ground up. I've never officially introduced my wife because she doesn't really want to be in my videos. Including my daughter or oldest son who is now 18 and moved out. My youngest son Branden makes appearances now and then. My wife over the years has met many of my subscribers and become friends with many of them and therefore she is getting more comfortable with being on camera since she actually knows alot of you guys now. From meetups and such.

  • @marthajessiejamesartscraft5103

    Happy for you Dave! I saw some comments saying freedom. I like that for a name.. Fuel Guage is out too huh? Yeah air leaks can be a nightmare as well. Prayers for success fairly quickly..
    Maybe talk to some of the guys at Tyson, they chopped a few busses for their chicken catching crew. Eww the stuff out of the air tank.

    You don't need a CDL unless you are driving the bus for Commercial purposes. It's literally in the title Commercial Driver's License. How do you think people are driving class A motorhomes, that are actually bigger than a school bus, without a CDL?

    Among sources for "skoolie base" buses are companies that transition school buses for contractors and districts. Near me is the home base of the Brandywine Companies (in the Prince George's County, MD town of the same name); they work with both contractors and school districts (including all three of the DMV's largest school districts (Fairfax County, MCPS (Montgomery County Public Schools, MD) and PGCPS (Prince George's County Public Schools, MD). What is amusing is that PGCPS itself has (and operates) a clearance center specifically for retiring school buses near here - with monthly auctions - this clearance center is strictly for the county's own buses. Yes; a "skoolie hunter" should consider this particular clearance center - for two reasons: PGCPS does not operate flat-face/"noseless" school buses. The other is - of course, they are close to the Brandywine Companies' home - and that base of parts pulled from "dead buses and commercial vehicles".

    How do you legally drive a used bus from lot to destination? Many buy a school bus to convert to skoolie, but much needs be done to qualify as Skoolie, so what do you do in the meantime for plate and insurance?

    • @SwiftKing1
      @SwiftKing1 Před 2 měsíci

      If you get it from marketplace, you don't need insurance. whos going to hit a yellow bus anyways? lol, but if you want the best deal, going to need to use an auction, but you need commercial vehicle for personal use insurance :/
