Best Zones in Ranthambore National Park for Tiger Sighting | Full Information for Jungle Safari

Ranthambore National Park, the tiger reserve with the highest frequency of tiger sightings. Every year, lakhs of people visit this park in Sawai Madhopur. Ranthambore is so popular that the booking for the best zones is full 90 days before the travel date.
The brown deciduous forest of Rajasthan adds glory to the 65+ striped cats here. However, in Ranthambore, you are allocated a jeep driver and guide automatically. So, your chances of tiger sighting depend a lot on which zone you have booked.
No matter how good your guide or driver is, if you have booked a zone with a smaller number of tigers, there is nothing much that can be done. So, to have the best chance of sighting a tiger, it is important that you book the best zone for your safari.
First, let’s understand how many zones are there in Ranthambore National Park. In total, there are 10 zones in the park. There is no clear segregation of core and buffer zones but for those who visit frequently, know which zones are better than the others for tiger sighting. There is no specific name to the zones, rather simple numbers from 1 to 10.
Let’s start with the best zones first. Undoubtedly, the top two zones in Ranthambore are Zone 3 and Zone 4. Zone 3 is the most beautiful zone of Ranthambore.
It has the iconic Padam Talab lake and is known for its beauty. The entrance gate of this zone is a symbol of heritage. There is also Jogi Mahal and ancient remains of the fort here which adds to the glorious look of the zone.
Zone 4 on the other hand has Malik Talab, Singh Dwar, and is also home to the legendary tigress Machali.
The reason why these two zones are best for tiger sightings is the availability of food for tigers. With two big lakes, there are thousands of deer and other animals here. And hence, it is easier for the tigress to find food and raise cubs.
Because tigers don’t know the difference between zones, they can move between these zones. So we suggest going for both 3 and 4 at least once. If you are lucky, you can find a tiger on the main road which leads to these zones.
The current famous tigers in these zones are Ridhi-Sidhi, Arrowhead, T-120, Krishna, and a few more.
The next zone to visit is Zone 2. Once ruled by T-24 Ustad, who is now living his last days in Udaipur Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary, this zone is great for tiger sighting. Because this zone has lots of water holes, tigers are frequently seen here. Noorie, daughter of Noor is found in Zone 2 and 1 these days with her two cubs.
After this, come Zone 1 and Zone 6. These two zones are attached to each other, even though their entry and exit points are at opposite ends of the park. Tigers constantly move between these two zones. In Zone 1, there are many key spots where tigers are spotted frequently. Zone 6, this zone has grasslands and hills in the background. The size of this zone is smaller compared to other zones and hence, it’s easier to find tigers here.
T-8 a.k.a laadali rules Zone 6. While other famous tigers like Khumba, Noor, T-57, and 58 are frequently seen in Zone 1 and 6.
The next one is Zone 5. Even though this is the core zone of the park, this is not as good as the other ones, but certainly better than the buffer zones of 7-10. A lot of points in these zones are similar to Zone 4 and it is not uncommon to find tigers here.
Now coming to the leftover 4 zones of the park. If you cannot find a booking in Zone 1 to 6, we suggest going for Zone 10 of the park. Zone 10 has hilly tracks and is closer to some of the villages. Once ruled by the biggest tiger of Ranthambore, T-42 Fateh, this is home to T-108 Jai and T-99 Aishwarya who has cubs too.
Between Zones 7,8 and 9, the least famous is Zone 9 because it is 20 kilometers away from Zone 6 and hence a lot of time is consumed in just reaching the gate. For 7 and 8, the sightings are rare but not impossible.
Zones 6-10 of Ranthambore are newly built zones and entry gates for all these are made at the opposite end of the park. To reach these zones, you have to go through the old Sawai Madhopur city.

I went in zone 3. No sightings at all. Waste of money. All these things are scam to generate interest in people to visit the place. Probability of seeing a tiger is very very low in wild life. Tigers are always very secretive in their appearance. Don't listen to anyone. Just go if you have money and want to do some time pass. Seeing the tiger is complementary thing, main thing is giving fasle hope to people and sell tickets. I don't blame anyone, it's their livelihood.
No one guarantees a tiger sightings , they never function according to you, its not about money , you should never go in the wild with huge expectations, blame your luck not the money bro .

You didn't read the whole comment I guess, I don't blame anyone, it's there livelihood. Just people should know where their hard earned money is going. Thier money is going in travel, accommodation, food,shopping, safari etc. Seeing a tiger is a trap for you to spend on these things.
@@akshayshetty838 I have done around 6-7 safaris till now in Ranthambore and Corbett, but never had the luck to sight a tiger. Even I was disappointed the first time when we came back without sighting, but gradually I realised that it's a WILDLIFE SAFARI not a TIGER SAFARI, so if you go there to get the feel of the jungle, the thrill of riding in a jeep and chasing a tiger, I am sure you would enjoy. Last time we missed the tiger by just few seconds, but it was so much fun chasing the king of the jungle. The breeze of the jungle, the sounds of birds , just some deers grazing, everything is beautiful. If you enjoy such things then only you ll be able to have fun in a wildlife kinda vacation. ☺️

Hey I visited Ranthambore during year end and new year. We visited Zone 2,3,4 and 6. We sighted Noorie in Zone 2. In Zone 6 we sighted Laadli's Cub from far away. As it was raining 2 days prior we reach, it affect sightings as told by guides. We had best time in Ranthambore. The zones we visited are really Beautiful and different from each other.

For January, majority zones are already booked. But if you get, focus on this priority - 4,3,2,10,6,1,5,8
And both evening and morning are okay, but if you have just one slot, go for evening.

Thank you for excellent info on your channel about ranthambore. It really helps. I have booked for zone 4 canter morning safari on Apr 3 (Sunday). I'm traveling with a 2.5 year old. Should we go to Shilpagram office at 5 AM to board the canter? Or, do we have any other options? If we have to upgrade to jeep, is that possible to do so for the zone 3/4? You can go yourself or send someone from the hotel at a nominal fee.
You have to be there 1 to 1.5 hour before safari start time.

Hi Sakshi, in August, only zones 6-10 are open. There is monsoon season so sighting is highly unpredictable. But if you want, go for zones 6 or 10.

From your comments, I understand the best zone would be number 6, however, what are the chances of seeing tigers during these dates? Anyway, if not seeing tigers, can you do a safari through the opened zones anyway, and try to see other animals, or safaris are not done at all in July? I wonder if it is worth the trip from Agra. Once you’re there try and get the zone changed through the booking window. Not easy to do and depends on availability and comes with an extra cost.

Canter is not recommended if tiger sighting is priority. But if that’s what suits you, go for it.

I have created a SSO ID in Rajasthan govt. portal for the purpose of Ranthambore safari booking. But there is a problem. whenever I am trying to click to the forest and wildlife tab after loging in to the portal it says " your SSO ID is already logged with another browser" . This problem is persisting even after I am loging out of the system . Please tell me what to do. I can not book Ranthambore safari because of this. I haven't find any contact no. to contact with the portal management.
Please delete your history and wait for a while and relogin. Then it should allow you.

Hello. I am planning to go for Safari in mid April. Pls let me know which zone to prefer and whether to go for morning or evening safari.
If you have time, do both morning and evening. The jungle is different during each time of the safaris and its worthwhile to experience.
For zones, go for anything you get in this order 4,1,3,2,5,6.

I am willing to visit Btwn 18th feb - 21st feb but I am not getting gypsy for the zone 1-6 it’s all booked on these dates ! So is canter a good alternative option or should I postpone the trip ? Is the route same for canter n gypsy ?
The route for Canter and Gypsy are same. It’s just that Canter is slow and noisy with more guests.
If you are lucky, you can see a tiger on a canter too. If you want to have a unique experience, wait and go for gypsy later.

Unfortunately, premium zones are sold out. But zone 4 and 10 should be good

Canter safari is okay if you dont get gypsy booking but the sighting differs.
Please go for Zone 2,5 or 4.
If possible, do more than 1 safari. For the beauty of RTR, go to Zone 3
