Geoff Tate was the lead singer at that time - one of the greatest male rock singers of all time his voice is majestic. Queensryche is metal band with a classically trained singer so it has a great melody and harmony throughout. Their music borders on metal and progressive. Their album Operation Mindcrime is a masterpiece and was a concept album in which it told a murder-mystery-conspiracy story, and each song was a different piece of the story and clue.
I highly recommend you listen to the songs: Operation Mindcrime, Eyes of a Stranger, I Don't Believe In Love, Jet City Woman, and Another Rainy Night Without You

It's a concept album/rock opera which tells the story of drug addict who is duped and brainwashed into becoming an assassin for an extremist group. You HAVE to listen to the songs in order. There’s so much talent in this band it’s criminal that they didn’t have more commercial success. They would never view this as a failure. Nearly 40 years later they’re still around but MOST of the world missed out on these guys and most of their catalogue.

This song is about lucid dreaming. Beautiful song! (There's a place I like to hide. A doorway that I run through in the night). Check out the lyrics if you get time. It's very cool! Well wait....... Here ya go!
    Hush now, don't you cry
Wipe away the teardrop from your eye
    You're lying safe in bed
It was all a bad dream spinning in your head
Your mind tricked you to feel the pain
Of someone close to you leaving the game of life
So here it is, another chance
Wide awake you face the day
    Your dream is over
    Or has it just begun?
    There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
    Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind
    Commanding in another world
    Suddenly, you hear and see
    This magic new dimension
    Will be watching over you
    (I-I-I)
Am gonna help you see it through
    (I-I-I)
Will protect you in the night
    (I-I-I)
Am smiling next to you, in Silent Lucidity
If you open your mind for me
You won't rely on open eyes to see
    The walls you built within
Come tumbling down, and a new world will begin
Living twice at once you learn
You're safe from the pain in the dream domain
A soul set free to fly
A round trip journey in your head
Master of illusion, can you realize
Your dream's alive, you can be the guide but...
    Will be watching over you
    (I-I-I)
Gonna help you see it through
    (I-I-I)
Will protect you in the night
    (I-I-I)
    Am smiling next to you.

In rock-n-roll/heavy metal, there are front men, lead singers, some are lucky to be both. The classically trained Geoff Tate is 100% lead singer! His voice has taken this genre to places rare have reached. They have celebrated hits like Empire, I Don't Believe In Love, Eyes Of A Stranger and Silent Lucidity, but my favorite is Jet City Woman.

Michael Kamen did the orchestral arrangements for both Queensrÿche's "Silent Lucidity" and Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb". Definitely similar sounds.

It’s funny how even songs you’ve known for decades can become so caught up with a scene from a show or movie, if that scene is impactful enough.
Supernatural (which I swear has the best goddamn music of any tv show, ever!) used this song dying a particular emotional scene. And even though I’ve known and loved this songs for many years before that episode came out, I still see Dean’s flinch and perfect single tear when I hear the song now.
But getting away from that, I also find that this song hits very differently as a parent. Before, it was just a pretty song, now it has meaning.

And the song is about dreaming, realizing you’re dreaming, and being able to understand and participate in the dream, even manipulating the outcome of that dream.

They were and will always be a phenomenon. This is back when musicians played their instruments and didn't rely so much on technology. Operation Mindcrime (the live version Livecrime is best to watch/listen to) is an absolute rock opera master piece. It is best to listen to it in entirety.

So glad you’re listening to Queensrÿche (pronounced queens-rike). Geoff Tate has a phenomenal voice; he is no longer their lead singer, but believe it or not, the current lead singer is also really incredible.
