I'm Rachel: wife of 6 years, mom of 3 little boys, and caretaker of my home. I seek to pursue excellence in my home--learning skills that challenge me to be a better individual, wife, mother, and homemaker. I enjoy learning and teaching others how to try old-fashioned skills like cooking from scratch, baking bread, gardening, preserving, stocking a pantry, and more. It brings me joy to care for my family well!
Beeswax wrap would probably work to wrap your dough.
I really enjoyed the video! I think that you are very down to earth in what you are doing. and I appreciate that! a lot of the stuff that you are doing, to me personally would be intimidating. But I know obviously that it works for you and yours! keep what you are doing and share with us because we don't have those skills and maybe we would like to learn those skills! xoxo
Thank you for the feedback. 🙂 I like to show people that it's never too late to learn! I didn't see a garden until college and learned to can with two toddlers. 🙂 If anyone wants to learn, they are capable! 👍🏻

Chuck is the best! I love that show! I haven't watched TV in a long time, because I find I'd rather watch CZcams. Thanks for sharing your pantry challenge!
I often find myself watching CZcams instead of TV, too. There is always something new to learn or watch!
we would always use semi frozen butter so it was less likely to melt when cutting in before pressing into ball. we cut the butter in it old school style, the way my grandma did it. fork and a butter knife. we would wrap the dough in two sheets of wax paper before chilling. then when rolling out, we'd have one sheet on counter, one on top of dough. would roll and rotate to help get that circle shape. it would keep the dough from sticking to roling pin and counter without the need to flour either as that can throw off the dough
I have a 12 yr old with moderately severe autism and she likes her food" hotted up " in the micro-oven and "Colded down" in the "cooler" (Placed in the fridge). I hear her older twin sister's friends say they cant eat left-overs and my daughter laughs and says left-overs are the best. The reason for this is because her mom makes 3-4 different dishes on Sundays and Wednesdays for food prep and we eat on those for 3-5 days before I will cook again. Because of this, everything she eats is usually what others consider "left-overs". I have so enjoyed watching you prepare your family's food and look forward to seeing more in the future.
Pie crust with lard is actually a lot easier than butter!
I love your down to Earth style and scrumptious looking food. Since I work from home, I often have to remember to put on some lipstick and a decent top before filming my pantry challenge videos. I have a whole new respect for mothers with young children after raising my niece from 15 months to 3.5 years old. Just wrestling her into and out of the car seat and having 2.5 seconds to think was a feat. You are amazing to get anything done with several little ones. Yet you make it look easy. :)
Good job, Rachel you’re an inspiration! I can’t wait to try the SD Pizza crust. Oh… what do I watch when cooking? I don’t. Pulled the plug >12 years ago and don’t miss it. Good music or chatting with a friend is my preference. During rest-breaks or days’ end, I do watch a couple of yt channels - like yours - for the learning opportunities they provide.
BTW, if u want a really quick way to cut in butter for pie crust, place dry ingredients into FP bowl fitted with blade in bottom and pulse couple of times. Add cold butter pieces and pulse about 5-9 times - DONE! I remove cover and blade and add cold water “manually” so I don’t risk over mixing. Try it. Quick and simple.
I'm rewatching Superstore - it reminds me of my retail days in my early 20s! Also, thanks for sharing the giggles from your "big boys" My kids are 15 and 17 and while I love the ages they are right now I miss those sweet giggles.
I keep my pie crust in a small Tupperware with a lid
Your pie crust looks fantastic and the pot pie looks yummy. I just made a chicken one last week and I will certainly be doing that again. God's blessings......🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for the encouragement! Pot pies are definitely comfort food for me. 🙂
I just found your videos. I would love to have your recipes. I give you a lot of credit with three tiny children and doing everything you do get done. You’re so sweet. Have a good day!
Thank you for your kind words! I make a lot of the same recipes and a lot of them are on my channel. 🙂 There will be more coming, too!
I just love you!!!! I am so glad to find you.... you are real and inspirational. Thank you!!!
You are so kind! Thanks for taking the time to write such a nice comment. :)
Shredding your cold butter with a cheese grater works great then you just mix with a fork ❤
Great tip!
You sure conquered the challenge! Nicely done! I know the recipients of your homemade food sure enjoy it. What’s not to love?! I look forward to watching more videos as you take on more challenges (like that pie crust work). I have no doubt you will rise to the occasion. 😃 (By the way, I’m watching Magnum, PI, the new series. I’m mid-way through season two!)
Have you ever tried bees wax wraps for your pie crusts?
I can say that I use my pastry blender the same way. Fascinating facts on the fresh milled bread. It is on my list to do. This year’s current plan is canning so maybe next year for a grain mill. I also want to do popcorn and I have to research because I heard many don’t do the corn meal. Chuck is a fun show!! We are watching Warrior Nun but it is pretty heavy but we are watching McGuyver with our teenager which is funny. I put pie crusts in plastic or glass storage containers because we don’t use plastic wrap.
I’m wanting to get into milling my own flour and sourdough too, great recipes!
Buy a pastry blender that have wires. Check restores. Know what you are up to I had four in five years. You do get there.good hope my dear. You are very sweet.
Try wrapping the pie dough in parchment paper
👀 for Martha Stewart’s video on easy pie crusts; it seems quite easy.
Your pie crust was excellent.
Thank you! No matter what it looks like, it always tastes good!
How about beeswax wrap as an alternative to plastic wrap?
I thought about that, but I've never used beeswax wraps. Do you like them?
Can I get the recipe for the crust thanks
Sorry I forgot to link it! Here you go: www.scratchpantry.com/recipes/flaky-pie-crust
Why u got the penny wise mouth lol u his daughter
My grandmother was a fantastic cook, but her pie crust looked horrible. It always tasted great, but it was a true patchwork. She never figured out how to make it look nice. Relax and be kind to yourself.
Thank you for the encouragement! It does always taste good. If I weren't taking pictures or videos of it, I'm sure no one would care. :)
