Will never forget my dad telling me how his 996 was loud at highway speeds, sat next to him, he said “ see??” I said, “Dad you’re in 5th gear” “ yeah I know” Dad put it in sixth” “sixth?? There’s a sixth gear??”
THATS FIRE
The 80s/90s 911 is a beautiful timeless design but this one still looks good to me so I don’t get why some people don’t like how it looks
I've warmed up to the styling of these in recent years, but the one thing I still hate is that front bumper treatment with those blobby air openings
It’s the headlights, they aren’t like the original 911, too much like the Boxster.

@@subielife4lifeI think it's cool that you like the headlights on the 996, and you're also not the only one that does, I like these lights too. Honestly, the 996 is my personal favorite 911.

Classic Porsche and almost one now. It looked good back in 2004 and still looks good now. It was on the high end of course, but the power, performance, and collector status can't be denied.
I love classic Porsche
The 996 was truly the last of the analog 911's. My dream car is either a 996 Turbo or GT3. I'll take a Carrera 4S too.
I bad the pleasure of driving one of these about 7 years ago and it was phenomenal. One of the best cars Ive ever driven.
Crazy seeing old reviews and hearing them harp on the automatic variant being sluggish, when fast forward 20 yrs to today's lightning fast DDCTs (and even conventional torque converter autos) and the tables have turned compared to the dying manual.
Porsche purists call this "the fried egg headlights edition"

These had a 5 speed auto iirc from Mercedes.
Very smooth transmission but the gear ratios favour engines with lots of low end torque that are typical with V8s. That's what most 4/5 speed autos are. Then it became snappy quick in the 997 gen Turbo with the PDK. That was in another dimension of fast.

That’s the less loved Porsche because of it’s controversial headlights! Everyone cringed when those came out! Then they figured it out that Porsche enthusiast’s didn’t like them, so they went back to round headlights again. Glad they did!

Definetally bad, but not THAT bad though, especially when it's a 911 Turbo, which I'm a sucker for.
they look worse than the earlier ones imo
....until you drive one! Then everything else is forgiven!

Weird to hear a 911 with a lazy shifting transmission. Prior 2009 997s is a manual only acquisition only, the opposite if you really must. After that year you'll get all the benefits of the PDK.
With all the superior engineering, it's curious why Porsche designed an engine with a sealed crankshaft bearing.

Interior design was so ugly, wish they aged better
Remember, a lot of interiors in the 2000s weren’t the best looking on many cars in general. My 986 boxster has virtually the same interior as the 996 911s so I get your point but comparing this to the 993s I think it’s a great upgrade.

The 996 is so ugly ,I remember back in 1999 thinking how can this replace the handsome 993.
I prefer the 996, the 993 was just not that pretty to me, especially compared to the 901 and 930.
