  • We appear to be in a new investment era, one of higher inflation and higher interest rates. It is a huge change from the “great moderation,” the multi-decade stretch of low inflation and falling interest rates since the early 1980’s.
With consumer prices soaring to 40-year highs the Federal Reserve has pivoted from its unusual role as inflation promoter to its traditional role of inflation fighter, which signals higher interest rates ahead.
Major macro shifts like these are always turbulent. How to navigate them without damaging your portfolio or psyche is our focus this week. Our guest is well suited to tackle this challenge because of his track record of capital preservation and long-term compounding.
Noted global value manager Matthew McLennan has a proven track record of building lasting wealth by investing in resilient investments, including gold.

There is a reason governments hold gold rather than selling to pay off debt etc.

I do prefer gold vs crypto. But gold shares a similarity with Bitcoin.
You have to spend a lot of energy to mine. Extract it from the earth's crust only to burry it under some bank vault.

Touts Oracle b/c of continued growth and high FCF generation.
Touts prudent, founder-led management teams w/ a track record of adaptive behavior and thoughtful capital stewardship
Touts the value of brand equity.
Notes the accelerating shift to EVs
Yet Mr. McClellan fails to mention the foremost company that covers all of these bases with spades: Tesla.

The Inflation diversification investment recommendations in this video are excellent. The take away is serious consideration of investments across asset classes. Forget the crypto and listen to Consuelo's suggestions at the end of this video. They are as good as gold.

@wealthtrack Any chance of seeing an informative video regarding health coverage options for an early retirement couple? I know Cobra is one way but from what I hear it's limited to a certain amount of time after severance from my job and I'm trying to understand what other options there are for us. Thanks.

See if you are eligible for ACA through the exchanges. At least you would have some coverage and COBRA is snake oil.

If the narrative for gold is fear, pandemic, current geopolitical fears macroeconomic factors, and fed activities have been priced in. Gold from 2017 to 2020 has mainly front run these factors. Gold is in a very delicate risky unforgiving potentially wealth preserving and equally wealth destroying position. Investment driven by fear is not concordant or conducive to higher level cognitive function, perception, processing, and planning. Over the life of his average client any position more than a low percentage hedge will be unlikely to be of high utility to a client portfolio. While he might have to hold his nose, a well timed crypto entry position will probably perform a much more potent hedge function. If you are dead set on gold, historical bull runs last for years . Take some time studying that one. I really want to consider gold but the more I study the subject weakens my impression on its portfolio use case applicability.

Gold is not a investment because it has no risk but instead is just asset to stored in case of an emergency like when perhaps the dollar becomes damn near worthless.
