  • Colleena Shakti has been working closely with a Kalbelia tribe in Rajasthan since 2001, documenting, developing and promoting their dance traditions. Over the decades she has seen the younger generations come up as promising young artists and witnessed a creative tradition continue to evolve. This film is a glimpse into the timeless beauty of Kalbeliya culture, and what the future generations have to offer us if we continue to support Rajasthan's incredible cultural heritage.

Colleen Shakti is my freaking idol, man. I am learning bellydance but have also wanted to learn indian dances as well. In fact I've always had an extreme interest in india from a young age and especially the rajisthani gypsies but really all of india as a whole and had the same idea of one day learning and incorporating indian into a tribal indian fusion bellydance style. So when I came across Colleen, she was the living embodiment of the exact thing I wanted to do. It would be a lifetime goal of mine to learn from her. I've been wanting to go to one of her dance retreat workshop things. Perhaps one day I would be able to afford that. Colleen, keep making beautiful dance and keep smiling. The world needs more people like you! Namaste!

@Stephanie Ellison Rajasthan used to be part of Ancient Punjab, so technically they are my relatives, my grandpa is HImalayan HINDU Punjabi NOT sikh, sikhs and muslims are from thee youngest civilizations, the ancient Hindu Punjabis are older than egypt, canda and bollywood and khalistani sikhs tried assassinating me several times for saying this and the hindi media is still trying to silence me, the natives in canada, also constantly attacked me and hated me and told me to leave their country canada, so I did....I left and moved to India as a refugee. Americans show me love though, ironically mexicans hate me, always did, and they showes the colonial persians mughals muslims arabs more support than me.........the persians mughals muslims arab british are colonials in my country that invaded and did all the bad shit.....vegetarianism means nothing, the mindset means everything! Plants and fruits are living organisms that breathe and drink H2O........but I don't judge based on diet, nor do the REAL Himalaya Gurus, the mindset is the key thing, as Hinduism has Chakra in the brain. Hindu Punjabis are in danger since the country and bollywood and khalistani sikhs want to perform genocide on us

Impeccable performance. Elated to see people from abroad recognise and appreciate the genuinely deserving performing arts like this one. Coleena is indeed already an icon among us folks. She has learnt it well and to say that she is better than the indigenous ones would not at all be an exaggeration. The song in the background is as pleasant as the dance itself though it has been merged and imposed subsequently but still. Can someone please tell who the singer is and where can I get more of his songs.

One reason this can get a thumbs down is b/c it is so overwhelming focused on the one who is learning their dance traditions and NOT focused on those who actually own the traditions. I would have much preferred to see them dance. Shakti maybe if she performed second or third but this is all about her. Don't make me use the "E" word. I give her the benefit of the doubt.
