    It all depends on how you look at CrossFit. If you look at it as entertainment, it's agreeable that the popularity is declining. However, if you look at it as functional fitness, people are still utilizing the foundation of Crossfit to keep themselves in shape.

    • @dougsheldon7417
      @dougsheldon7417 Před 10 měsíci +2

      This 100%. I started CrossFit about 6 years ago and hardly anybody in my circle followed it or went to a box. I left the sport for a bit and came back this year and now so many more people I know are doing CrossFit. However, as you said the entertainment side of CrossFit certainly seems to be dying.

    • @alfiearmstrong
      @alfiearmstrong Před 2 měsíci

      CrossFit does not have a monopoly on ‘functional fitness’ though. CrossFit is a private company and objectively it is in decline.
      People are definitely moving towards more ‘functional’ styles of training rather than the older bodybuilding styles, but again, that does not mean that ‘CrossFit’ is not in decline.

    So… the question that Vloggers need to be reflecting on is:
    Are you trying to be a ‘CZcamsr’ for the sake of it and bouncing around until you find something that hits or do you have a genuine interest in a sport, pastime, hobby that you’re passionate about and that spills into ‘content’. The audience can tell somethings off when it’s not true passion.

    CrossFit is boring now. Katrin/Sara/Bailey/Briggs/Mat were young adults from different sports backgrounds with different strengths and weaknesses and personalities. The leaders today have no personality, the youngest ones were raised in a CF box; it’s all they know. They have generic CF media presences, generic CF experiences, etc. Where’s the bobbling sunglasses of Bailey when he ran the sprint? Where’s the Mat “what can’t he do?” The closest we have is still from the previous generation.. Annie hitting the snatch months after giving birth, Dani and the sandbags.

    • @tuckertech
      @tuckertech Před 10 měsíci +3

      All the stars growing up IN CF box DOES make them boring. I didn’t think of that. The background stories all seem the same.

    CrossFit went from one of the most relatable and interesting sport to essentially the opposite of that. Crossover double unders, guys like mat Fraser dunking on affiliates on the biggest podcast in the world, Glassman getting canned. It’s just never going to be th same.

    Personal opinion here, but I think the CrossFit media world is more spread out now as training camps and individual athletes have jumped on the CZcams game. It makes sense to me that people would be more interested in following an athlete they admire than a content creator talking about an athlete they admire, the games or certain competition overviews being an exception.
    In my own experience I used to be a big Craig Richie viewer, but when he began focusing on weightlifting my viewership dropped off, because that wasn't the content I was interested in. His and his partner's crossfit training and experience were what I was most interested in, more so than the news shows. I wonder if other people had similar reactions and if that impacted his Games views because his audience has just changed?

    • @royrosado3171
      @royrosado3171 Před 10 měsíci

      @Nate this! Content creators should be helping and dual working with athletes and camps, Rogan does it- helps other people create content and it gets dropped on 2 channels. There needs to be more creativity- that’s why buttery bros reign supreme. “The news” is cool, but what’s the convo that’s not being had with athletes? Drama, insight, relationships, what do they get on their hotdog, watching them learn golf, go kart race a bunch of strongman. What would make a date interesting- good or bad

    Seems most CrossFit CZcamsrs I watched regularly when I got into the sport have moved away from CrossFit...
    Arman Hammer - gone.
    Nate Edwardson - gone.
    Craig Richey - switched to weightlifting.
    Buttery Bros - switched to fitness influencing.
    Lean Machines - switched to Jiu Jitsu and ultra running.

    CrossFit cannibalized itself. It went after its founder. Many boxes dropped the CrossFit name and it destroyed their own brand. Very straight forward.

    One thing to note was many of the big names weren't on the competition floor. could basically put an asterisk on the womens comp with Tia, Mal and Haley Adams not competeting. And even then the mens side. who is your headline name on the men's side. Justin, who no doudt is good. But good thru consistency, which doesn't translate the same as stomping on the field like Roman was doing. Who still feels unknown

    Crossfit makes it hard to watch. It’s so long in between events and there isn’t any hype leading into the games. But the judges not being consistent is horrible! I guarantee CrossFit gym owners would love to judge if they got room and travel covered.

    Replying to around the 6:31 mark. Macroeconomics 101. Supply & demand. Flood the market with the supply of a good. Demand goes down. Choke the supply, the demand goes up. By outsourcing media to you guys the space was flooded with it and largely (no offense) things that were slightly repetitive and done already. I mean, we can only have so many "days in the life of ________" before were like, yeah ok, we've seen this before. Part of what made the CF media so appealing to me at least was the completely unique access that it gave. We got a window into things we could never imagine and never see before - day in the life, behind the scenes, cinematic documentaries with footage ONLY the CF internal media team could provide. There was also strategy behind it. Wait 6 months and release it just before the open to get everyone hyped to compete. Now, buttery bros released the their stuff literally the week after the games. I'm still trying to catch up from the games and there's now 2 hours more of content I need to watch, I never watched it because there was so much other stuff happening. I'd be curious to see allllll of the date compiled from you and Craig and Sevan and Buttery and whoever else was there with a media pass and see the overall numbers compiled as if it was one unit versus CF controlled media in years past. I'm not sure that's a fair metric but it's something to be considered. There's an inflationary aspect to outsourcing media that I don't think people are really looking at.

    I don't think Crossfit is dying, but it has definitely changed since Greg Glassman sold the business, whether you loved him or hated him he was Crossfit! He was the character you need to grow sport. He was controversial but passionate about health and fitness.

    • @markpalacios6137
      @markpalacios6137 Před 10 měsíci +2

      Greg is the one who fired the media team, HE is the reason for the start of the decline. It’s actually beneficial that he as left. CrossFit is and WILL always be bigger than one person

      @rhondamcgrath3905 Před 10 měsíci

       @markpalacios6137 I think there is plenty of proof Greg leaving has not benefited the sport. That is why we are having the conversation "is crossfit dying?" No Glassman, no Crossft.

    The truth is everyone is in for the money. Every creator just complains.....the top athletes complain.... and what does Glassman do, he talks about science and health.
    I do CrossFit, I play Golf once,twice a week. No matter what happens in my life I do the CrossFit WODs in my box 3 times a week. nothing more, nothing less. No you dont need HWPO, PRVN or even Mayhem. You need to show up consistently, you need to eat healthy.
    I am through and through a FRONING guy, that guy is a L1, has a own affiliate and when he worked out there was ZERO money in the sport, he just worked out freaking hard and did unbelievable things for our community.

    Unfortunately for many including myself people going to a CrossFit style of training for the first time is way to overwhelming, there's a lot of coaches that act as if CrossFit is the only form of valid training, and me being certified in sports science with a background of boxing, hypertrophy and powerlifting, my form and technique is on point especially with over 20 years of training, and in my experience CrossFit coaches will impose an " I'm better than you and know more" because they are a CrossFit coach, without even training with me telling me that they "can teach me a thing or two about weight lifting" just because I said I was coming out of a calisthenics meso cycle, and then the coaches teach kipping more than proper form and technique, if someone is especially a beginner they should be taught proper form and technique of the basics before being taught to kip just to be able to do a pull up for example, but CrossFit done right and taught by a true coach is great, I do a 2-4 month meso cycle of CrossFit based training a year because i don't like doing the same type of training unless I'm in a prep to compete in something like right now I'm in a prep to compete in men's physique bodybuilding, but after I will change over to either a functional CrossFit type training or a calisthenics based training to allow my body to rest from excessive hypertrophy, anyway this is my point of view from being a professional in the fitness industry, oh and also in my experience Ive been made to feel less than human by CrossFit coaches because I told them I'm an amateur bodybuilder because I do and I quote "useless movements" such as dumbbell side lateral raises for delt activation, I was actually called an idiot for doing such exercises, I got a list but that's just one example

    Chasing carrots. If golf is feeding your channel, that’s great. But, don’t say CrossFit is dying. Change doesn’t necessarily mean it’s dying or there is a decline in interest. Everything changes and ebbs and flows. Golf is great, but call it like it is. You’re chasing a carrot that supports you and that is absolutely fine. Just do that! I did enjoy the CrossFit content that you put out, though.

    You are looking healthier than you did in your CF days! I do wonder what CF HQ is for. They have a business and a sport that they seem to have very little interest in and the promotion of it is left largely to others. I do wonder if the CF brand has run its course and as you cannot patent a muscle-up is there room for CF 2.0. I hope not but they need to get their act together.

    I don't see Zack Telander quitting weightlifting because of the poor audience the sport has. Granted he is leaning a little bit towards Crossfit recently, but he stayed practicing weightlifting has his core sport.
    I do Crossfit as well, and being honest, if I have watched a Crossfit games stream entirely for two times, it would be a stretch. I rather focus on myself and how much progress on my skills and health I'm doing.

    Too many useless gymnastics movements. Too many ridiculous exercises. Cross fitters have no business racing mountain bikes. One year I watched a 50 meter swim into ski erg wtf? Who puts a ski erg pool side.
    They went away from what people loved to watch and WODS people want to do. Oh and everyone at the games are on gear.
