Wood Stove Ash Bucket Hobo Meal

- One thing I've always disliked about my wood stove is that it doesn't have a ash pan. I have to shovel the ashes directly out of the wood stove fire box. And no matter how hard I try, there are always coals that end up in the ash bucket. I've always hated "wasting" those coals! So today, the idea came to me that I could use the ash bucket and coals to cook hobo meals. Since I had some chicken and potatoes handy, I cut up some potatoes, seasoned both the meat and potatoes with salt and pepper and double wrapped it all in foil and buried it in my ash bucket. About an hour and 15 minutes later, I dug it out and had an awesome dinner.

A good idea to use those hot ashes when cleaning out the stove.
Missing those front porch Friday videos hope you get back to making them soon.
Not a hobo meal anymore. Looks good
Thanks, it was. In winter I do a lot of these when I get lazy and need to clean out the ashes of the wood stove.
more seasoning!
Some days I like a lot of lemon pepper as well!
Can I do this with fish?
Yes
Yes, but it doesn't take nearly as long with fish! Maybe 30 minutes depending on how hot your coals are.
Thanks everyone
@@Robert-jx7ne You're welcome. While I prefer fried fish, I have done this while out camping with the fish I caught. Really works well with trout. I add some lemon pepper and it doesn't take a long at all.
